Mod ideas I wish existed.

I have a bunch of ideas I would love to see in mods for Fallout 4. If they already exist then slap me a link. If you have an idea for a good mod... put it below. Maybe some of the talented mothers could get some inspiration of these. I would prefer to keep this thread lore friendly and mostly settlement stuff.

1. First and foremost is likely the hardest one. I think each settler should represent a family... some only a family of one. What I would love is some animated family members that do not impact the settlement. Think of a baby in a playpen or crib or as a clothing mod in a sling or pack on a settler. Think of an old guy sleeping in his lazy chair or a grandmother knitting in a rocking chair. Or maybe little kids playing with toys. You might have a mod that lets you set women as more defensive and the men as more aggressive. It would also be nice to have unassigned settlers patrol around the settlement.

2. Chickens wandering around and a chicken coup and pig pen would be cool too. Sprinklers (for greenhouses too) and scare crows might work too. Things to make a settlement feel real. Log splitting station, wood fireplaces, log piles. wood bin, smoker, bonfire... How about a hot tub?

3. I have seen some crafting stations and utilities with animations and would love to see more. A wash tub and board for washing cloths would be great. I see the clinic and there is a few items in Creative Clutter (or something like that) with tables with medical stuff and a table with IV, and I have seen a medical bed for sleeping, but I was thinking something more like a checkup bed (I like heavily decorated vendors). I was thinking something like the Vault barber chair, but as a recliner with supports for the legs.

4. Like the creative Clutter mod I would love to see furniture pre decorated. I would like more dresser and nightstands so I can have more variety in the bedrooms. I would also like some more filled wall and floor shelves. Maybe some clothing racks. More for the kitchen. I was thing some canning jars, potato sacks, canisters... along with current boxed goods. Maybe a wall rack with spices, flour and sugar containers measuring cups, and backing pans. Cutting boards and knife blocks for the counters would be good. Maybe some hat racks and coat hooks.

5. Is there a way to remove grass in the build menu, like scrapping? I am tired of grass coming through the floors all the time. I tried a mod that removed grass from existing buildings but it did not work well for me and did not help for new buildings.

6. Some more lights, desk lamps, vanity lights, door lights, and flood lights. A porch swing, rocking chair, whicker... some more (smaller) waste baskets, garbage cans, and junk crates.

I would like to see more mod interoperability between NPCs. Can't wait for Heather Casdin to have some dialogue with Sarah Lyons from Project Valkyrie and other NPC interactions. That way Fallout 4 can catch up to Skyrim. The game takes on a new dimension of immersiveness when that happens.

There are three mods I'd like to have:

1. A working mod to deny settlers access to a chest or room. All mods I tried for this did not prevent settlers from stealing my stuff (intermediate solution: the "build high platform + remove ladder" method, the only one which works reliably).

2. A mod to command settlers to stay at a given place or to keep doing a certain duty. I'm sick of shopkeepers or doctors stopping interactions and running to the opposite side of the settlement because a molerat was detected at the horizon; it's more so important because I use mortal settlers (intermediate solution: make settlers unaggressive and helping nobody).

3. A mod for building a brahmin based fast travel station "settlement to settlement", maintained by a settler and using fodder related to the distance of fast travel (intermediate solution: use of the awesome mod "Immersive Fast Travel" and pretending a motorbike to be a legged transport device).

For the first problem, I would simply make sure there was a gap between whatever method I used to get up to the correct level, and the floor of that level, so the navmesh was not contiguous. That prevented them from walking in, but, I still haven't found a decent way of preventing them from spawning inside...... I had Preston as a room mate for quite a while, as he couldn't get out of the building while I was there, and he seemed to constantly spawn inside. Just another aspect of Preston that annoys me. :D

The gap idea might or might not work, since NPCs tend to teleport to places they can't get to. Especially Marcy seems to be quite skilled in that. I built my quarters in Sanctuary Hills on the top level of a building and left a gap between the stairs and the floor that even I can't barely jump. It's quite normal that your current follower manages to come after you but it frequently happens that I found Marcy near my bed whenever I woke up. Maybe that's just because she wants to kill me because I use the "Get out of the Way" mod to push her into the mud quite frequently.

Now that I think about it... that was the main reason why I installed that mod in the first place...

My method is to build a high but open small place. It must not be encased and locked because settlers sometimes spawn in inaccessible places. I use two of the small metal scaffold pieces, with a wooden platform on top and a chest on the platform. You cannot interact with the chest from anywhere. If I want access, I install a ladder, climb it, go out of building mode, interact with the chest, go into building mode and remove the ladder. I never ever had an item stolen by settlers from such a chest.

There are two additional mods I want to have I forgot:

1. A mod which allows you to apply a keyword to an item, so that the item can be damaged or destroyed by a random factor depending on the amount of use.

I'm a bit annoyed by the abundance of weapon and armor loot in FO4, and contrary to ammo and all the other stuff ruled by LLD or similar lists you cannot reduce weapon and armor drops easily. I use a mod (now gone from the Internet) which destroys armor and weapons use-and-random-based but it works only for vanilla items and not the DLCs and sometimes I doubt the effects of the script.

2. A mod which allows you to define a percentage for weapons and armor loot from dead NPCs.

Could be an alternative to the mod mentioned above or the perfect add-on. Maybe impossible, as it seems to be hardcoded that all weapons and armor in the inventory of a NPC drop no matter what.

To keep settlers out I usually used a powered door and a switch. I did have a gap I had to jump over before. Always take cores out of power armor. I usually do display rooms closed off this way. I also do not think NPC can figure out elevators.

Those methods work as well, still though, I haven't found a way to prevent settlers from spawning where I don't want them...... Would love to be able to control just WHERE they show up, depending on time of day.

So then I take it that the lockable door and container mods don't work for this?

And I'll agree that settlers can make their way wherever they want to. I tried locking Jane in the vault-tech DLC in the underground section of the vault by blocking off the hallway to the exit. She eventually teleported through it.

Hmmmm. Mods that I wished existed. Well, since this is just "wishing" ---

I wish there was an in-game method to add items to a crafting bench for crafting. IE- These mods that make me go chasing all over the commonwealth for a gun or armor.

(ESP explorer, I can't get to work. I do know about it tho  And intimately familiar with "help xxxx 4 weap" )

I wish there was a mod that would give me all the crud and crafting perks, right off the bat. Oh wait, I've already written my bat script for that one.

I wish that there were cryo pods that I could lock some of the really annoying characters up in and put them on ice.

I wish I could finally figure out how to kick the drek out of Simone at Drumlin Diner without setting off Wolfgang, and put the crackhead out of his misery without setting off his mom.

I wish there were actual GLOWING crosshairs in scopes for sniping at night.

Crafting weapons and armor... that is kind of a balance thing. Console commands like additem will just give you those things. I think I ran across ammo crafter a long time ago. I think there are also mods that let you add levels... or even alternative settings that skip the vault starting and let you start in different locations with certain starting levels. I also think there are console commands to add perks and levels. I think there are also mods to make certain non killable NPCs killable and console commands to auto kill kill them that will not piss everybody off. I have not heard of a mod for alternative endings for the diner. There is a night sight scope mod that can toggle on and off to be used as a regular scope in lighting. It should not be hard to do that mod though.

More mods I would want...

7. I would LOVE a mod that added more missions if you side with the traders in Nuka World. They only have one mission and it is to kill all the raiders. What I would want is some missions so it is not a hug slugfest. Say they want you to steal something from one clan and hide it on another to make two clans upset with each other. Then another to kill a clan member and frame it on another to start a war between them to reduce their numbers of one clan and kill off the framed clan. Then a mission to unlock a weapons cache for the traders and another to unlock their collars. Then the Traders join you helping to drive off the remaining clans. Maybe even a mission to poison the food of the last clan to reduce its numbers too. Then after the raiders are done they can ask you to clear out the parks for them, turn on the power, and maybe even find a few that had fled. I hate siding with raiders, but if you do not there is little reason to deal with the parks. A few more settlements would be cool too, like at the diner after you finish the Hubologist mission. A trader follower would be really cool... that you could buy off or win somehow. There is a Nuka World farm settlement mod I would include. It would be cool to actually see the parks running with customers... but that I do not think would be easy to do.

8. I would not mind a mod that added customers for venders and such that would walk around places like Diamond city and get haircuts, see the doctor, visit the vendors and walk around. Bunker Hill would be good too. Even if all they did was say things like "I wonder if they have the items I need today" or "that is way too many caps for that". Even better would be travellers that would come to settlements to visit your tradfers... and maybe even pay for lodging if you set some up. Maybe have a logging vendor like the one at Bunker Hill. I hate being the ONLY customer in the entire Commonwealth basically.
