1v0
Hello, So I reinstalled my windows a few days ago(only C without D inorder to keep all my mods/games). Now when I launch my vortex all mods are gone (i fixed this by swaping directions to the place it was before (all my mods and vortex are in D) so OK np. I fixed those problems . Now the main problem is deployment of mod. everytime i want to deploy mods it asks me to purge... and I don't want to... (on skyrim SE). I have both skyrim SE and LE for now i have launched only SE (i have less mods there) I don't dare to launch SK LE because i have many mods there 255+ with merges ! I have been collecting mods for years now... The problem is deployment of mods without purge also when i install mods they don't install in my SK SE . I have to do it manually the same goes for active plugins (thou I found a work around I Just stop vortex and launch it again)... This purge setting has already deleted most of my mods(before I could stop it)... Is there a way to disable it ? EDIT:Should I just delete vortex and redownload it (will it pruge my old mods this way ?) Edited January 19, 2020 by 1v0
HadToRegister
Purge just severs the link from the Mod Folder to the Data folder.Vortex is trying to establish the links you deleted when you wiped your C:\Users\<YOUR NAME>\appdata\roaming\vortex folder where all that stuff is stored. ANiceOakTree
Hi I have this same problem, I also reinstalled windows recently and I didn't save my old appdata\roaming\vortex folder. I had saved my old Skyrim folder with my mods and moved it back to my C drive (the backup is gone now), it was all working fine with all my mods after doing that. But, I redownloaded Vortex and it was complaining about there being an old instance of vortex and to purge it. I decided to do that, and now half my mods are gone... The ones I guess I installed with Vortex and not manually. They were all there before I hit purge, they're not in the clean appdata\roaming\vortex folder, they'da not in my Data folder, they're not in my recycle bin, are they just gone forever? Hiding somewhere? I sure love Vortex.

Unfortunately...you didn't back up the appdata\roaming\vortex folder and, when you say "Purged" vortex, what do you mean?Did you completely uninstall it, then install the new version, or did you just install the new version over the old (preferred), because completely uninstalling Vortex before installing the new version, would've most likely wiped your "Vortex.deployment.json" files in each of your game data directories, which keep track of the mods you have installed. (Hopefully Tannin42 will correct me if I'm wrong) If you just used the PURGE function in Vortex, then just trying hitting the DEPLOY button. If you used the default installation of Vortex, then your Downloads folder should be somewhere like appdata\roaming\vortex\downloads, which you unfortunately didn't backup. codalafin
I did nothing but didn't use it for a while, then it updated to presumably catch up to a month's worth of updates, and then asked me to purge mods. There should be a better explanation on the window for what that does, or just an option to 'No, I don't want to do this'. It's annoying that it pops up each time after making any small change to anything in my list of mods.

Personally, I never use the Vortex update feature. I download the most recent version of Vortex from Nexus Mods and then install Vortex using the Vortex installer. Your post is a bit confusing. At one point you mention "Purge," and then at another time you refer to a situation where the "External Changes" menu is triggered. Which are you talking about, or are you talking about both? As for Purge, here's the Vortex warning that pops up when you push the "Purge" button on the Mods Page taskbar. "Purge" is also defined in the Vortex Knowledge Base under "User Interface Overview." I redownload Vortex and it keeps having a pop up complaining about multiple instances of Vortex and that I should purge my mods. Stupidly, because I should never just blindly trust these things, I click it and about 30 mods I downloaded with Vortex are wiped from my Data folder and are nowhere because the appdata folder was wiped previously. I'm kinda gathering they're not in a neat folder anymore. But the silver lining from this is I do have a good number of them still in my Downloads folder, and I can look at my previous downloads and redownload. My SSE wasn't super modded but this is still super frustrating and you guys should implement some safety measures, because that pop up was confusing and screwed me over. Purge is NON-Destructive, the problem was was that you wiped the appdata folder where all that info was stored, so Vortex had nothing to reference. This is how purge works.Your problem is the INFO in appdata was wiped.

Following up on HTR's instructive comment, I would reinforce his point that installing Vortex does not delete your Vortex folders in AppData\Roaming\Vortex. The default installation folder for the Vortex program is not App\Data but C:\Program Files\Black Tree Gaming Ltd. That folder does not contain any mods and mod archives. Neither does purging delete your mods Purging simply removes hardlinks from your game data folder. These hardlinks can easily be restored by deploying. So if you're missing mods, it's not anything that Vortex did. Edited February 6, 2020 by AugustaCalidia
