Braeburn92
I wanted to get back into Fallout 4 despite the 300 hours I already have. So far though, I cant find ANY MODS that work with the game. Im well aware there are mods that do work with the current build, and without insulting the authors, they arent my cup of tea.For example: I would like to have very skimpy clothing with butt and boob physics. Literally no mods for this build exist like those. I have to ROLL back the game and so far NOTHING works. Ive come to a point where its: Play with lack luster mods or dont play at all. For more info on my problem check these posts out: https://www.reddit.com/r/f4se/comments/ey1y3x/rolled_back_game_crashes_before_logos_even_show/
StormWolf01
Hiyas Braeburn. Yeah, I can understand where you're coming from. That's the first reaction that I had too, when they first made the game changes back in November. But, bugthesda can't beat us! We have adapted! If you have F4se, you can use this mod. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/42497 it's a script that makes the game bypass the header version check. Works pretty well :) You can also manually change the header information in Xedit. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/2737 It's actually really simple to do, and only takes a few seconds, once you get the hang of it. You just load up the mod esp/esm/esl and in the left hand panel click on the + next to the mod name. Then you left click on the portion that reads Header. All of the newer mods will have a header that reads 1.000000You simply right click on that value, choose edit, and then change it to 0.950000 then save the file. Don't get discouraged brother :)-Storm

I just installed the first linked mod via the nexus mod manager, but because im slow i wanted to make sure i understood you right. Do i download this then launch FO4 edit to change the headers? HeyYou
If you install the FOSE plugin, then you just need to start the game with FOSE_launcher. (run it as admin) The plugin will take care of the rest. Before you try that though, make sure your mod manager put the plugin in the right place. Should be in Fallout 4\Data\F4SE\Plugins
StormWolf01
Heyas Braeburn!Ahhh yes, another candidate for Keyboard abusers anonymous. I've been to some of the meetings, they do good work :)Their sister club tho, Controller Throwers Anonymous, not so much. Be ready to duck rapidly, if you ever attend one of those.LOL ok ok, enough joking around. Using the F4se script, along with the instructions that HeyYou added in, should have you going well for most of the mods in use. There are some, such as LooksMenu, WryeBash, and other mods that are F4se specific, which this will Not help tho. Because all of those are dependent on your version of f4se, which is dependent on your game version. I only posted the second recommendation about changing the file headers, because some people don't want to use f4se ;) Glad to help out. Yeah, when they first made these changes back in Nov. a lot of us started throwing fits. The guy who made that version checker script is a lifesaver :)Cheers!-Storm
Braeburn92
While i still have ya, do you know if I can use newer mods or do i gotta stick with 1.9.4 version tailored mods? Also if im using an older F4SE could i use newer mods that depend on F4SE also?
StormWolf01
o_O 1.9.4Wow. Wow, um... yeah you really have been out of the game for a while. Most current version is 1.10.163, and before that, it was 1.10.138(OK, technically... it was .162. But that was only for a few days.)I apologize, I did not know that your game version was that far back. I do not know if that f4se script is compatible with the f4se version that is compliant with your game version number. I'm hoping so.I also do not know what the header version is, for a build number that old either. If the script is not compatible with the build version of f4se that you have, you may have to do the header changes. What you'd need to do, is look at the headers for the mods that you have now, and see what version number that they are using. And then make those changes to the newer mods you are wanting to make. However. I only started playing this game about a year ago. So I do not know what kind of changes that they have made to the game since the version number that you have. I do not know what kind of incompatibilities that you might have, because of all the changes that have gone on through the version numbers since the .9 series. I'm really not sure what I would recommend that you do here. I myself, do not consider the latest release to be stable enough to recommend upgrading to 163. I can't recommend upgrading to version .138 because there is no legal source for it anymore, you can't get it off steam without updating a bunch of files that you have no means to roll back. Ummmm.... yeah. The version of your game being that far behind... that does leave us with some problems here. :(

Ummmm.... yeah. The version of your game being that far behind... that does leave us with some problems here. :sad:Yeah, haha. I might be wrong and I am open to change but I only went as far back as the 1.9.4 build because I recalled when first playing this game it was around April 2017 and that version had some of my favourite mods including but not limited to: Cannibas Commonwealth and Skimpy Clothing replacer. Upon my continual research, the internet has told me that the only mods I have to worry about are mods that rely on the script extender. It was reported to me that if I use a new build of Fallout 4, Id have to use a new build of script extender which forces me to use only new mods. So if i had a mod that didnt rely on script extender, I could use it. This is unconfirmed on me end mainly due to how long it takes to mod Fallout 4. What you told me to do worked on my version of Fallout. After installing the linked mod, I can see and choose all of the Menu options. I got through the first 2 hours(actually it was 40 minutes but still) of the game; what with making my character and all.
StormWolf01
Hey, what works for ya, works for ya. Don't change it (especially with bethesda games!!) if it ain't broke. ;)I'm of a similar fashion as well, I rolled back to a previous version, and after seeing some of the gamebreaking CTD's that some folks are having, that we've yet to get fixed, I'm very glad of having backups of my game folders. There are only a very few mods/tools here on the nexus that are version specific towards F4se. Sadly, many of them are staple mods, like AWKRC, LooksMenu, and Wryebash. With exception to the very latter, older versions of the two former are still floating around. Tho again, that far back.... I haven't checked. So yeah, what it's going to come down to there, is kinda checking the release dates of the mods that use F4se, and reading through the description and posts to see if there is a version number that is required.Fortunately! Tho, F4se keeps archives of their older versions available to people! :) Really glad to hear that you're up and running. And glad to know that I was able to help out :)-Storm

So far I havent been able to mod my game because I dont know where to even start lol. Hopefully this thread will help others like me.
