hoofhearted4
http://www.swtor.com/free/features most of it i already knew, so im not sure what exactly is the new information, but yea. that shows what you get when you pay and what you dont get when you dont. basically the only thing you get for F2P is the story missions. which IIRC people said start to get boring and the same around like half way or something. everything else youre limited to, including quick travel, inventory and even the rarity of weapons you can hold, like purple and above are off limits to F2P users. however, since its F2P, if you wanna shell out some cash, you can buy the rights to most of the stuff for a week. will you be going back at all once its F2P? i MIGHT. i didnt hate SWTOR, i just didnt wanna pay monthly for it. if it were like GW2 buy once then over, i would play it (and im sure many others would too) or if it werent such a rip off F2P i would be more inclined. so i might go back just to see how everything works out. i was only lvl 20, so Raids and stuff didnt matter to me, and being limited doesnt matter to me either. and i was on a low server so i didnt have anyone to do Flashpoints and Group Missions anyways....but like i said, itll be free so there is no reason not to try it out again eventually but i dont see me getting very far anyways. esp if the Quick Travel is as much of a hindrance as i feel it will be. I AM NOT walking across the entire map to turn in a ques.t
K00L
Yeah I might go back to it. Honestly I can't afford to do $15 a month so F2P is always nice. I wish it was like GW when it first came out. I spent $90 in one day just to see if I would like it. $90 for three months. I do like the game but I'm not too big on MMOs anyway. GW2 is the first I've ever really gotten into. I only made it to around level 20 with two different people in SWTOR in those three months.
Iv000
Yay free stuff! I'll go try this thing sometime, looks ok.
JimboUK
I don't think so, compare that to GW2, why would I stop playing GW2 to play half a game?
hoofhearted4
even when i try it i wont stop playing GW2, or i wont go try SWTOR until i need a break with GW2. considering SWTOR is F2P now, i wouldnt need to stop playing any other game just to play it. there would be no necessity to play because you are paying (which is the huge allure of GW2) i would be fine just playing an hour or so just like i do GW2 instead of feeling the need to play for several hours because im paying. ill go back. as i said, i didnt hate SWTOR, it was alright, but it wasnt good enough to pay monthly for (then again is any game?) had it been a one time fee like GW2, SWTOR would have been a much bigger success. then again, if i find that the shortcomings of F2P are too much of a hindrance, then ill give up. but its kinda like someone said, basically all it is now is a Free KOTOR with some extra stuff in it. so if i can just enjoy the story, then maybe it wont be soo bad after all. JimboUK
I didn't play the final game, I done the beta and didn't think much of it. I dare it say it's improved since the beta but I can't seem to make myself really interested. Deep down I still resent that fact that they made an MMO rather than KOTOR 3. I generally don't like MMOs anyway, I've only enjoyed a few, both Guild Wars and a couple of Korean ones I can't remember the names of.
Vagrant0
Hmm... Origins... That's a no. Gear rental... That's a HELL NO! Games like that, even if the only applicable gear is all end-game stuff, just gets stupid since eventually you have financially encouraged power-creep and you're pretty much only able to survive wearing that sort of equipment. It's a trap.
JimboUK
I don't think you need to install the Origin client, not for the DVD version anyway. I hadn't noticed the gear rental thing, they really must think people are stupid. There are dozens of "free" MMOs that offer far more than EA are offering here, other games at least give you a chance to get bored with them before the difficulty level pushes you into buying things with real money, this is crippled right from chargen. hoofhearted4
Origins not required. i have the Digital Version and i dont have Origins. no one ever said this will save SWTOR. it wont. the only thing that would possibly help SWTOR is if they just got rid of the F2P gimmick, got rid of the Subscription. and just sold the game for $60 and be done. like GW2. then MAYBE youd see a return in player base. this F2P thing they are doing, which is pathetic, might get some people back for a month or so, but it is not the revitalization of the game. ziitch
Going free shouldn't be the only option IMO. Taking a page out of GW2 and removing subscription fees would be a better option. Another idea is to redo a lot of locations and make them feel like people actually live in them. I've heard complaints that it's very empty and lifeless design-wise. Also, if you're on certain quests, like escorts for instance, at least hide people who are also doing the same quest as you, as when you see them it just serves as a cruel reminder that both you are basically the same person with the same "special" abilities, but with different ways to approach it - That just doesn't work in an MMO. All I can say is, when you make a MMO, don't let yourself conclude that having a large number of people is what the aesthetics depend on - The word "massive" in this genre really needs to be redefined for something else other than the populations of servers. My suggestion is how much there is to experience. Edited October 18, 2012 by ziitch
