Game freeze during the Mercer Safehouse quest

Hi guys, I have a weird problem, when doing the 'Mercer Safehouse' quest P.A.M sends me to the 'Coastal Cottage' to turn that into a safehouse, when I get there and activate the workbench it says 'build defences (0%)' so I built a defence post then tried to put in some turrets but the game constantly froze when I place the first turret, "ah", I hear you saying, "sounds like a mod conflict to me", and normally I would agree BUT it only happens in 'Coastal Cottage' all other settlements allow the placing of as many turrets as I want.

I have tried the following.....

Restart of game - no effect

Restart of computer - no effect

Steam verification of files - all files up to date - no effect

Restarting the quest from a previous save - no effect

Reinstalled video drivers - no effect

System Specs.....

ASRock AB350 Gaming Motherboard

AMD Ryzen 5 1600X 6 core (3.6 Ghz Base / 4.0 Ghz Precision Boost)

Asus GEForce GTX 1070ti Graphics Card (8Gb)

32 Gb Installed memory

Any help would be appreciated as I am stuck at this quest.

are you running vortex?

what coastal cottage mod is it?

[Edit] I also did some checking. It turns out that Garvey can send you to that location as one of his never-ending radiant quests. If you've been taking any of his quests, make absolutely sure that you don't have the place for both factions. Otherwise you can't complete the quest with PAM.

Any mods that affect turrets, or coastal cottage?

Tried removing all mods that change turrets and Coastal Cottage, does not help, if it was a mod surely it would effect ALL settlements not just Coastal Cottage.

Along w/the other advice - I noticed one thing.

I'm going to take a leap of faith here and think that you did NOT start a new game when you " ... tried removing all mods ... "?

Reason - Some mods are scripted and the scripts do not just vanish when you do this. To find out IF it's a mod, it's time for the P.I.T.A. Protocol.

IF you use NMM, disable all mods and start a new game, yes a new game.

Use the console command to go to Coastal Cottage.

~

player.additem 00225965 1 (this gives you The Wazer Wifle. You'll need it. )

player.additem c1897 250 ( this gives you ammo for the Wazer Wifle. You'll need it. )

tgm ( Toggles God Mode and trust me you will need it.)*

coc POIMCamp01 < - enter

You should automatically be transported to Coastal Cottage.

Kill the Raider / Raiders and the Mirelurks. Now you have control of the workshop.

But wait, I don't have inventory to build!!???????

No, no ... save game and exit. DO NOT TURN ON ANY MODS YET.

Install one of these temp or not? Mods. * Temp is if you should choose to keep using them.

All Crafting Materials Batch File
or ... I like this mod, much easier:
Cheat Terminal <- This one is my fav. :D
Either one will allow you to have the materials to begin building. Depending on which one you use, the Bat ( Batch ) file will require you to put the file into your:
... < dir > \ Steam \ SteamApps \ common \Fallout 4 < directory >
The Cheat Terminal will require you to activate it and only this mod and give yourself the required materials and start building.
BEFORE YOU BUILD - RESAVE THE GAME WITH ONLY THE CHEAT TERMINAL ( SHOULD YOU USE THAT ONE ) AND DO ** NOT ** OVERWRITE OR DELETE IT.
Now, do the turrets build and set without CTD / FREEZING????
IF it builds just fine, then sorry, you have a mod that is conflicting with Coastal Cottage.
I will write further instructions if you need them. Will be watching this thread. :)

I will give this a go on Wednesday, I am in Manchester tomorrow so will not be able to look.

Might be easier to try the following first. Get a save game before you've travelled to coastal cottage. Making sure the game has not already generated the area. Remove all mods from the game. Go to Coastal cottage. Try to build turret.

Also, don't use vortex.

Also wanna add that cheat terminal can give you the required perks necessary to build. Not just the needed materials.

it can also give you decent vanilla weapons, armor, and ammo. As well as stimpacks if you need them for the fight.

Tho, there's also the console command killall. :eyeroll: :D

Not entirely sure, maybe cheat terminal has a variation of that too.

Agreed 100%. Don't use Vortex.

But, remove all mods first, then load the previous save game, then travel to Coastal ;)
