Depends on my character. I gave up trying to do all the quests in one play-through. You get up to insane levels and the game starts getting boring because you're one-shotting everything in sight. I usually decide on one guild faction and the Main Quest and my character will depend on that choice, so I generally retire a character by level 35 or 40.

If I go mage, for instance, I'm likely to not even bother with armor. If I go thief it's light armor all the way, and for aesthetic reasons I prefer leather over all the others until the better thieve's guild armors become available. Similarly, if I go assassin I'll use the shrouded armor, since it's pretty much the best light armor in the game. If I go companion I might play a tank or a sneaky type, so either light armor (leather) or heavy armor (steel, until ebony becomes available).

As for weapons, I'll only use two-handed weapons if I go tank, with steel or Skyforge greatswords being preferred. Otherwise I restrict myself to one-handed weapons and I prefer swords because they have cooler kill-moves. If I'm putting lots of points into Sneak I'll have a dagger for the perk associated with that weapon. My favored sword is the Blades sword.

I've tried dual-wielding, but it seems to be broken for me, so I don't do it anymore. I don't generally use a shield in my off-hand. but prefer to have a combat spell handy.

All my characters, to date, are archers -- even the tanks. I believe in softening up the enemy from a distance before charging into combat. Taking on a fully-manned Forsworn camp with a greatsword and steel armor is foolhardy, at best.

So far only devoted any REAL time into two characters. Both being heavy armor users, one is a 2-handed specialist, using the Tamrielic Lore: Chrysamere mod weapon (that sword is so damned PRETTY! ;; ) a lot of the time, although I've been switching it out for Wraith Scythe from Immersive Weapons, or Lillith's Sickle. Got a little irritated with how reliant I'd gotten on Chrysamere's spell reflection.

The other is a Shield/1-hand user, he's my Paladin-style combat specialist, tends to rely on surviving everything and being able to heal. He was also my first Skyrim character ever, so I've got a few mistakes in his perk trees, need to work on getting through Dragonborn to fix those. <_>;;

I've got a mage, an archer, and a thiefy type all started up, but they've so far all made it to like...Whiterun, lol. Planning on sticking with light armors for the archer and thief, and clothes for the mage, as is appropriate. =D

I tend to choose my armor based on character asthetics. I originally tended to gravitate to the Ebony Mail which is one of my favorite heavy styles. I really like the scaled armor for the earlier game and have used the light imperial armor (perfect legionare mod) for long time.

Later, I downloaded Lustmord's Vampire Armor and I used that set for a number of my female characters. For a while, I have also used a lot Hentai and Nausicaa's armors for my female charaters, because I like looking at cute chicks in skimpy outfits.

I have recently downloaded the Dragon Knight Armor set, which kind of looks like Ebony Armor but made of dragon bone for my current higher level character. I have chosen this set, because I have added Frostfall and Wet and Cold mods to my game, which have definitely made traveling around much more interesting. The Dragon Knight set goes well with the white and gray cloakes in the cold wearther mod. Skimpy armor may look good but it breaks the immersion when using the cold weather mods, so I have not been using it after installing Frostfall and Wet and Cold.

I tend to use whatever I feel looks good on my character, since I like the 3rd person view for traveling around Skyrim. I am sure I will find another neat looking armor set and just have to try it out but for now I am going for the cold weather protection over cool looking skimpy sets. One of the things that I love about the TES games is the huge number of clothing and armor mods that the fan community create and share.

Just my rambling $0.02,

Mike

Daedric is where it's at. Though I did use Steel Plate for the longest time. Enjoyed my time with Ebony, too, but once I got a hold of that Daedric, oh boy...

I like the look of some light armors, but I've always been a fan of the heavier stuff.
