Why Won't SkyUI Run

I have waisted litterly hundreds of hours trying to get SkyUI to work. So many mods require SkyUI that I keep trying to get it to work. It tells me that it won't run because it can't find the script extender. I'm certain that the script extender is loaded correctly having check and rechecked the load instructions several dozen times. So please don't refer me to the Script Extender load instructions. By now I know them by heart.

From some comments I Googled I understand that there is a version number mismatch between whatever SkyUI is looking for and the latest Script Extender version number. I have no Idea what SkyUI looks at to determine if the Script Extender is running.

Other than SkyUI, I don't know of any way to verify that the script extender is actually working. My question is this, are there some other ways to verify that the script extender is working?

Judging by the fact you didn't read the sticky about not asking for help on mods in the Newbies forum, I bet there's other stuff you didn't exactly read and that's why stuff doesn't work. You're also not saying which game you're talking about.

If you have a problem with a mod, look on that mod's pages and if your problem isn't mentioned ask a question there or go to the game's fora and check and eventually post there.

If you want to know if the script extender is working, start the game and even during the main menu, open the game's console and type getxxseversion where the "xx" is the game you're playing, like skse for Skyrim, f4se for Fallout 4, etc. Normally, when you have mods installed that depend on the script extender and the script extender isn't working, the game will tell you or it will crash during start-up. The game will also alert you on start-up if there's a mismatch between script extender version and the version a certain mod needs

I admit I missed that sticky. :ermm: Your glasses probably work better than mine do :geek: It is hard for me to read anything.

I'm playing SkyrimSE. You mean the tab labeled "Forum" on the mods page, That will be a lot easier. Thanks.

I'm not familiar with opening the game's console. How do I do that? Since I'm playing SkyrimSE I would type "getskseseversion". Am I putting to many "se" in there?

A few times it has alerted me to a version mismatch but it usually just tells me, when it gives me a notification, that the extender isn't working.

That console command sounds promising. By opening the game's console I take it your not referring to the "Type here to search" window on the task bar.

Thanks for your responce.

The developers console is a way to get at the core of the game through developer's commands and it opens when hitting the 'Tilde' key (the key left of the '1' key underneath 'Esc' or the key right of the 'L' key (which is the 'M' on an Azerty keyboard. I'm used to Azerty but my G19 keyboard gave the ghost and I bought a Querty one on eBay and then set it to 'Belgium' to use Azerty which is highly confusing as some games -like FO4- don't care about the setting and use the Querty setting since that's what the game recognises. On my Querty used as Azerty but seen as Querty, the console key is the one to the right of the 'L' key where it used to be the one left of '1')).

And yes, there's a pair of 'se' too many in your example. It's getskseversion.

The console is nothing fancy, just a blinking cursor bottom left of the screen in a mildly blurry see-through overlay that covers the bottom half of the screen. Make sure you open the game's ini file (at Documents/My Games/Fallout4) has the bAllowConsole= set to '1' under [General]. If it's '0' then the console is disabled. Not Fallout4Custom.ini or Fallout4Prefs.ini but simply Fallout4.ini.

LOL. That worked. It showed me the correct SKSE version number. So the script extender is working and SkyUI just isn't finding it. I don't think there is anything I can do about that. Vortex installed the two SkyUI files in the correct folder. I'll just have to live without it.

Personally, I don't trust Vortex any further than I can see. I've used it for around six weeks and went back to Nexus Mod Manager. The latter is simple and gives me no headaches. I mean, I had a completely working mod load in NMM and when using it through Vortex, the game (FO4) crashed on initial load even before the game's choice menu. Same for SSE.

I installed NMM. GitHub wouldn't let me create an account. It wouldn't accept any password I entered. I can't update NMM to the latest version.

I think we are done here. Thanks, you have been a big help.

getskseversion doesnt tell you if skse64 has been installed correctly(and isnt working).

So your still trying to get it to work. All i can suggest is to post in the SKYUI SE mods page and give as much info as you can.Which version of skse64 did you download from silverlock dot org etc.

You could try MO2 which is far better than NMM,and just as easy to use.Just install SKUI and skse64 only and try to get it to work before adding any other mods.

Install skse64 manually like we talked about in the other thread but just copy and paste the 61 pex scripts into the games data/scripts folder .

It is good to hear from you again my friend.

I installed MO2 as you suggested. Vortex told me to unlink Vortex from my load list and relink it to MO2. I unlinked my list from vortex but I couldn't find the equivalent option in MO2 to link it to my load list. Could you tell me where that is?

This part gets a little craze. When I started the game again, this time through MO2, SkyUI gave me the usual error message that the script extender wasn't found and that SkyUI was disabled. I used that console command again to check my script extender and this time it confirmed that the script extender wasn't working. But now in the game I'm getting the inventory screens that SkyUI does. SkyUI is now working. Weird!

And the console still says that the extender isn't working. Checking my mods, SkyUI has been reactivated.

Maybe you can make some sense of that. I can't.

MO2 doesnt use hardcoded links like vortex, it uses a virtual file system to trick the game into thinking that mods are in the games data folder-but are actually stored in another folder outside of the game.

So installed mods dont show in skyrims data folder, unless you manually install a mod like skse64.

Uninstall vortex it may cause problems with MO2.

MO2 needs to be running when you play the game and skse64 should be added to MO2.

To left of run button at top right ,theres a program selection box-click the down arrow/select edit you can create a link to the skse executable in there.Binary is where you navigate to the skse64_loader.exe that you manually installed into the skyrim se folder. When you want to play select SKSE from the list and press the run button.

Does the SKUI settings MCM show up in the games mod configuration settings? If it does that means skui/skse are working.I dont know about console feedback,as i said that command is useless for determining if skse is working and properly installed. It finds the version and thats it.
