Bring it back for general use with up-repping only, to signal one's empathy/support for what a poster has written, add a <troll msg> button for 'those' posts, which doesn't appear on the sites themselves but admin can track back to whoever is using it, which will pretty quickly show who's using it as a weapon and they can be warned or banned, as well as see what/who genuine site users are considering troll stuff.

Because they now know that there is no immediate remedy, to their Troll comments, except The Report Button.

Then use the Report Button, that is the proper way to deal with trolling, starting an up and down repping war is no kind of a remedy. If anything I believe the repping system was nothing but a form of covert trolling and plain childish spite. I have been downrepped for things like politely pointing out a problem or query I have had with a mod (the rabid fanboism since Skyrim has been something to behold), and for querying what someone meant by "I don't have the Steam version of Skyrim". The rep system could too easily be abused to have a pop at someone with whom you disagree rather than trying to present a coherent counter.

I am sorry you had that experience, I would have up-voted you for doing that for sure.

If they want everything reported, as you have suggested in your post, I can do that as well though too.

Was the Rep System perfect, no it was not, and as you pointed out it was abused.

I think it was better than not having one though, but what has also been pointed out in this thread, is that it is early yet, and the dust needs to settle to see how the new system will work once it is in place.

I have not been playing Skyrim as of yet because I need to get a new rig for that game, and others of that quality I plan to get, so I have not seen how bad it is over there in that area.

Again sorry to see what happened to you with that, it has happened to me as well, but in my experience, it was the Exception to the rule and not the Norm.

And I Surely Hope It Remains As Such As Well ;) :)

Delete post option is much better, you can still view troll posts with the rep system you can't if you delete the post.

Then what? Let's see what just deleting the troll posts might cause:

1. Troll sees post deleted - goes on spamming rampage in counter-attack.

2. Troll just re-posts, but in a more aggressive manner.

3. Troll gathers others, mass trolling begins.

4. Staff has no references to check for pattern of behaviour.

5. Troll finds some other way to carry on his "task"

6. Troll ultimately doesn't care, and carries on.

7. Other comments addressed at troll now look odd with no reference.

Solution for now?

Don't respond - Report the message - Let staff deal with it.

Yes, it might take some time if there's no staff on site, but it will be dealt with.

I found being able to bury posts with 99 red arrows very effective, you'd only have to do it twice at most before they gave up and went away. It was far more effective than just having the comments removed, in my experience they come back and trolled again if the comment is removed.

Oh, thought it was just me and my web browser acting like crap again.

Personally I liked the rep system, but I'm not here for up/down voting someones comment. Here for the mods and to learn about modding myself. Plus being able to actually talk to the modder themselves is a major plus for me.

Besides, I'm not a paying member(yet) so who am I to complain?

If I had not caught wind of this particular thread, I would not have even known something was going on with the Rep System. Almost all of my commenting is done though the Forums, and not the individual Nexus sites themselves. Then again, I never really paid any attention to the system in the first place.

The trolls ammo supply has been substantially depleted, thanks nexus!
