I was in the chat room asking how to get updates for skyrim, because i see that a lot of mods need the 1.8 or whatever.

So i went into the chat room and asked how to get them. they said steam updates it automatically, an i said i didnt get it through steam.

I was kicked from the chat room before i could reply with a second message saying i got it from wal mart. I know you can buy it from the steam store so that is why i said i didnt get it from steam i got it from wal mart :/

I didnt know that if you got the game from wal mart that it went through steam still, im not the one that installed it...

so now im blocked from the chat room...

so yeah...help?

Skyrim should comes pre-loaded with Steam and is installed along with it for activation. If you don't have Steam, you probably don't have a legit retail box.

i had the box, not sure where it is at at this moment, gonna go look for it i guess. it was my bf who installed it for me. i was not at home at the time of installation.

its no big deal if im not allowd back in the chat room, i wasnt a regular there, but will i still be able to use peoples mods on here?

Steam should install automatically with any legitimate copy of Skyrim, yes. However, Steam won't always be set up to automatically keep your game up to date. Mine wasn't when I first installed the game. You find the update options in Steam under the Library tab, not in Skyrim itself. Right click on Skyrim, then find Properties at the bottom. That'll open a window with a very obvious Updates tab. Make sure the dropdown list has the options "Always keep this game up to date" selected.

Always install the game yourself so that you know what is being put onto your computer and that'll allow you to become familiar with what the game is using. If you installed it yourself, then you would have had to launch the game via steam, and so on so forth.
