darkofan
ok... it's obvious that the animations for the crossbow, now in Skyrim, are perfect for rifles. But for some reason everyone is against the idea. They say it's un-lorish or that it would ruin the game, or "it's Skyrim not fable." Personally fable 2 is my favorite fable, and having musket rifles would also just make the game way more fun for someone who doesn't like using magic (me). And now for the fools who say that it's "not lore friendly" D'X or that it doesn't fit in with the medieval style of the game... you're wrong. If you take a look at 90% of all the architecture in the game (not including ruins) you'll find that it's way more renaissance style than it is medieval WAY MORE! so to me it's un-lorish to be walking around in a full suit of extremely decorated and unrealistic looking armor with an unrealistically giant battle-axe on my back through a town that's more fitting to Shakespeare. It would look and feel so much better if everyone was wearing tricorner hats carrying sabers rapiers muskets and flintlock pistols. And if you think flintlocks are taking it too far then make it a matchlock, whatever. And you don't have to have the whole "stuffing the ball down the barrel" animation the crossbow one is just fine. And imagine if the imperials were dressed as british redcoats and the the stormcloaks were dressed as the americans of the revolutionary war. Now don't say "oh just get assassin's creed three" or something like that I will get that game but it won't hold my interest as long as an elder scrolls game and the level of detail won't be nearly as great. And that's another thing, the forks and plates and knives in skyrim along with the abundance of books and other writings are not medieval at all they are purly renaissance not to mention almost all the clothing... And I don't want to hear people saying that "it's a fantasy game it doesn't have to be realistic" I know that idc I want it to be realistic! and yes I know Shakespeare was around long before the american revolution ok don't make comments about that. Someone please just make a musket using the crossbow animations and as a bonus maybe add some clothes and armour from relative time periods and maybe replace the guard, imperial, and stormcloak armor's, thankyou! ps: the dawngaurd armour is pretty renaissance looking without the helmet, if someone could just make a red and a blue version, of the dawnguard armour WITH SLEEVES and FULL TUNIC, (u know whuch one I'm talking about) and then replace the stormcloak , and imperial armour's with those it would be close enough. Or a retex of the college robes would work. (the ones that are open in front) thanks so much. Please please if u have the models and the skills, make this mod I will be so thankful... video of matchlock musket http://youtu.be/2KTS8PQ06Qo video of flintlock musket http://youtu.be/Ho-QCmnNMl8 If someone could not only make the rifles but also the armour/clothing shown in the videos that would be amazing, THANKS! David Brasher
The Creation Kit is a tool for placing existing resources and editing their stats and scripts. If you want to make muskets and clothes, you will need tools like Blender or 3DMax and NifSkope and GIMP or Photoshop. Once you have created the resources, then you put them into the game with the Creation Kit.
rapcoa
IMO, people who say things such as guns do not fit in Skyrim are ignorant. So you people people know guns have been around since the 1100's. The technology around the time was very similar to what you would find in Skyrim. So take that!!

Rennn
What people mean when they say "lore-unfriendly" or "unfitting" is that they don't fit TES lore. The timelines match up, but the lore doesn't. For example: glass swords. lol. I'm not saying this is a bad idea, I'm just saying that people saying it doesn't fit aren't simply talking about a medieval timeline. It's your request ofc, I'm not trying to detract, I'm just explaining their position. Edited August 17, 2012 by Rennn

Everything else about the game is either fantasy or renaissance. The trade system, the architecture, the clothing, the standard of living, almost all the misc items, the amount of books, and the governmental organization(s) are all renaissance. It makes no sense when people say muskets wouldn't fit, they would fit better than anything else in the game!
bben46
Lore is what you make it. Bethesda has changed the 'lore' for each game in the series to fit how they wanted the game to work. There is no rule that says you cant make a mod to put guns in Skyrim. Or anything else you want to. This is a fantasy game and just because it doesn't fit some people's idea of fantasy doesn't make it wrong. I think I could put a science fiction blaster in Skyrim and make it fit the 'lore' It just depends on how you present it in game. Here's how: Buried in a collapsed room deep under a Dewmer ruin is a secret research facility where one of the greatest Dwemer scientists of the time was trying to develop a new kind of weapon that combined the Dwemer physical sciences with the power of magic. He had one copy made when his work was interrupted by his untimely death. His strange device, along with the notes, found with it and translated by a mage at the college tell how the cumbersome device is loaded, recharged and used. It sends out a great gout of magical energy that just causes anything in its path to explode in a great ball of energy that causes damage to anything or anyone nearby as well as completely destroying the target. It seems to somehow combine the separate magics of shock, fire and frost into one coherent beam of pure energy that nothing can resist. Now, If I can make a SF Blaster fit the 'Lore' I'm sure you can make a musket fit. :thumbsup:BTW, I am not making a blaster. and that idea, along with the 'lore' behind it is free for anyone else who wants to do it. rapcoa
Alright in that case, I take back what I said. But I'll put my 5 cents in, the addition of muskets really would make the gameplay more interesting. Imagine if every single guard had a gun, and you (the player) only had armor, a sword, and a shield. Can you imagine how much harder the game would be than? :
