AugustaCalidia
I seem to be in the minority when it comes to getting Vortex to actually work. I just cannot get to install the simplest of mods. The one I absolutely cannot get to install is the "Ami Asian Preset". I have tried and tried but nothing. If anyone might have a solution I would appreciate it. I really like the mod and feel it would be a good addition to my presets. You need to take this issue to a Fallout 4 support forum. The only Nexus Mods post (so far) for this mod preset indicates that the mod itself has some kind of problem.

The only Nexus Mods post (so far) for this mod preset indicates that the mod itself has some kind of problem. I will add "Ami Asian Presets" is a brand new mod, posted on 7 January. It has been downloaded a total of 66 times. Let experienced mod users have a crack at it first, and post their comments. There are a bunch of pithy comments about trailblazers I will spare you - but don't be first on a new mod. Rattledagger
Secondly, as to all the comments about the better capabilities of Vortex to sort mod conflicts, I'll just stick to xEdit.Well personally I wouldn't use xEdit to sort the mod conflicts in MO2's left panel... As for BSAs, those would have to be extracted first in order to work with the individual files within them. You're saying Vortex can look inside those without them being extracted? And you can decide which individual files (textures, meshes, etc.) should or should not be installed/overwritten? I find that hard to believe, but if you say it is so, then that's a handy feature indeed. You can't see inside bsa-archives in Vortex, you'll have to extract the files before you can do anything with the individual files. Now, since it can seem where's some confusion between what the different parts are called, in a somewhat simplified way can say:1: Vortex mods-tab ~ MO2's left panel + downloads-tab.2: Vortex plugins-tab ~ MO2's right panel For 2, Vortex relies on LOOT to sort plugins, just like hitting "sort" in MO2's right panel will sort the plugins in MO2. In addition Vortex allows you to put Plugins into LOOT Groups, or you can create LOOT "load after..." rules, or you have the non-LOOT option of locking plugin to a specific index. For 1, in Vortex to handle conflicts on the per-mod level you create either "load before..." or "load after..." rules. While these rules can look similar to LOOT rules, these rules has nothing to do with LOOT. Vortex per-mod rules is similar to drag-and-drop a mod up or down in MO2's left panel, to be above or below a conflicting mod. For 1, in Vortex after resolving the per-mod conflicts, you can also handle per-file conflicts. While Vortex seems to call this "overrides", personally I would say a more descriptive name would be "Conflict Winner Rule". The closest MO2 has is to "hide" files. So, to sum up:LOOT (rules) --> works only on pluginsmods != pluginsmod rules != LOOT (rules) The "mods != plugins" is the same asMO2's left panel != MO2's right panel
nosebleeed
trash. installed it tonight because nmm isn't supported anymore and nothing works. everything is apparently redundant, it keeps asking me for permissions and asking me again when i grant them, even though nothing is set to read only. can't run it as admin because it gets mad at you for doing so. nmm worked perfectly and never gave me any issues and now vortex is downright unusable for me even after an hour of troubleshooting
ThatHomelesGuy
In short, no it's not really worth it. If you don't mind letting it do everything for you concequences be damned then it's great but if you want to manually adjust anything in your mod install then it's needlessly complicated and overbearing where it seems to want to undermine your efforts to make simple changes that pretty much every mod manager before lets you do easily and intuatively. All NMM does, is watch you do that, and never says a word, while you destroy your load order. So, although people perceive NMM as "Working Perfectly" because it never complains (because it CAN'T), in reality, all it's doing is letting you muck everything up, and staying quiet about it.But whatever makes you happy. I get the impression that they have missed the point that there really needs to be a middle ground between the users needs and desired path they want to take with handling plugins. While it is great to have Vortex look for and "correct" issues for the user on the fly and even flag issues that it cannot or does not solve automatically it makes no effort to meet the user in the middle whatsoever when the user wants or simply NEEDs to make manual adjustments to that. It speaks to an overconfidence in themselves to be able to do everything automgically by Vortex without fault or question and shows a certain contempt for the users opinions or needs when presented OVER and OVER again by the user to them. Ultimately it will either struggle along damaging the modding enviornment through lack of flexibility until it dies a natural death with a reputation like marmite or it a community alternative will eventually pop up which will ultimately leave it for dust with the few users who do stick with it because their needs are basic. I guess we'll see.

I mean, did it really tell you that you can't connect to Nexusmods unless you downloaded Vortex? Really? I am going to say that it didn't say anything like that at all, and you've just conflated that because it suits your argument. In this post-truth world, this seems to be the norm, where the ignorant and grossly misinformed can shout the loudest and that becomes their truth, even though it's complete gibberish. If you have used Vortex on an active game then, again I'd ask why given that the developers advised from the get-go not to do this. This is probably another failure in reading on your end. Given the elementary failures at the start then the whole exercise would be doomed to fail. It seems to be that you've ignored all the advice, watched none of the video's and tried to treat Vortex as if it's NMM. Do you treat a book like a table? Do you treat a car like a horse? Do you wear shoes on your hands? Those would all be silly, wouldn't they? Same rules apply. Vortex works. It's an undeniable fact. User errors are also undeniable facts. However if you remove your errors from your process of using Vortex incorrectly, so that you use Vortex properly, and then you get an issue, that's a bug. You can then tell the developers about the bug and they will fix it. That's how this works.
