I use heavy Armor.

My equipment is: Steel Plate Armor, Steel Plate Boots, Steel Plate Gauntlets, Iron Helmet, Skyforge Steel Sword(Legendary) and the legendary Auriel's Shield. But sometimes i use only Daedric set with the Auriel's Shield.(my favorite shield)

On my most developed playthrough, depending on what I'm feeling like, what kind of quest I'm on:

Either:

Ebony Mail, Gauntlets and Boots

Mourner's Hat

Dawnbreaker

Mehrune's Razor

Or:

Dragonplate Armour, Gauntlets & Boots

Dragon Priest Mask (usually Krosis IIRC)

2 x Honed Falmer Swords

Or:

Ancient Nord Armour, Gauntlets & Boots

Masque of Clavicus Vile

(one of the above 2 weapon combos)

Light Armor. My characters like to be swift, silent and deadly.

Typically I'll use elven or glass armor enchanted with one-handed fortify and fortify health regenration enchantments as a base.

and then I'll use other pieces of armor just because, they might be from a mod or a DLC.

I use Linwe's Armor Set and when in the thieves Gould there version and then the nightengale when that comes up and as a dawnguard vampire killer the heavy armor brown outfit with the steel shoulder pads, only played the dawnguard vampire side once and may of used the grey vampire outfit for it!..

I'll wear a priest mask occasionally too

Heavy armor is okay if you want to role play a front-line grunt in the infantry. Otherwise, it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense. Of course, there is heavy and massive (I would call Dragonbone and Ebony/Daedric "massive" armor). Massive armor is really only useful for showing off. A real warrior would use heavy armor and light boots, especially if we're talking about realistic mounted combat.

So a bandit can pierce his sword on your foot.

Light armour. Whether or not a game's mechanics accommodate for it, I like my game characters as people who focus on evading and out-speeding their opponent before, or while striking with deadly hits(or one if possible, and not restricted to material weapons, if there are alternatives). Kinda like Glass Canons with speed on top.
