embdude
Im saving for a new macbook but have to make my current one last about a year longer... I run a NMM moded skyrim through steam on a 100gb windows 7 partition... it is about 95% full I have a portable SSD that is usb3 (sandisk extreme, 550 mb/s) So I figure my options are: A. move skyrim and NMM to the SSD and have steam run from there B. Move Steam & Skyrim & NMM to the SSD C. Clone the partition and boot from the SSD D. Just reinstall and start fresh... Leave steam on 100gb partition or move to external SSD? What do you think is best or better yet the easiest option?? Thanks! Edited March 31, 2020 by embdude
IsharaMeradin
Remove some unused stuff? Off load "non-essential" files such as music, photos, etc to flash drives or CDs (if you have a CD / DVD writer). Uninstall games that you are not currently playing or modding but keep the save files and such intact in case you do want to go back later. If you have any old unused laptops lying around, re-purpose those hard drives. If you have a desktop, install them as secondary drives. If you have a laptop, pick up some fairly inexpensive enclosures and convert them into external USB drives, provided you have the ports to do so. I cannot speak to the specific options you have laid out. I have had no experience with an SSD as of yet. Just thought I'd toss out some ideas that might help free up or increase your space capacity. Good luck.
embdude
Thanks. I think I will just wipe everything out and re install the steam games and MO2 on a SSD...
JimmyRJump
Never run games and Steam off of an external drive, SSD or otherwise. USB3 is fast, but extreme lag will occur and the game will crash because load times take too long.
M48A5
A question comes up that has not been asked, how are you running a Windows game on a MacBook?
