Is there a mod size limit like there is for consoles? i think consoles have 2 or 3gb space for mods. I am not talking about plugins in your load order. I know that is 255 esps. I am talking about when you load the game up and look at your load order from the main menu, you will see how many GB's of mods you have, it will tell you the total, similar to consoles. I am wondering if you get to a certain point where it affects performance a lot, I am currently at 12 GB of mods so i'm wondering what experience others might have, it still launches and runs but wondering if anyone has ever gotten to a point where it seriously degraded their performance by reaching a certain threshold of GB.

thanks for the reply, and you're talking about the total GB, like shown here in this pic in the center upperhand of the image - - - https://imgur.com/a/VaTp6Ee

and not something else(like your mods folder in MO2 or something), correct?

Yeah, the 40+ gig is my entire install directory. That includes the game files. :)

your install directory is not what I mean. I have an almost 60 gb install directory, my mods folder in Mod Organizer 2 is 58gb and the actual Fallout 4 game install folder is another 35 gb in "steam\steamapps\common" folder. I am talking about in game, the size it tells you in game, like I linked in the pic, in the mods menu after you've launched the game, when you go to your load order from that mods menu, it tells you another size, mine is 12 gb right now, as it shows in the pic I linked. This is the same number they show on consoles when console players load up their load order through the same menu in game, and they have a 2 or 3 gb limit. I am wondering if this has a limit on PC too, 20, 30, 40 gb? or is there no cap? Even if there were no cap, I imagine at some point performance of the game would suffer the more you fill this up, which is why I am wondering what people's experience is with this number, if they ever reached a point with this number where their performance in game suffered the higher this number got, say reaching 15 or 20, or higher GB.

There is no limit. None. Zero. But yes, there IS a practical limit, and that varies by what hardware folks run. There a are a LOT of folks that hit 255 plugin limit, before they start running into throughput issues due to the number of files. So, if you have decent hardware, you should be fine, regardless of what you do. Of course, marginal hardware will show the strain sooner.

I'm running a 2.5 i5 16 core CPU, Nvidia 1660 super 6GB video card, 32 gigs of ram, 1tb sse c:\ drive, 4tb storage drive, both internal drives. Can anyone tell me what my mod limit is for Fallout 4 and Skyrim SE? I have tried modding these games and have failed EVERY time. I could really use some help.

With that rig you have no effective limit beyond the 255 ESP limit. It's not the amount of mods that is causing you problems, it's either not installing them properly or not managing the load order so that your mods are stable.
