wdrewjr
Hi. I hope this is the right area. I'm trying to install the new Vortex MM so I can get back to playing, but I'm having trouble. After install and scan for installed games, it gave me Download Folder and Mod Staging Folder locations that don't match up with where I have the games load. My system has only 1 drive (an SSD). Here is the location of my games: Location of GamesC:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ I also don't know for sure what symbols to use to make each mod divert to the proper game file. For those wondering, yes, I have read the install instructions and watched the videos. I just really benefited from NMM doing all of this for me. I have read that Vortex is supposed to be better though, so I want to give it a chance. Please help ASAP, and thank you for your time and patience. TheGreatFalro
The Mod Staging Folder should not be where your game is, though it can be almost anywhere else as long as it's on the same drive. Leave it at the default setting if you're unsure. The Download Folder can be anywhere, but I wouldn't recommend putting it in the game folder either. rmm200
Let me put that a bit stronger. Don't put anything in the Game folder, including Vortex Downloads. My personal preference in your case would be C:/Vortex/Downloads and C:/Vortex/Mods.Vortex will create a subdirectory for each specific game, like C:/Vortex/Mods/skyrim.Good job watching a tutorial video. Most of the folks who get in trouble don't bother. It does make your life easier.
wdrewjr
Thank you so much for getting back to me. I created both folders, and everything seems OK except for the Hardlink Deployment is now grayed out. If I understand this, that means the game can't use mods now, because it can't find them. HELP! The MOD STAGING folder needs to be on the same drive as the game Did you move the folders by using Vortex, or did you move them manually outside of Vortex? rmm200
For whatever reason - Vortex thinks the drive you have selected for Mods is not the same drive as your game is on.Go to Settings / Mods and click on the little folder in the Mod Staging Folder window.Navigate to the folder you created - and select it. Then click Apply. If it still fails, try to get a screenshot of this page and post it.Downloads is not an issue; only Mods has to be on same disk as game. wdrewjr
Hi again. And thanks again for the help. Here is what I have done, in order. 1. I downloaded my games from Steam, which put them in this directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The folder after "common" contains a folder for each game. 2. Following the directions that I was given above I created the following folders:for downloads, I created C:\Vortex\Downloads and for mods I created C:\Vortex\Mods After creating each one I clicked on the "Apply" button, and both were accepted. Everything is on the C:\ drive, because it's the only drive I have. This is everything I did. Could someone please let me know where I messed up? Thank you again for your time and your help. wdrewjr
I just noticed that the folder for mods that I created now changes from C:\Vortex\Mods to C:\Users\Wes\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\skyrimse\mods when I switched to manage Skyrim SE
rmm200
Even that folder should be fine. I don't like it because Mods can get huge - and sticking it in Appdata hides it and makes it hard to manage.Still like a screenshot of Settings / Mods if you can manage it. Somehow the Mods folder you selected is not sticking. Another thought. If you tell Vortex to use C:/Vortex/Mods - you have to create the folder C:/Vortex/mods first.
