Got a couple questions...

If you don't have a steam version, how do you use this? :P

I would really like to be able to use this, but I keep getting this:

0:17:4 Startup

0:17:4 steampath d:/program files/steam

0:17:4 steampath d:/program files/steam

0:17:4 checkcp return false

0:17:4 steampath d:/program files/steam

0:17:4 steampath d:/program files/steam

0:17:5 File not found

0:17:5 steampath d:/program files/steam

0:17:5 steampath d:/program files/steam

0:17:5 File not found

0:17:5 path vars org: no way no way

0:17:5 steampath d:/program files/steam

0:17:6 steampath d:/program files/steam

0:17:6 File not found

0:17:6 updateres var: no way

0:17:6 getmodfile: DefaultGameCore.mod

0:17:6 done

Is there some way to change the path for non-steam versions?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

~GC

So I had a question. I made a personal mod way back in the original release of the game; just an edit of the defaultgamecore file within the EXE. I just today re-downloaded and installed XCOM, came here, and noticed all this talk about editing UPK files, running all sorts of installers/patchers/etc to mod the game...if all I want to change is what's in the defaultgamecore ini within the EXE, is this Modpatcher all I need? or do I need an additional step? I see the DefaultGameCore.mod is just the ini file in .mod form, cool, so I just edit that, run the Modpatcher, and I'm good to go?

I used to use the Resource Hacker program, I'd just edit said file within the EXE and be on my merry way. Is that not possible anymore? I've read all...what, 17 pages? Of this thread, and I'm getting all sorts of mixed messages.

Yes :) Hopefully it works with the latest patch.

There are other tools being developed, but at the moment Modpatcher should be the best choice for you.

Since modpatcher hasn't been working for me today since the patch went through, I've been using Resource Hacker. It still works great.

It doesn't :wallbash: - you must go offline ...

I like Steam online, so using edited hosts to prevent phone home. It is kind of automatic thing for me.

Is anyone having success using modpatcher since the update hit? Every time I try to modpatch my meddled defaultgamecore.mod, it crashes and I have to restore the backup.

No problem here. Increased +20 health on kevlar armor and patched with Modpatcher fine.

I also have 2 entries in my hosts file to block their servers and also have the game set to not automatically update through steam...but it still did it anyway.

Because of new patch - Slingshot hotfix. Don't know, if Firaxis included anything other in it like teleporting aliens fix.

What is not working for you with new patch and Modpatcher?
