Mojlnir
I got it this weekend and couldn't put it down. Absolutely stunning graphics, an interactive environment, "intelligent" NPC's, and liberal amounts of gore. I have not played the multiplayer version yet, but I was just wondering what other people thought of the game.
Slaiv
I've only played the demo, but I have to say, it's freaking awesome. It comes sort-of close to Half-Life 2 in graphics, A.I., and the physics engine. Like I've said before, though, I don't think anything will be able to top HL2, assuming that it's ever published. suzerain
certainly is a beautiful game, from the demo I've played. like most modern FPS games, though, it leaves me slightly motion-sick, because the movement of the gun barrel while moving about makes me ill. shame, otherwise a very pretty game. Dark0ne
I don't think anything will be able to top HL2 Think you're putting too much faith into the name and not paying enough attention to what the developers are doing. That is..thinking because they've stuck a "2" on the end of Half-Life its going to be great. Fact is half the stuff they claimed Half-Life 2 would be/do have been disproven by the source code leaks which clearly indicate they've been doing jack-all work for the past few years. I wouldn't trust to Half-Life 2 being game of the year (oh, especially not this year). Now, as for Far Cry...good game.
Marxist ßastard
...Be sure you check out next month's PC Gamer... Unless, of course, you think PC Gamer is in bed with Valve in a conspiracy to promote broadband through Steam.

And of course it's not going to be out this year. But that doesn't mean it won't be a good game. But anyway, let's not turn this into a HL2 argument thread, since we have my XNA thread for that. Instead, on-topic: Have you tried the multi-player out yet? I am wondering what it is like. It seems as if it is awesome. Oh, and from what I've played and heard, the game is freaking hard. Peregrine
Back on topic... played the demo, wasn't too impressed. Other than the massive view distance, there wasn't anything that great about it. Especially when I have to turn down all the graphics settings to get a somewhat decent framerate.
loveme4whoiam
Unless, of course, you think PC Gamer is in bed with Valve in a conspiracy to promote broadband through Steam. Filth! Lies and backhander reviews are all that are published in this magazine. All hail PCZone, the first and best pc games mag ever published. *calms himself* BTW: Spolier coming up for anyone who's not played the demo. Sorry about that. Now, on topic: I've played the demo (with all details reduced to zero; i buy a PC, and three months later its out of date :angry2: ) and was stunned. It might just be me, but after i first played the demo through to the end, i reloaded and decided to not trek up hill, but instead drive the little dingh-thing around to where the big boat parks later on. Little skirmish with a few guys down there, but i've missed out the whole indoor section. Yay, methinks, until i reach the end and find out that all the guys i didn't kill are now reinforcements for the heli attacks. Now, i don't know about you, but that goes above and beyond what a normal gaming experience should do. This has been hailed as the first next-gen pc shooter. I say, long live the new millenium. Mojlnir
I've been playing the game on "easy" to get the hang of it and I get obliterated all the time. If you don't grease every NPC in the game as you move through, they show up as reinforcements someplace else, like loveme said. Once, I took a rather long shot at a guy with the M-14 (not so hot for distance) and winged him. Before I could do anything he turned and yelled to some other guys and suddenly there were 8 NPC's (all running crouched, dodging in random patterns and using the trees as cover) coming straight for me. Needless to say I died and didn't try that again. Overwhelming firepower doesn't really work either. They decoy with a couple of guys to draw your fire and then the rest circle around behind you and get you. It's nuts and I love it! Now, the multiplayer is needing some work. The bugs are many, and it pretty much destroys gameplay. Not to mention FPS of around 30 after a couple of minutes. This is not an issue with my card (GeForceFX 5950 Ultra) but something else. Also, you tend to spawn with no weapons. Other times (like after jumping off of something) you can no longer fire (or change) your weapons, crouch/lay prone, pick up weapons or drive vehicles. I downloaded the official patch last night but have not gotten a chance to play multiplayer with the patch yet. I'll let you guys know how it goes. Mojlnir
Patched Far Cry and played online last night...TDM, Conquest, FFA. Fun like I havn't had since playing Duke Nukem years ago on LAN. There are still not many servers up yet (at least ones with low enough ping) because the game is new. Other than that, its tight. The patch fixed the issues that I mentioned above, and the FPS didn't drop off either. I did spawn once with no weapons, but they loaded about 10 seconds later.
