And I mean that with availability it also has to do with enemy scaling as you suggest. All of that is fine, as long as you cannot walk to location x at level 1 and pick up end game loot.

like walking up to the cryolater and typing " ~ unlock (enter). player.additem xxxxxx 1000 (enter)."

Sorry, I'm not gonna give the spoilers for the code to the ammo. (no actually, that's me trying to prop myself up. In truth, I'm being too lazy to look it up).

There's times that I like to argue about what would be realistic or not, we comic book nerds used to argue that, and lore all day long. But when it comes to games...If it's a game that can be modded, do what makes ya happy. If it's not a game that is online, and isn't gonna cheat other people, do what makes ya happy.

You're a lot like my last roommate. The game was fun for him if it was more challenging. He wanted it harder.

For me, I don't think I'm gonna shoot some raider in the head with a 44 or a 10 mil, watch them stagger back a step, shake it off, and then start shooting back at me. That's not fun.

Not to me anyway. But I'm too much of a gun nut.

If you recall my topic from a while back there's an issue with frozen enemy respawning as alive, but permanently frozen. I'm not touching the cryolator with a 10-foot pole.

Game doesn't need to be hard. It needs to be fun. I do play on "Very Hard", but the sole reason is that it increases legendary enemiy spawns. And after level 30 or so nothing is hard anymore, so having enemies with a bit more health is fine by me. And in terms of dealing damage I just uploaded a mod that makes the minigun actually worth using. Even without explosive upgrade. I've been using it for a while myself before uploading it, but I liked it so much I wanted to share.

Oh that's right! I'm sorry, we never did get that fixed! :(

Eh, well, I was just bringing it up as a bad joke. But yeah, I forgot that you were the one having that problem.

I just saw your minigun mod! It's doing pretty good, 147 DL's as I type this.

Everything in the game is distributed via leveled lists. There are something that are 'set in stone', but, not very many. Very powerful items SHOULD be hard to find, and rare. It would be possible to configure the lists to reflect that. Of course lower-tier stuff is going to be more common, as are pipe weapons, as opposed to things like the 10mm pistol, hunting rifle, et. al. Considering no one has made new ones for more than 200 years...... one would think they would be EXTREMELY scarce by the time the player emerges from the vault...... Likely firearms in general would be rare..... and melee weapons, bows, crossbows, etc, would be far more common.

The problem is, everything is distributed by leveled lists. :D Which means, there are a LOT of them. So, the 'unleveled' project would be tedious in the extreme, and probably rather hard to balance out.....

As it is, in my current game, I think I am just over level 30, and I have a STACK of Mossberg shotguns..... (modern firearms) probably a couple dozen. I can't count the number of AKM variants that I have. I could probably outfit an entire army, with nice weapons and armor....... In a world where no one has made a new firearm for more than 200 years.... that just seems kinda odd. :) But of course, FO is about firearms, and fight with/over them. :D So, I don't expect to ever see such a mod come about. :D

Leveled lists go up to level 40 max in my experience. And with the wealth of experience in the game it's actually really early that you unlock basically everything including the perks to craft them. But even if you don't have the perks you can get the mods elsewhere. I've played with 1 intelligence and no Gun Nut/Science perks and was doing just fine getting all my weapons modded.

But leveled lists can easily be altered. There's just a whole bunch of them and let's just say that Bethesda isn't the "cleanest" or "consistent" programmers. These things don't all follow the same naming convention and are scattered all over the place.

But it's true that anything is readily available in the commonwealth. I mean everyone is smoking for instance while there hasn't been a new pack of cigarettes created for over 200 years. And I can tell you that even sealed cigarettes don't last 200 years.

:) Exactly. I am thinkin' that even after a year or two, most cigarettes would be unsmokeable...... They would taste terrible, and rip your lungs out by the roots. (which would certainly encourage folks to quit smoking..... :) ) I could see Cram lasting 200 years though.....

Canned food will last a very very long time, but it doesn't mean all of them will be ok. It's possible for food to last in can for 200 years, but it's advised to cook the food first regardless to make sure you don't get poisoning from bacteria in it.

Another thing that is odd is that everyone wants the fallout world to look crappy and dead. While the truth of the matter would be the complete opposite. After 200 years everything would be lush and green and overgrown with lots and lots of plantlife. And water wouldn't be muddy or dirty. It would be crispy clean because there's no polution for 200 years.

Ok so first off, I definitely like the title that you chose for the minigun mod. I keep checking to see if anybody has gotten triggered by that yet. (triggered. gun mod. pun.)

As for how the world would have changed, and the way that food would or wouldn't be ok to eat. It's a really great topic for debate.

In another thread.

This is about guns.

Thanks!

ACK! Sorry! I was thinking that I was still looking at my thread about the guns. SO SORRY!

Yep, after 200 plus years, the world would look DRAMATICALLY different than how it is currently portrayed. There wouldn't be ANY buildings left...... if they had been made from concrete, there may be some shells left, but, anything metal or wood, would be long gone.

There is an anime called Doctor Stone that portrayed that extremely well, about how nature would have taken back over, when humanity went bye-bye. As well as the effects of time, on the wood and metal structures.

Now, myself however, IF it was me, I sure as heck would not eat anything that had been sitting out near ground zero, and been bombarded by nuclear radiation. Maybe that's just me....
