Firerecon34
Hello. I have had this problem for months and tried to fix it several times, but I either gave up or couldn't find the solution. The problem I am having is a crash on startup that manifests itself as a small black window in the upper-left hand corner of the screen and then disappears after clicking "Play" in the launcher. I have disabled mods to check and see which one might have been the culprit but that never worked. I even had the crash after disabling all mods and only leaving the Oblivion master files and official DLC files checked. At one point, I was told on another forum to install COBL since most of my mods seems to require it, but doing so also did nothing. I can't say I know where to go next, and I hope that if someone is willing, they might help me. Here is my load order: 00 Oblivion.esm01 EnhancedWeather.esm [Version 1.4.4]02 Oscuro's_Oblivion_Overhaul.esm [Version 1.5.11]03 Cobl Main.esm [Version 1.72]04 VVAdvanced.esm [Version 1.00]05 Cobl Glue.esp [Version 1.72]06 Cobl Tweaks.esp [Version 1.44]07 Unofficial Oblivion Patch.esp [Version 3.5.0]08 Oblivion Citadel Door Fix.esp09 UOP Vampire Aging & Face Fix.esp [Version 1.0.0]0A DLCShiveringIsles.esp0B Cobl Si.esp [Version 1.63]0C Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch.esp [Version 1.5.2]0D DLCHorseArmor.esp0E DLCOrrery.esp0F DLCVileLair.esp10 DLCMehrunesRazor.esp11 DLCSpellTomes.esp12 DLCThievesDen.esp13 DLCBattlehornCastle.esp14 DLCFrostcrag.esp15 Knights.esp16 USIPS Additional Changes.esp17 Oscuro's_Oblivion_Overhaul.esp [Version 1.5.10]18 UOPS Additional Changes.esp19 Book Jackets Oblivion.esp1A The Lost Spires.esp1B Adventurers Guild.esp1C BAKAdventurerTorch.esp1D BetterExplosions.esp1E Disable Quest Marker.esp1F Enhanced Vegetation [150%].esp20 EnhancedWeather - Darker Nights, 80.esp [Version Final]21 EnhancedWeather.esp [Version 1.4.4]22 Gold Change II.esp23 Harvest [Flora].esp [Version 3.0.0]24 Oblivion Gate Map Marker Remover.esp [Version 1.1.0]25 HAZeatanimations.esp26 KnightShield.esp27 Let There Be Darkness - Cyrodiil.esp28 Kvatch Battle.esp29 LightSpellWhiteDimmer.esp2A OOO-DLT_Remover.esp [Version 1.33]2B OOO-Water_Weeds.esp [Version 1.33]2C P1DseeYouSleep.esp2D P1DseeYouSleep - DLCVileLair.esp2E P1DseeYouSleep - VVAdvanced.esp2F Quest Award Leveller.esp [Version 2.0.1]30 actors_in_charge.esp31 RealisticForceHigh.esp32 RealisticForceLow.esp33 RealisticForceMedium.esp34 RenGuardOverhaul.esp35 SkeletonShaders.esp36 Skyrimized Water HD BLUE eng.esp [Version 1.8.]37 VA_BetterGold.esp38 XSPipeMod.esp [Version 1.2]39 Cobl Races.esp [Version 1.52]3A MaleBodyReplacerV5.esp3B Oblivion_Character_Overhaul.esp [Version 2.0]3C RealSwords - Breton LO.esp3D Harvest [Flora] - DLCFrostcrag.esp [Version 3.0.0]3E ImprovedSigns.esp3F TT-EquipableBeards.esp40 Bashed Patch, 0.esp
Striker879
Steam version of the game or GOG/disk? OBSE is required by your load order ... do you have it installed? I see VVAdvanced.esm but not the rest of that mod ... from the Vim and Vigor mod description (and don't forget to read down a bit farther ... you've missed some Shivering Isles info too):"Copy VVAdvanced.esm, VVAdvanced.esp, and VVAdvanced.bsa from the archive to your Oblivion\Data folder." What are you sorting your load order with? And I'll do a little preemptive troubleshooting before you finally get the game to start and then appear in the OCO v2 mod comments ... Read the OCOv2 mod comments sticky post and you will see COBL mentioned. The specific part of COBL that is cause for concern is COBL Races.esp (the rest of COBL is fine). If you search through the comments you may run across some further advice concerning COBL Races plus OCO v2 (I'm not a big "races" guy myself, but I know I've seen info regarding it). MaleBodyReplacerV5.esp is not required at all. Delete or move it out of the Data folder ... Oblivion_Character_Overhaul.esp does everything required for Roberts Male to work properly alongside OCO v2.

Oblivion_Character_Overhaul.esp does everything required for Roberts Male to work properly alongside OCO v2.Hey, thanks for responding. My game is through Steam. Yes, I do have OBSE, and it was working as far as I know before the crashes started happening. I have used LOOT to sort my mods, and I get a few messages concering TES4Edit, but I don't know what they mean. I also had no idea that I had Vim and Vigor. I don't think I want it, so what is the best way to uninstall it? Also, I might want to add that I first started experiencing this problem after I downloaded Vortex and ran Oblivion through it as one of the managed games. Before then, every mod I had in the load order was working without the COBL plugins. What happens if you start a new game without any mod?Did you download MessageLogger?I have not tried that yet, and would that require uninstalling and reinstalling the game. I also did download and install MessageLogger, but it is not working and nothing is appearing in MessageLog.txt. Firerecon34
Running Oblivion using Vortex takes some knowledge of modding the game and more than a little preparation. Have a peek at HadToRegister's post on the subject:Vortex and Oblivion, an ExperimentI did notice that Vortex does put the mods installed into folders into the the Data folder with the esp's and esm's in them just like the author of the forum you sent me said. I tried removing those folders, but Vortex adds them back in every time Vortex is ran again. I don't know if this is the thing I should have done, but I don't entirely understand the method the author of Vortex and Oblivion, an experiment to make Vortex work with Oblivion. Striker879
My understanding of Vortex (imperfect at best) is that it uses a "virtual" install system similar to Mod Organiser 2 (i.e. the mods are only going into the Data folder when you run the game). Your best bet, if you are going to continue using Vortex, is to study the Vortex manuals and tutorials, and ask in the Vortex support forums when something isn't clear. HadToRegister is a regular helping out on those forums, and would make a good resource to develop a solid rapport with. A word of advice ... the more you can learn on your own the better quality of your questions and answers received. When you ask "How do I do this starting from square one" the scope of the question, and effort that will be required for the answer will keep most from even answering. When you ask "OK I got W and X to work but I'm not clear whether I should do Y next or Z" your question is both easier to answer and says "this guy is doing his best to work through this". Even if it turns out you've made some missteps in step W or X you've established that you are doing the best you can and people will be more willing to help.
