This has just happened to me this week, where vortex is insisting that mods have been deleted outside of vortex and then refuses to properly link metadate, update mods, and adds a filed to the mods folder.

no mods have been deleted outside of vortex. so why is the program blatantly lying.

i have uninstslled both the game and vortex to no avail. on beinfg reinstalled it once again blatantly lies about mods being uninstalled outside of vortex.

it is impossible to solve and i have found nothing online.

That is nice. It is reporting that mods have been removed outside of vortex. I can demonstrate that this is a falsehood. Why is it programmed to lie.

and more importantly how does one solve the problem? Since doing a clean reinstall of both Skyrim we and vortex gets the same message.

Well, are you using Windows Defender?

If so, try turning off "Controlled Folder Access"

Also, Vortex has NOT been "programmed to lie", what would be the point of that?
If it was truly programmed to lie, then almost every thread in these support forums would be saying that.
So far you're the only person who is claiming that.
Vortex is verbose with what it tells you.

Vortex could be referring to another program that has deleted or changed the mod, such as opening it up in Xedit, and editing a few parameters in the ESP.

What file was added to the mods folder?

Also, WHERE is your Mod Staging Folder located, give me the path.
Where is your Downloads folder, give me the path.
Where is your game installed, give me the path.

Thanks for the response. I cannot see how windows defender can be an issue, since vortex has been working fine for months until this week.

i have the game and vortex installed on the same drive, different folders, including a separate staging folder.

i have done a uninstalled both the game and vortex multiple times now trying to solve the issue, yet it continues to insist that I have uninstalled mods outside of vortex, which I have not.

the addition to the mods, seems to be the name of my staging folder. I enclose a picture in my previous post.

its got worse vortex is now adding two different files to the mods, both names of staging folders. uninstalling game, or manager has zero effect the mod manager is remembering wherer everything was previously and will not allow me to start fresh.

When you unistalled Vortex and Skyrim SE, did you also delete {USER}\AppData\Roaming\Vortex, the Skyrim SE folder in {USER}\AppData\Local, and the Skyrim SE folder in Documents\My Games??
