Mods you always wanted to do (But won't due to the effort)

What are mods you could and want to do yet the sheer effort is letting you "save it for later"

As for me:

Rocket Monsters - Instead of grenades there are Rokeballs and there are Rokemonsters for every faction (Dogs for raiders, Mirelurks for the Harbormen, etc...)

Alternate main quest / main quest independent faction questlines. (To allow for a more "free" RP - Experience ...)

That's not too difficult from a technical point, but I am not creative in any way, so I am waiting with that for when I get some ideas ...

(And it will be a huge ammount of work.)

a full overhaul of the main game including changes like:

-Preston becoming the leader of the Minutemen when you decline and wondering if even has the ability to do so with a series of quests that can be completed with him to convince him he can do it and depending on choices made will influence the Minutemen's behavior and attitude towards other factions and the player as well as general outlook.

-Remove the player voiced lines and broaden the choices available to the player in dialog (you won't be forced to talk to every jackwagon you find about your kid just to move along the plot)

-expand on the 2.5-dimensional companions into fully 3-dimensional companions with actual dialog exchanges altering their choices. (so instead of Cait just out of nowhere deciding to go clean as though the player and her have been having discussions about it you will actually have these discussions)

-Fix the Brotherhood of Nazi Steel so they return to being the Brohood of Steel complete with the Lyons

-Bring back realistic and believable guns instead of weirdly big and bulky nonsense we have in the base game (the assault rifle becoming a support weapon and the actual assault rifle from FO3 retaking its place)

-Vending machines will be returned to their original appearance (along with everything else)

-and much much more

Moddable grenades. Ever wanted a grenade that when it goes off doesn't alert the whole area? well look no longer just slap a suppressor on that thing and it will reduce the sound level enough you can stealthily blow up al your enemies! tired of not being able to get that grenade where you need it cuz you just can't aim it right? well, no worries there we got you covered just throw an 8x scope on that bad boy for all your aiming needs!

Nice ideas ...

And speaking of weapons:

Use a key on the keyboard to switch between "single shot" and "automatic", because it is just annoying. I mean I kind of understand it with the makeshift improvised weapons. If I were to build an improvised gun, I would make it easy and reliable and not worry about adding some extra mechanism for a selector switch.

But I don't even want to attempt a mod like that because in my experience, everything that has to do with the UI is not really "moddable".

Also, it really confuses me that you need to be higher level to craft a suppressor for a gun, then for making a new receiver.

Just from a mechanical standpoint that doesn't make sense. It is far less complicated to create a makeshift suppressor ...

But that is a mod that I might actually make soon ... (so it technically does not belong here ...)

Sorry for the rant ...

I would like to create a PUBG/Nuclear Winter type Battle Royale in the FO4 Commonwealth.

I already created Instant Battleground as a proof of concept for that.

Yes the game engine support for real time combat is really slow and crappy, but I love the environment.

Challenge is that the game engine support for actor combat AI is too limited, even with my combat AI scripts or Pack Attack chowing up Papyrus resource, its like playing against rocks compared to modern combat bots which can jump, prone, strafe mantle & etc.

Some kind of complete overhaul to the way radiation works. Adding back a radiation meter and adding random tailor made mutation perks depending on for how long you were exposed to heavy dosis of radiation. Maybe some kind of gasmask/protection gear system to go with it.

Oh, yes, absolutely!

Completely overhaul how radiation works, especially how it "passes" through walls in the vanilla game is really annoying.

Like if a half meter thick concrete wall is between the player and a radiation source, that would make it much less intense then half a meter of air.

(The game currently does not take that into account, just "distance to source", not material in between player and source)

100% complete removal of the settlement/workshop mechanic with several existing settlement locations replaced with developed communities filled with lore, merchants and quests, along the lines of Arefu, Canterbury Commons, Primm, Novac, Shady Sands, etc. Places where the "fun" already exists, rather than having to build it yourself.

That's why I like modding!

Everybody can do what they want, nobody is "forced" to like the things that others are doing / want to do.

I wouldn't download a mod like that.

Personally I like the settlement stuff. It makes me feel like I have an impact on the in-game world and it makes the world feel less "static".

Yes, there is less "lore" compared to actual "pre-built" places, but you can't have everything ... (I mean you could, but it would take much more development time ... )

(FO4 is the first Fallout game that I played)

But like I said, to each their own ...

My ultimate goal as an aspiring mod author is to make it possible to transform yourself into a super mutant female using the requirements laid out in the atomic beauty super mutant female preset as the appearance you'd become.

I don't know anything about papyrus or any kind of scripting, and can only make very minor edits currently in that regard [like changing booleans]

It seems like what I want to do is largely wrapped up in scripting.

I've managed to make a glowing sea location where the player can go to find an experimental purified FEV serum. I've got it fast travel ready, world map marker ready, interior-exterior teleport-ready, and some basic lvldlist encounters and simple set dressing set up. I've traveled to the location and verified it doesn't cause any crashes on its own - and interior/exterior transitions yield no problems, and interior has no bugs.

I don't yet know how to make that serum a consumable, and apply uncurable stat, health, and action point penalties for a specific time duration after consuming it. I don't yet know how to trigger a transformation into a new race with its own custom appearance after a specific time period, especially with a fade-to-black right before.

I don't yet know how to make the game check the player's endurance level upon consuming the serum and apply a random chance of sudden death if endurance is not at a minimum level, over a specific time period.

I wanted this mod to make its massive perks a risk you have to decide you're willing to take. 3 days of suffering excruciating pain as expressed through massive stat penalties and general weakness and fatigue, and if you're really weak, potentially death. Survive this, and in exchange on day 4 you experience being a perfect super soldier with all of the benefits of a perfected super mutant. These benefits include: 10 strength, 5 endurance, radiation immunity, disease immunity, max unarmed perk, max toughness perk, max strong back perk, double jump height, double swim speed, double run/walk speed, mild HP regeneration, increased AP regeneration, and 500 HP/350 AP to start with.

You cannot fast travel from the interior or exterior of my location, and the suffering can't just be cured away by a doctor [i can probably look into the vault 81 molerat disease for that effect.] You cannot wait while suffering, nor can you sleep. So you'll just have to wander around, avoiding death or encased in power armor until your transformation time has ticked. I think I know how to make an effect that prevents waiting and prevents sleep - but I'm not sure. As for timing, I have no idea how to do that except that it must be a scripting thing.

I also don't know how to set up custom voiced dialogue between the player and generic humanoid npcs commenting on their super mutant appearance, especially with the opportunity for the player to actually respond to questions and criticism. I do however know how to edit voice lines to make new sentences.

I wanted the world to actually immersively react to the player being a super mutant - not acting like it's still Nora, just in a costume. Diamond City guards, for example, should attempt to either shout at you to turn around and get lost [with weapons drawn at you], or, if they're more brave, forcegreet you and ask what you're doing near a human city. Random settlers and townies should have idle dialogue commenting about you - both positively and negatively. Unique NPCs that talk about super mutants, or non-humans, should be able to mention your appearance.

My ultimate goal was to have a super mutant female that can not only look and feel like a super mutant, but identify as one too - with two versions depending on how far the player wanted to take it. version 1, player transforms, the whole world shits themselves at the sight of the player and shoots on sight. version 2, player transforms, the whole world stops and stares, utterly perplexed at a super mutant with clearly feminine curves, feminine voice, and not-ugly-face roaming around.

It's very ambitious - and so far as a novice it's beyond my abilities to fully realize - but it's something I plot away at a little at a time every day.

I'm constantly looking up youtube videos on how to do things - currently doing everything in my power to learn how dialogue works so I can finally put all these edited voice lines into the game. Every day I learn a little more, and get that much closer.
