Absolutely no mod needs to load last.

Except the times when they actually do...

My plugin list is a good example.

It contains several plugins that conflict with each other, but I have a compatibility fix plugin that absolutely needs to load after the other conflicting plugins to fix them.

That's exactly the point Tannin is making. These plugins need to go after the other conflicting plugins, not last in your load order! It's always relative to other plugins and never an absolute "this mod needs to be dead last in the plugin load order".

Mod authors tell you their mods should load last because it's a simplification of the instructions for people manually organising their load order. LOOT, however, will know about your patch plugin needing to load after the other plugins (i.e. "last" only relative to them), so there is no need to put the plugin dead last in the load order manually.

process. Then you'd have the automatic sorting, with an easy method of adjusting it.

And if a user screws it up while manually adjusting it, that's their own fault and only hurts themselves.

And the first thing they do is run in here and blame EVERYTHING on Vortex when 90% of the problems reported have been mainly PEBCAK

Also, if you want something at the bottom of the load order, it's just as easy to Assign it to the Dynamic Patches group, and there it is, automatically at the bottom of your load order, and if you have several plugins assigned to Dynamic Patches and Mod B needs to LOAD AFTER Mod A, then just make a rule, or just DRAG AND DROP Mod B below Mod A, and accept the rule.

The "Manual Load Order Sorting" argument is getting tiresome, I know, I used to be the one starting all the "We need manual load order sorting" threads, until I learned how to use Vortex, and realized how unnecessary it is.

Out of 279 mods I have installed for Fallout 4 I have EIGHT manually Sorted with rules, there's no need to manually order 279 plugins.

You only need to be able to set rules for a handful at best.

All of this misinformation comes from Reddit and Modder "Guides" that insist that your load order be exactly like theirs.

I don't know why you're so aggressive with all your posts, but it certainly doesn't help.

So you have 8 plugins that are manually sorted, or 1/34 of your plugins. That's exactly the point of wanting manual sorting, usually there's just one mod you need to move, which is when basic manual sorting comes in handy. Creating sorting rules is useful to keep things organized as a whole, and is a great way to create a "standard" due to known compatibility priorities, and to make sure the load order is similar between users.

Either way, I've done everything people have been suggesting, and Vortex doesn't change the load order at all anymore.

If you saw my previous post, you should have seen that my "late loader" group came after "Dynamic Patches". Putting the plugin in the "Dynamic Patches" group does nothing, the plugin stays at index 14 out of 27.

Just now I also tried dragged the "dependencies" icon to set up a "must load after" rule, but that didn't change my load order either.

I thought maybe Vortex doesn't have the privileges to sort the files, so I tried launching it in administrator mode, but a message popped up saying "don't launch this in administrator mode" and prompted me to close the software, so I did.

So.. Something isn't right.

Also.. @HadToRegister idk why you think "all misinformation comes from XX...". Like, no. I've never read a "modder guide" on some website. I'm just noticing when mods don't work after loading the game, and realizing they're in the wrong load order.

Earlier you also said all complaints of vortex comes from people switching over from NMM. But I've only used NMM once or twice, usually I manually install mods in the Data folder because I have such a small amount. My thoughts on Vortex are just from using Vortex.

My apologies, didn't know what's what he meant, but I agree.

If you saw my recent screenshots, the patch isn't automatically placed after the other plugins, but at this point I'm beginning to suspect something is preventing the software from sorting things at all, since any attempts at telling vortex to load it later hasn't changed anything.

After you set the rule for the plugin to LOAD after the other Plugin, did you hit SORT?

Also, do you have any plugins INDEX LOCKED?

Yeah, I click sort after every change I make. (earlier it slightly altered the position of the plugins, but not correctly according to group priority. Now sorting changes nothing)

As mentioned earlier, I can't click "locked to index". It's stuck on "sorted automatically"

Then there's something wrong with with your install.

Either from when you ran it as an admin and lost ownership of the folders from doing so, or your loadorder.txt and plugin.txt are 'read only', because if you can't click the "lock to mod index", then there's something wrong, and you should resolve the problem by uninstalling and reinstalling, rather than continue using a not properly functioning mod manager

It was borked to begin with, which is why I tried running it as an admin. But it never actually launched as admin since Vortex detected it and asked to close before it loaded up.

Where are the loadorder.txt and plugin.txt located? Reinstalling it didn't fix the issue.

They should be in

C:\Users\<YOURNAME>\appdata\roaming\vortex\<NAME OF GAME>\profiles\<Random Profile Letters and Numbers\loadorder.txt

C:\Users\<YOURNAME>\appdata\roaming\vortex\<NAME OF GAME>\profiles\<Random Profile Letters and Numbers\lplugins.txt

You should spend the time to get Vortex working properly though, because there's other things that might not be working properly

Oh, I thought it would be fun to just leave it broken.

I checked the files, they're not read-only and Vortex are able to make changes to them, and can generate new files when they're deleted.

At this point i'm not sure what to troubleshoot anymore, since it does actually perform the sorting action and alters the files, just that the placement is not right.
