Turn NMM back on?

People are acting really arrogantly about Vortex. They also keep saying just use NMM, as of a day or two ago, NMM basically just stopped refusing to take in downloads from the Nexus server. I've been a member of this site for a long time, albeit quietly, and have been having my own issues with Vortex. Seems no matter what I try to play now, Fallout 4, Skyrim, Dragons Dogma, it just simply doesn't work. This, amazing program that talks to me, doesn't say it has any issues, or conflicts, says everything is fine, games won't load, they just crash.

Has this place always been so useless and toxic when people are clearly having issues? Grow up people.

Why don't you take a look at the very first post?

THAT is the toxic stuff in here.

The toxic people are the ones who have to jump in every Vortex thread, offering nothing more than "Vortex sucks"

So, to the people who refuse to even bother learning Vortex and just want to constantly complain about it, we tell them to stick with NMM, which by the way, the newest version is on github.

So, instead of asking for help, you decided it was a better idea to toss out an insult at everybody instead. good job.

Nobody is acting arrogant about Vortex, we're just really tired of having to type the same explanations out to the ignorant people who just come in here to bash Vortex without ever having learned it and refuse to spend any time learning it.

I've seen people make lists of "Why Vortex sucks", and the entire list mentions things they think should be in Vortex, and it turns out everything they listed has been in Vortex for months, which just shows everybvody they don't even know what they're talking about, and are just on the Vortex hate bandwagon.

People seem to believe this myth that NMM is the Alpha & Omega of Mod Managers because "It was easy to use"

Well, that's because NMM didn't DO anything.

OK, so forgive my tone as I've gotten pretty agitated at this point in the process. I'm sure Vortex is amazing and can do all the things, but holy s*** its not very intuitive to novice modders.

I installed Vortex, moved over all my mods, deleted them from NMM, purged it, then uninstalled NMM. Tried loading my game, wouldnt detect any of my mods, told me SKSE wasnt working properly and neither would SkyUI. Mind you, the day NMM got shut off my SkyUI wouldnt work either which is the only reason I switched to Vortex. So I did some more digging, found that maybe the default installation folders for staging and downloads werent in the same place as my game files so that might be what happened (one thing I liked about NMM is it put things in the right place so I just started my game and it would work). So I do some youtubing, find I need to change the folders. So I change the staging folder to C:\Program Files (x86)\Vortex\SkyrimDownloads for downloads and C:\Program Files (x86)\Vortex\SkyrimSE for staging so that my game files and these files are all on the C drive. Still doesnt work.

I'm just saying, for how "amazing" this system is supposed to be, its not very intuitive. I'd just like to keep playing the game I was play 4 days ago without all this run-around. \

EDIT: I've already deployed and enabled them and still nothing

2nd EDIT: While I have many mods enabled, there are almost no plugins listed aside from SkyUI and anorTNF. What did I miss?

1. If you want to continue using NMM just like before, simply update to the community-maintained version and everything will be working the way you are used to: https://www.nexusmods.com/site/mods/4?tab=files

2. No one is being forced to use Vortex if they don't want to. In fact, we have been very clear about our recommendation to stay with whatever mod manager you are using, or whatever system you have for installing mods (manually etc.), if you have a perfectly working setup. We recommend users to use Vortex if they are reinstalling their mods e.g. on a new computer, if they want to try something new, or if their current setup is not working out for them.

3. If you are still using NMM but (for whatever reason) don't want to update to the newest, community-maintained version, then you will still be able to use it to install mods by dragging and dropping the archives into NMM. Only the download with manager button won't work any more. However, since this can easily be solved by you updating to the available community version, we don't think this is inconveniencing users in an unreasonable fashion.

4. @SmartassCross We have modding guides that walk newcomers through the process: https://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/Modding_Skyrim_Special_Edition_with_Vortex

You might already be more experienced, but please try to approach Vortex with an open mind. Your frustrations seem to mostly stem from misunderstandings regarding Vortex. For example: it is just the staging folder that needs to be on the same partition as Skyrim SE.

We're happy to try and work out issues you have with Vortex, but we require more specific information, as is pointed out in this thread on how to properly ask for support: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/7332636-how-to-post-request-support-for-vortex/

Sorry but wtf is Nexus switching to this vortex garbage? There was literally nothing wrong with NMM. And now I can't do anything with NMM. This is incredibly frustrating.

And people call US "toxic"

Your question was answered in the other thread you started, how many threads are you going to jump in and say Vortex is Garbage?

@Spencerbilodeau

Sorry but wtf is Nexus switching to this vortex garbage?

Nexusmods stopped supporting NMM over two years ago and introduced the beta version of Vortex at least six months ago. All of this and the reasons for this have been talked about widely in Nexusmods for at least two years.

There was literally nothing wrong with NMM.

I switched to Vortex alpha over a year ago because there was "literally" a lot wrong with NMM.

And now I can't do anything with NMM.

You can upgrade it. Did you miss that information and the NMM link in the Nexusmods news announcement?

Finally, this is the Vortex Support Forum. Are you asking for help with something? Or do you just want to complain like you did in your previous thread that was closed by the Moderator?
