nexbil01
How long does the fallout era span? I mean obviously from 2077 onwards but how far into the future can it extend? At some point all the wasteland goodness of raiders and deathclaws has to come to an end and someone (probably the NCR or the BoS) comes in to re-establish some sort of law and order across the nation. I think some time in the early 2300s is the end of the fallout era meaning that fallout 4 takes place near the end of this storyline. Any ideas? DoctorKaizeld
2910 is the furthest point in the series so far and 2377 is when the US should become fully inhabitable again. Also currently the NCR is at a pre-WWI state of technology and is actually pretty freakin safe. BoS physically will never be able to rule a country as their population being in the low thousands at best makes their long term existence poor unless they merge with another party. Ceasars Legion is the only other superpower outside of the NCR and should be in the middle of a civil war.
montky
great question!reminds me of the ol' "Fallout Bible" threads, and other lore chats and fanon threads. How long does the fallout era span?it depends on what you consider 'canon'.Quelle canon, FO4 is the furthest we yet see into the future of that, there are a couple of time-travellers and whacky-wastelanders,but 2280s/90s is the furthest into the future yet seen. Some fans believe that, 2077 caused irreparable damage to the biosphere,so at some point, the planet in Fallout will become uninhabitable topside.Hence why the Enclave and those folks at Novac were keen to go elsewhere before that time. Other fans, believe that the endings where the BoS and other 'high-tech folks' manage to turn things around, are 'canonical'. Somewhere in between those points on a spectrum,is where the bulk of Fallout fans view things - a neofeudal 'darkage' for the most part.
nexbil01
reason I ask is to try to figure out where and when a Fallout 5 would take place. Would they continue on after FO4 and expand the timeline forwards or travel back in time like FO76 and do another region of the country after the great war
DoctorKaizeld
Well so far the last thing said on it was the next game will be on the west coast, but honestly that was years ago

Old World blues has an event in 2910
nexbil01
I guess it all depends on what the owners believe is canon and is not.
montky
Old World Blues has an event in 2910Indeed, QwertyZeldar, it does, though some folks do not consider it to be 'canonical',just as some fans don't consider FO4 to be 'canonical',or FOBOS, or FO3 Van Buren, or FOTactics, or FO:Equestria etc. I personally think Ol'WorldBlues is quasi-canonical.there were elements which could be argued to have been "whacky wasteland" enough to doubt the whole thing was 'canonical' hehe. reason I ask is to try to figure out where and when a Fallout 5 would take place.I guess it all depends on what the owners believe is canon and is not.yup, FO5 could talk place any when and hopefully more than just CONUS;so as we see more of the Fallout World.to date, we haven't seen very much outside of CONUS.Maybe they'll go back before 2077 to the 2050s,maybe they'll go way into the future, who knows? It'd be great to see a FO:Tactics RTS entry too -or perhaps a more linear themed factional spinoff
DoctorKaizeld
While people can say what they want it is official canon
nexbil01
The funny thing about official canon is that the current publisher can change it at their whim. The whole BoS airships idea came out of fallout tactics but that's about all they took out of that. They dropped the rest of that game. Of course now that F076 has dropped the idea that the BoS was east of the rockies like 100 years early I guess is now canon too.
