Vortex keeps restoring files I delete.

I'm downloading and testing new mods to decide which I like and which are buggy so I don't want them. When I delete through vortex they stay in the folder. So I manually delete them but they seem to keep returning. I don't think this is steam because it never happened before. How do I make it stop?

CAPS for Emphasis, I'm not angry

How are you Deleting these Mods?

Also, which Folder are they staying in after you Delete them?

More information is needed.

I'm going to hazard a guess, based on what little information there is, is that you're either Deleting them "Through Vortex" by picking "REMOVE" and then just using the "REMOVE MOD" option, rather than also picking the "DELETE ARCHIVE" option, so they are staying in the DOWNLOAD FOLDER, which is perfectly fine.

-OR-

As you said, you're manually Deleting the mods OUTSIDE of Vortex, (Which you should NEVER do with ANY mod manager) so Vortex keeps restoring the mod because it has no idea what has happened to it.

I delete them through vortex but they stay in the folder. I remove them from the Data folder because I try similar ones and dont' want confusion over which is which. They just keep returning. Once in a while vortex will ask me if I want them deleted but they seem to come back. They keep returning to the data folder. I was trying to delete them before I started a new game. But they end up back in there because vortex doesn't seem to know that. I will try the archive way next game.

I don't see a delete archive option

I found it. TY

No, I think you're confused about how Hardlinks/Symlinks and mod managers work.

You should NEVER delete/move/add files outside of the Mod Manager.

You can delete all you want from the Game\Data folder, but if you're using a Mod Manager, you SHOULD NOT BE DOING THAT, because the files aren't actually IN your Data Game folder.

Don't ever Manually delete what you believe are Mods Inside your Game Data folder, if you installed them with a mod manager, because the actual, physical mod actually exists in the MOD STAGING FOLDER

This is how it works

What is happening to you, is, you keep Deleting Mods in the "Game Data Folder" in the graphic above, while the files in the Mod Staging Folder still exist, so the Mod Manager keeps restoring them over and over and over again.

I'm curious as to why you keep manually deleting Mods and Files manually rather than using the Mod Manager, that you used to install them, to actually uninstall them?
