New Oblivion Realms

I am interested in advice, ideas, and suggestions for content people might like to see in an oblivion realm. I am trying to keep it to vanilla resources. Or at most, slightly modified vanilla resources I can include with the mod.

Lets try to keep the responses reasonable. This is my first world space mod, and I am still learning a lot.

Some people don't like the Oblivion realms, but I do. Dangerous puzzle gardens with larva seas nobody wants to paddle in with added pyrotechnics. The problem always was the lack of variety so after a while it got to being, Ok this is No.4, - I go this way, and then over there, dodge that, kill this & etc.

I always liked the narrow bridges and especially the ones where some sequence of levers in different places had to be operated to make them slide into position. One of the realms in particular seemed to be in a worse state of disarray than the others with everything either having collapsed into the larva sea or about to so there was a lot more having to find another way around and in some places the way through was across narrow bands of ground that were very close to being swallowed up. Care had to be taken not to fall in so that being ambushed by enemies at critical points was always a concern. I tend to play light armour specialists with good athletic and acrobatic skills so dodging, jumping and climbing was never a problem for them. (Most probably because I spent too much time playing the original classic Tomb Raider games before discovering Morrowind and then Oblivion).

The most important thing I feel is having to make the player do some thinking instead of just barging through like a tank.

I'm with RatTech on the mindless repetitive nature of most Oblivion worlds.

What I'd like to see is more than one way to get to the objective (so you could either find the correct levers to pull or find a hidden cave system for example).

Well the last 2 posts are encouraging :) I think we're right on par here, and I thank you for the input. I am mostly trying to make things interesting and rewarding. I want it challenging, but not overly so. Immersive, so its at least lore related. And aesthetically inspired, because boring is just... well boring. I am also constantly keeping in mind the fact that these realms will be trodden through multiple times. So there needs to be a balance there. Too little is to easy, to much, too tedious. I try to avoid set paths or specific 'have to do's' because it takes away the feeling of exploration. It's going well though, and I can barely wait to release the beta of the first realm. A few more days maybe...

I have run into a bit of a snag. I want to adjust a beth mesh out of the BSA. "Ok Rev, that's easy." you say. Sure unless the mesh in question won't open in nifskope. I have never got blender to work so nifskope is my way.

The mesh in question is;

ruinedpathwayshort01.nif

Any chance of some modeler doing me a solid? I am obviously asking for a fix here..

I seriously need this piece...

Edit;

Got it sorted out. It seems BSA Unpacker has it's limitations. It was extracting the mesh incorrectly.

Since I created a mod called Oblivion addiction I think you know my opinion about the Oblivion wastelands.

I'm not exigeant, as long as I have some heavy fights with Demon bane, it's OK.

I hadn't seen that mod before. Seems cool, good idea too. Don't worry, there will be plenty of combat. I'm only using guaranteed spawn LL's.

You mean if I set place item in oblivion and it gets picked up, it won't respawn? I only recently realized there are no placed items in oblivion. I figured this was why.

Exactly, if you want an item placed as is to reappear you need to give it a parent element the player can't disable while playing, like a X-marker.
