galahadIII
I'm at wits end so thought I'd post this and get help. I did find some articles and posts but none of them really address the issue or my specific problem. Decided to play Oblivion after many yrs. Yesterday I had vortex running fine, d-loaded some mods using vortex, others i installed manually. Everything seemed ok until I tried running the game to test the mods and found a blatant error with something called blockhead, which in turn related to OBSE not being installed properly. I fiddled around with it for a few hrs and lost patience. Today i watched a few vids about OBSE and after a fresh oblivion install, finally got it working only to run into vortex issues . All the mods that seemed to install fine yesterday are suddenly giving me an error about admin permissions something to do with vortex needing access. (approx text is [Window Title]Access denied [Content]Vortex needs to access "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\data\Unofficial Oblivion Patch.esp" but doesn't have permission to. If your account has admin rights Vortex can try to unlock the file for you. [Cancel] [Retry] [Give permission] all options but cancel loop over and over. I'm at a loss as to why this is happening all of a sudden. Is it OBSE? do I have to re-download all the mods and try a fresh install of them? I've never run into any problems with vortex before so I'm confused.
HadToRegister
You shouldn't install Games or pretty much ANYTHING into the Program Files (x86) or Program Files folders because Windows protects those folders so zealously that it prevents things from working properly. Also, be sure to check that the Oblivion mods are packaged properly, some are really old, and packaged right about the time that Mod Managers just started to come out.I spent a week downloading and repackaging mods to work with Vortex for my own use.My article here Vortex and Oblivion an ExperimentGo to your SETTINGS---------->MODS-------> and make sure that in DEPLOYMENT METHOD, that HRDLINK DEPLOYMENT is selected.Don't run Vortex as an Administrator, and don't run OBSE as an Administrator either. What happens is people set their STEAM or Script Extender or Game EXE to run as administrator and then the run into Permission/Elevation problems, and don't realize they have something in the chain that's set to Run as Administrator.
