Vortex is (not responding) on startup!

This will leave the deployed files in your data directory, but at least to remove an installed mod so Vortex don't detect it's installed, open up the "mod staging folder" in file explorer and you'll see many sub directories with the name of your installed mods. Find the two directories corresponding to your two mods and cut and paste the two directories to another location on the same disk (hopefully this will keep the hard-links). Alternatively just delete the two directories.

If Vortex now start correctly and if you moved the directories, you can try exiting Vortex, move one of the directories back to original location. If Vortex now start chances are the mod is duplicated on mods tab. If the hard-links survived being moved by file explorer it should hopefully be possible to uninstall the mod and have the deployed files corresponding to mod deleted.

I appreciate the help Rattledagger but unfortunately I need more help as I have no idea where the "Mod Staging folder" is? Is it actually a folder called that cause it didn't come up when I did a search from explorer?

It's here, and it's called the "Mod Staging Folder" in the SETTINGS, but will be called something different on your drive, (for reference when you can finally start Vortex)

Did you install the version of Vortex that allows you to choose where it installs, or did you download the one-click installer?

It's not called "Mod Staging Folder", except under Settings in Vortex. Normally you'll see the location under Vortex Settings - Mods, but since Vortex don't start you can't look it up.

It's the folder you specified the mods should be installed to, at least if your game is not installed under c:

If you didn't specify anything, not sure where the default location for installing mods are, but maybe it's something like

%appdata%\vortex\name_of_game\mods\

At least "mods" should be one of the directories, unless you've specified another directory to put the mod-files in.

Thank you guys!

I ended up starting Vortex in "Fallout 3 mode" and looked up Mod staging folder for "Fallout 4" but it doesn't have either mod I was trying to install, so apparently it got hung up trying to install the mods and never completed installing them. So now I am really confused as what to try next, any other ideas?

I tried uninstalling Vortex today then restarting windows and installing newest version of Vortex but it didn't make any difference and still not responding.

Only way I can get Vortex to work is removing Fallout 4 directory under "BundledPlugins" folder under Vortex folder- resources/app.asar.unpacked/BundledPlugins .

The newest update prevents users from deleting the "Bundled Plugins" folder because you're not supposed to do that

Yeah I never tried to delete the Bundled Plugins folder, I just deleted the Fallout 4 folder inside of the Bundled Plugins folder, I had read somewhere someone had a similar problem and had done this to get Vortex to startup. And when I delete the folder Vortex will start up and run normally but obviously you can't bring up Fallout 4 once its is running so it doesn't do me much good.

So HardToRegister any ideas what else I can try to get my problem resolved with Vortex?
