Vel8891
Hi All, I bought Skyrim Special Edition this week, and first followed the "SKYRIM : SPECIAL EDITION 2019 GRAPHICS TUTORIAL 100 Mods Edition" on Predcaliber (highly recommendable). The list below list contains all mods currently installed. Apart from Loot, are there any other essential mods I am missing? Anything which would e.g. optimize textures, update the character creation screen (which is terrible) etc.? Thanks for helping out a newbie and stay safe! Deleted54170User
Mod Organizer 2 is good. It has a loot sort link so you're sure the games mods are ready to play. Some thing to keep in mind is, everytime you change a mod for another with the same theme, e.g., like a weather mod, you need to start the game with your character in a small room, then Save the game. Relosd the game with your new save. And as the french word suggests. Voila' you're set to go and play without as much trouble as a CTD or a Identical meshes, textures mod grabbing extra VRAM or RAM causing your FPS: Frames Per Second to slow one Bit. cumbrianlad
I'd ask on the forum for Skyrim Special edition. Apart from that I'd advise you to play the vanilla game for a time and then decide what sort of thing you'd like in the game. That's the best way to find out what sort of mods you'd like. You could have the best mod in the world for mage characters, for example, but I wouldn't personally download them because I don't like playing as a mage! It's hard to advise anyone so generally about lots of mods That said, one mod that I don't see in the list is Static Mesh Improvement Mod (SMIM). I wouldn't be without it. It improves the appearance of a whole load of unsightly meshes* and is customizable for your machine, so you can choose what you want to improve without slowing the game down. Again, it's best to play the vanilla game for a while, so that you are better placed to decide what parts of SMIM you want to instal. * meshes are the 3D models for everything you see in the game, in case you didn't know. Skyrim uses a lot of low poly meshes, so that round objects can look very 'blocky'. SMIM adds more polygons and better textures to a load of meshes to make them look more realistic. JimmyRJump
I've had a look at Mod Organiser 2 but found it to be too complicated and went for the then mod manager made for Nexus, the Nexus Mod Manager (NMM). Hit the link in my sig for the latest download. NMM has manual integration of BodySlide, LOOT and xEdit and is the simplest of the available mod manager. Been using it close to ten years to my utmost satisfaction. Don't use Vortex if you want to stay clear of trouble. LOOT is not a mod but a tool to sort your plugins into a more or less okay order. It's not performing magic and some mods will have to be sorted manually still. There's no way we can tell you what mods are essential. What may be essential for me can be highly disliked by someone else. As such, the best way to find out what's essential is by using a lot of different mods in several play-throughs and decide for yourself.
cumbrianlad
JimmyRJump, I was interested by the comment to steer clear of Vortex. I used to use NMM but switched to Vortex. What problems are you referring to? I haven't noticed anything but maybe some issues I've had are related and I didn't realise.
