Hello, I am having problems figuring out what I need to get rid of or keep...

I am not an expert at modding nor completely new, but for the love of God I am not able to figure out what I am doing wrong. I use both Vortex and Mod Organizer 2 in which my main downloading manager would be vortex while I change the load order in MO2 and initiate the game from there. Still I am unable to figure out what I am doing wrong and why it refuses to start.

I grabbed the load order from vortex, but I had organized it differently in M02. Still etiher way I am unsuccessful, and even ticking off mods going down the list in MO2 I am unsuccessful. Please help:

What you're doing wrong is using TWO Mod Managers to manage ONE Load order.

You're in a never ending cycle of fighting one mod manager against the other.

MO2 and Vortex should not be used together. The only mod manager that can be used with other mod managers is Wrye Bash and that is when it is used solely for building a bashed patch. Only ever use one mod manager to download, install and manage load order and file priority.

The nature of when the game crashes will determine the cause.

 

 

if the game refuses to launch then it will be because of either of these causes below:

 

1. Missing/Disabled or Corrupted Skyrim Master File (Skyrim.ESM) - very likely this is the cause right here, since you are running 2 mod managers, they are most likely conflicting and thus disabling this file.

 

1a. Solution: Enable Skyrim.ESM or if its already enabled and skyrim is still refusing to launch, then Open Steam, Right Click on Skyrim, click on Local Data, *Verify Integrity of Game Cache* to repair it, via a re download of the Skyrim Master File(s)

 

 

2. Outdated Skse Plugin(s) for the latest version of Skse - if true, a message box will popup when launching skse indicating what plugin(s) is older then the current version of SKSE you are using

 

2a. Solution: Update your Skse Plugins.

 

 

if the game crashes upon selecting a new game or continue game:

 

1. Missing or Disabled Master File(s) for any of your mods.

 

1a. Solution: Download and Run LOOT (Load Order Optimization Tool), it will show you Any Errors With Mods, Any Major Problems with mods, and it will mention any mod(s) that is missing a master file(s). plus it can be used to sort your load order, giving you a good baseline for a correct load order, which is incredibly important. without a correct load order, you are going to have a bad time.

 

1b. for the purpose of this solution, you want LOOT for its ability to mention missing master files for any of your mods. then likewise download all require master files, and the problem will be solved. if this is the cause.

 

 

If the game Crashes before options appear (so it launches, you get a black screen, and then game CTD just before Options appear, such as new game):

 

1. Missing or Corrupted Localization Strings.

 

2a. Solution: Same as the Solution for Repairing Skyrim Master Files.

 

 

But yea as the above posts have said, only run 1 Mod Manager. and if you do not have it already, get LOOT: https://loot.github.io <-- it will make your modding life so much better. its an essential tool that every modder should have. regardless of the automated load order sorting, its especially useful for its mod checking, that will save a lot of time, and will lead into a much more stable game/ less error prone game, when you have corrected the issues it presents. such as disabled references, missing master files, and downloading any patches your mods might need. etc etc.
