Bethesda just deployed a new update for Skyrim SE folks... Better back up your games/lock Steam down in Offline Mode...

Or, people could just install Skyrim Exe Auto Backup and not have to freak out about every update.

Instead, just restore the EXE from the backup folder when the update is detected, and play your game with your current versions of SKSE64, and all of your mods until they all get updated.

Locking Steam down in Offline Mode is much simpler/far more convenient for me... I don't play/game online at all. 100% offline gaming for me. I don't have time for all the trolls & other riff raff that lurk across various online games.

Since I have Skyrim to only update when I run the exe, and since I use SKSE64, just starting the game with SKSE64 bypasses the trigger for Steam to update.

Plus, as I said, I also use the auto backup, which just allows me to use the backed up exe with the newly updated game until everything is updated.

Much easier, less stressful, and it's automatic.

I have steam set to only update at start-up, which I guess is what you're saying, but steam will always update SE for me when I start with SKSE64. Is there a setting or a way around this that you're doing? I use auto backup, so no real problem.

I have mine set to "Only update this game when I launch it", if it still starts the update, then I'm not sure what's going on.

I wonder if you already have steam running when you launch with SKSE64? I usually don't and will always get that little steam start-up update, and will have to quit & relaunch or SKSE mods won't work. If that's the case I may let steam run on pc start up.

Yea, I leave my library in the Steam Client open all the time in my second monitor.

It also lets me know to 'be careful' because it shows "Update Needed"

Howard broke my skyrim se with the latest update. I've played skyrim since 11/11/11 and have found out how much of a stupid noob I am. I have tried every way I can find to roll back to a previous version of SKSE and Skyrim se that I can find. with no success I would like to roll back to a version that is mid 2019 but I can't seem to find the right combination.I have tried unloading all my mods and running just skse. the results are the same. I get "The code execution cannot proceed because steam_api64.dll was not found. reinstalling the program may fix this problem. Now I don't know if it is talking about reinstalling skyrim se or reinstalling steam? any help would be appreciated. I'm on the back side of 60 and my brain doesen't work as good as it used to.

No one broke anything. This is a risk that all modders, regardless of game, take when modding and playing games that are currently being updated.

To your problem. It seems to me that you are asking two things here: (1) how to roll back your Skyrim SE installation, and (2) how to unbork your current installation.

1 The only way you can roll back is if you had previously made a backup. Or I suppose you might find one online, uploaded by another player. There isn't an official way to do this.

2 My suggestion would be to make a backup of your mods and then reinstall the game. SKSE has already been updated for this current update, so you can go ahead and reinstall all of your mods and play the game as you had been.

After that, I suggest you take the steps that have been suggested in this thread of turning off automatic updates and optionally playing in offline mode.

You've completely hosed your installation of Skyrim by uninstalling, reinstalling, uninstalling mods, reinstalling mods, and doing random stuff to your installation that has nothing to do with the the update.

All you had to do was just update SKSE64, and wait for the mods that depend on it to update, or to just search for Rollback, and follow the instruction to download the 1.5.80 exe from Steam.

It's so frustrating to have people asking for help, AFTER they've spent hours ruining their working install, that could've been easily fixed by just following the directions to rollback to 1.5.80 until all the mods for SKSE64 have been updated.

That's why I use the SkyrimSE.Exe Auto Backup mod.

That when when Skyrim SE updates, the auto backup mods, writes the old version of the skyrimse.exe to a backup folder, so I can just restore the exe and continue playing until SKSE64 and the mods that depend on it update.
