Cylano
I played through this dlc not long ago and found it to be overwhelmingly boring. I also found the spoils at the end to be pretty poor. I'd love to see if my opinion is unique or in fact shared. Rate and slate!
Deleted3507349User
To me it's just a gauntlet, same as Lonesome Road. Not my kind of thing. I enjoyed Honest Hearts and absolutely love Old World Blues. I can't wait to get the puppy gun for my new character!
Deleted4709949User
I didn't like any of the DLC they were too easy even on hardcore mode without god mode...but my favorite DLC is gun runner's arsenal. formalrevya
I played through this dlc not long ago and found it to be overwhelmingly boring. I also found the spoils at the end to be pretty poor. I'd love to see if my opinion is unique or in fact shared. Rate and slate! Everyone pretty much hates Dead Money, but most people have different reasons. For me personally, my big glaring issue was the collar. The radio boxes were sometimes next to impossible to find which led to repeatedly having to reload after they blew your head off, or desperately running through an area without getting a chance to look. the entire point of the mod was to mix things up and make you rely more on your wits and abilities than your guns. It's why all of the weapons found in sierra madre are so terrible ((Save one or two)) and why you have to scrounge for everything.I get that and it's cool that they tried something different. And the story itself wasn't terribly bad. It's something you have to play through a few times and change things around to see the nuances of though. But, Still hated it, solely because of the collar issue. And yes, it was a bit boring.
CelerasRingor
I didn't hate it at all in fact its my favorite DLC. I don't see why people find the collars so frustrating as the radios aren't even that hard to avoid. Everyone just expects everything to be super easy. Deleted4709949User
i don't expect everything to be super easy in fact the other way around but then i'm proven wrong and i'm like so what's next?that's what i felt with FNV and its dlc when i beat them except GRA and courier's stash of course since they aren't really story-driven DLC's they just add stuff to the game... dree74
OP is not alone. I made a mod "Skip DLC - Dead Money" and you can find many comments such as "thank you for making this!!" http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/42155 In my opinion, Dead Money has a good story telling and engaging NPCs; however, its major problem lies in "gameplay & effects". When I was playing Dead Money for the first time, the death collar, poison cloud, undeads, all these were part of challenges. Enjoyed and Finished. Unlike other RPGs, Fallout New Vegas is a game that makes me replay over and over, by the time I was replaying Dead Money for 12th times, the storylines and fascinating NPCs mattered very little, and the "challenges" were more like annoyance. Also, staring at pure red background for more than an hour would defintely sore your eyes. (ref: http://www.colormatters.com/color-and-vision/color-and-vision-matters). In my case, it took me about an hour and half until I enter the hotel in Dead Money. tl-dr: Dead Money was a good DLC, just not something to replay over and over like Old World Blues or Point Lookout. TrickyVein
Dead Money is by far the best DLC I've played. I'll tell you why: It's emphasis on gameplay. The environment was constructed following design principles to make the player feel claustrophobic and disoriented. In other words, form followed function. It's not like Zion, which seems to have been made purely for the visuals and then gameplay was an afterthought. It introduced new environmental hazards which were challenging and forced the player out of his comfort zone. If you don't appreciate or see the connection between difficulty (and there are good kinds and bad kinds) and rewarding gameplay then you probably wouldn't have liked Dead Money. It was a survival-horror experience and made you feel vulnerable again which is exactly what I want in an RPG. Moreover, the environmental obstacles are way more fun to avoid and provide a different challenge than just shooting at something until it's dead. I moment I stopped caring about playing Honest Hearts, or Lonesome Road, was when I was put up against enemies with stupidly large amounts of health or high DT and it reminded me instantly of playing Doom and shooting at demons that just wouldn't die. That's boring. I think the story and the dialogue was great, and the art-deco design of the Sierra Madre was well executed. I like the assasin suit. The new weapons really weren't that great. Talwyn224
II agree with TrickyVein's post in that Dead Money was quite a challenge on the 1st play through, especially if you avoided sneaking ahead for spoilers or using any cheat modes via console commands. I also would say it induced the unmistakable feeling of RAGE-QUIT among many players for various reason like that dam collar blowing your head off repeatedly because you just could find the speaker or avoid it in time. Having all your previous gear stripped from you and being forced to rely on what was at hand increased the challenge and as such makes it one of the best DLC's IMO. Honest Hearts was the least interesting DLC [and the easiest to beat] and Lonesome Road was a total let down. Old World Blues was amusing and actually had a decent story behind it plus intriguing NPC's to interact with. But the best part of Dead Money was the moral of the tale: it's about letting go. Yes there are ways to get all the gold in the vault but seriously, does anyone think its at all humanly possible to carrying over a 1000lbs of gold at all? Just take what you can and leave the rest. Let it go and learn that it's about being able to walk away from it and not let your desire for all the loot doom you. It's more rewarding knowing you've trapped Elijah in the Vault, dooming him to a slow and painful death plus making sure all the other companions walk away alive as well.
