Fallout 4 Keeps Crashing at Random Periods of Time

Hello, I have recently downloaded around 150 new mods to Fallout 4, most of which are smaller "quality of life" mods. However, I have a few large expansion and environment mods which could be causing issues. The main issue I am noticing is a crash to desktop at random intervals of time and sometimes even a complete freeze of my computer if it stops responding. Here is my load order:

I apologize for the ridiculously long order. Now are there any conflictions that might occur with this order? Are there any plugins that are known to directly cause issues in the game (i.e. crashing, freezing, etc)? Thank you for your patience!

Post you CPU; RAM and GPU instead and add large chunks of text or pictures between

tags, please. I currently have 659 mods running without any crashes (yet) so it's either a mod conflict or the GPU runs out of RAM.

First thing I would try is run the game without the 'Conquest' mod. That one is okay but clashes with several other mods when you don't have patches for it.

Alright, it seemed like doing each step in this order helped fix the weird freezing and crashing at random intervals for a decent period of time:

1. Restart your computer

2. Run Fallout through the Steam Launcher (not F4SE)

3. Run it in windowed

4. Load an older save, at least 10 minutes before the crash

5. Exit to desktop

6. Run it again, this time through the F4SE launcher

Although this might not look like an "official" fix, this is the step-by-step process I went through every time it crashed or froze and my game ran stable for a decently long game session. But yeah, I'll check out the Conquest patches.

My specs in case it is still relevant:

CPU: Ryzen r7 2700 | RAM: 32gb ddr4 3200 | GPU: gtx 1070ti

I will throw out an idea that I recently had ...

Double check those MODS that require FO4-SE and make sure you are totally up to date. I found 1 mod that was not and it was a Script Error that built up to a CTD. I did have to start over w/a new game - as the script started a corruption breakdown in the saved game.

Another thing that I am noticing about your load order (LO)

You have both files for the Beretta 92FS. Both are not needed. Pick one, and remove the other. I personally would remove the .esl version, because it can't be shifted in your LO. The only reason the download for the ESL version is required is because that download has the folders containing the ba2 archives in it.

Another thing is that your LO really needs some sorting out. You've got your categories all mixed together, and some of them should be taking higher priority in your LO than others.

Functional Displays is out of order. It needs to have the primary .esp file before the others. That mod has also been known to cause CTDs.

Tho I myself have never had an issue with it, via a manual install. So it might be because of conflicts or a bad install.

NO idea whatsoever that TEST mod is.

You're trying to load the UMP patch files way far ahead of the UMP weapon mod.

3dscopes you have a couple of patches trying to load before the mod itself.

This is why I don't like modmanagers. If you're using one, you need to go back in and double check what's going on, after it installs the mods. Cuz your load ORDER is way out of whack.

Thank you for the suggestions guys. I tried using LOOT and it detected no conflicts, I did that a while ago. I will also check out the various redundant and incorrectly sorted plugins. The whack sorting might just be me and my laziness with downloading certain mods. Another thing I noticed was that most of my crashes occur around locations that have been added by other mods such as Beantown Interiors, Atomic World, and MoreXplore, just an observation...

Update: I have done everything that you guys mentioned and am still experiencing common CTDs. I notice that most of them also occur when I either load a save, when the game itself autosaves, when I load a cell, or when a large entity or object loads. I still don't know what to make of this. For now, I am certain it is not a LO problem...

I'll try to start a new game and run some troubleshooting on various mods. For now, I am very sure it is the location mods, or mods that add new cells that are causing issues. I won't go quiet on this.

Hey again Sam.

Glad that you're starting to get the load order straightened out :)

If you are experiencing crashes while the game is saving, you might as well just delete the save that it just made. I'd guestimate that about 90% of the time the game crashes out before completing the save file. Meaning that it's not usable because it's not saved properly. Which is probably at least 1 reason why you're also crashing when trying to load those save files.

Crashing out while writing the save is also usually an indication that you have savegame corruption, as there's info in the file that it can't write. That's not always the case but if you notice it happening a LOT on that character, I'm sorry to say that it won't get better. :(

Just from some of the examples that you gave, if you're running any mods that do revamp the map extensively, such as beantown interiors, or more exploration, unless they state that they are compatible or have been patched.... I can't advise playing with multiple mods like that, or combining them with mods that change other cells of the map.

It's just too hard to say who changed what, and if those changes work together. The latter includes new settlement mods too.

Another thing that I will go ahead and ask. Are you starting the game with your full LO set for active? Or are you waiting until you get out of the vault and let everything load up, before you go full active LO?

One other thing I do want to mention, since you mention loading. There's a difference between a crash during a load, where the game just vanishes, such as a CTD, theres also a partial crash/lock... where it vanishes but is still running in the background (you can usually still hear the music) and it's still in the list in task manager, or there is Infinte Load Screen (ILS) where the screen just goes black and won't ever finish loading. Sometimes it's important to specify that, because sometimes they can have different reasons.
