Maharg67
When I feel angry, upset, more and more I do the following: write my post off-line, often just on notepad on desktop wait hopefully cool down heavily edit the post, making it more diplomatically friendly post the post this can also be done on line but be careful not to accidentally post the unedited post
mizdarby
Sound suggestion.I probably do edit my posts a tad, not so much as being diplomatically friendly, in the sense that if I take a differing point of view, then I will express my differing point as succinctly as I can, but making sure the post is not overly hostile and certainly never a direct personal attack. Debates thrive on a range of views, else they would be just called agreements, but 'flaming' is neither helpful to a debate, not pleasant to the individual. imperistan
Personally, I think the staff is just so slightly overreacting to things here. Let people flame each other. Keep it in one forum (I'm actually rather surprised that it hasn't become a standard yet for each forum to have a specific area for members to just openly flame each other. The forums I've seen that have this tend to have a lot less problems with trolling, flaming, etc than forums that don't) and let people go at it. As for debates, just close the topic if it degrades. Don't get all fussed over dishing out punishment or correcting people or whatever. Just close and be done with it. From what I"ve seen no one really learns from being punished on an internet forum so it would be better (and a lot less stressful) to just close topics if they degrade and leave it at that. Don't smack the kid for eating candy, just take his candy away whenever he get his hands on it.
Vindekarr
I always try my utmost to stay not just within forum rules, but to stay civil aswell. If I'm steaming from the ears, I just don't post, period.
Deleted472477User
I have left discussions both those I started and those started by others when I have started to feel too stressed out. I figure people might think I'm a coward or something for doing so, but I'd rather that than a mod call me banned :D

Well said indeed! This is exactly what I tell people who I deal with on a professional basis in consultancy in human resources/staff issues in the corporate world. More trouble has been caused by instantly reacting and banging off an angry, sometimes nasty & vindictive, response to a post which disagree's with your own point of view. It's better to write it out offline, get your emotions out of your system. Cool off and carefully rethink your response and damn well edit out anything that is insulting, inflammatory or aggressive as going off half-cocked leads to all sorts of woe. I whole heartedly concur with this set of personal guidelines in dealing with reactions. The best way in which to respond to something that may have irked you which has been posted by another forum user is not to. Simpy put, don't bite back. Also, if you have a problem with another user, send a PM to the admins about it and let them sort it out. Don't react, think first before posting.
