Please provide more information using the guidelines found here: How to Request Vortex Support.

 

Bethesda released Fallout 4 update 1.10.137 today. If you're using F4SE, that's may be your problem.

Same thing happens with Skyrim, so it cannot be the Fallout 4 update.

In my case everything worked fine before the Vortex update. After 0.18.9 update I can no longer launch Skyrim, SKSE, F4SE directly from within Vortex. I can start them fine outside Vortex.

Skyrim SE updated today. Which Skyrim are you running? Skyrim SE or Skyrim LE? If the former, are you using SKSE64? If you're using script extenders for both games, then neither will launch until the script extenders have been updated.

 

If none of this applies to you, then please provide the additional detail that I requested earlier.

I am using the LE version of Skyrim. I can start it just fine from outside Vortex. What other info do you need?

Both Skyrim SE and Fallout 4 have CC updates released. Part of the "E3 Experience".

Do yourselves a favor and lock down those games so they don't update until sensitive mods - like SKSE and F4SE - are updated.

Make a backup copy of your executable also.

This is unrelated to your LE problem.

People need to install

Skyrim.exe Auto Backup

and

 

Fallout4.exe Auto Backup

Then they'll have the most recent exes safely backed up in a folder, when the mod detects the game is updating.
That way they can rename the new exe to something else, and copy the backed up exe and resume playing with the previous exe and SKSE64 or F4SE and mods as before until the Script Extenders and mods get updated.

However, launching Vortex with administrator privileges (and ignoring the warning message) allows me to start Skyrim SE out of Vortex again. I noticed that there was also a Windows 10 update today - maybe that has something to do with it.

This was a good observation. This is the sort of thing I would expect a Windows Update to break. Worth looking at anyway.

For security, don't you know. Can't have one app launching another.

If you want to avoid running Vortex as administrator in order to launch a game, then exit Vortex after setting up your mods and launch from the game itself. The game will launch and run with the mod configuration you've set up with Vortex.
