"Your Vortex installation has been corrupted... Reinstall it."

When I download the newest version of Vortex and install it over the new one, I still get the same message of "Your Vortex installation has been corrupted." When I try to use my old Vortex version now, I now get the same message, too. What can I do now? Is everything broken?

Uninstall it, and reinstall it

But wouldn't that remove all the mods and the inter-relationships and deployments?

Unfortunately yes, but since it's corrupted, you can't use it anyway

Make sure you don't have Vortex installed Twice in two different places

That's a nightmare, given I have like 210 mods installed. Why would the new Vortex version break the old one? It was working fine before the update...

Thanks for answering the question, though.

Well, just in case, make sure you don't have two versions of Vortex installed, because IIRC other people with that corruption problem, ended up having two Vortex's installed

I deinstalled Vortex (like any app), but when I use LOOT after the fact, I still seem to have my mods. Shouldn't that be impossible? Or is that an indicator of a second Vortex being present?

Did you check to see if you had two versions installed BEFORE you uninstalled?

It's possible I guess, that's why I suggested you check and make sure you don't have two versions installed

Try doing a search for Vortex.exe

Yes, I did, but no, only one versio nof Vortex. Still, when I search for Vortex, I still get A LOT of data that says "folder managed by vortex".

EDIT: After removing everything even remotely associated with Vortex, I still get the same message of corruption.

a) No, reinstalling vortex will not lose your installed mods. It never has. Unless you remove the staging folder or the %appdata%/vortex folder, you're not losing anything

b) You're going at this completely the wrong way. Vortex is telling you that some outside application has deleted or modified Vortex application files (application files being only the stuff the installer puts on your system in c:\program files, not any of your data like mods or mod meta information).

Vortex is not wrong about this, this actually happened and you need to deal with it.

Downgrading or waiting for a future version isn't going to help because the feature (Vortex validating its own files) works correctly. You can check the log file %appdata%/vortex/vortex.log for a list of files that have been modified but the long and short of it is: Some other software on your computer is damaging Vortex during or shortly after the installation. That is either a s#*! anti virus or a virus (it is amazing how often I have to write "your problem is caused either by a virus or by the software that is supposed to protect you from viruses". It's like if medicine had a 50% chance of causing the sickness it's supposed to heal).

Either way, you need to get rid of that and get a good AV (that is: if you had a crap AV replace it with a good one, if you got yourself infested with a virus you clearly had no AV or it was crap as well)

A less likely cause is hardware corruption, either RAM or the HDD could cause Vortex files to be corrupted (I guess broken RAM could also lead to the validation producing incorrect results)

So HadToRegister was wrong about the mods being removed? But the inter-dependencies and deployments are removed, right?

Vortex was doing fine until the update came along, so if another programme altered or damaged Vortex during or after the installation, then that was quite an odd coincidence. Not that it's impossible, I have had problems with AV's before, but the timing is extremely odd. I'll investigate, see if I can either find a Virus or if the AV itself is the problem.

No, the inter-dependencies between mods (data) is stored in %APPDATA%/vortex, that folder isn't touched during a vortex update/reinstall. The installer really only touches the application files (the program) and the application files aren't/shouldn't be modified after installation, that's kind of the point of the file validation.

If the problem is caused by an AV, it would only ever happen during installation. The AV scans files as they are added to your disk and if it finds something suspicious, it may delete/quarantine it. It wouldn't make sense to do that for files that have been around for a while unless you're actually triggering a full scan. So no, this wouldn't be odd timing, the initial installation and then during updates is the only time an AV would be touching the Vortex files.
