Tannin42
We're not going to change how profiles or database backups work, both do exactly what they're supposed to do. The only thing that's up for debate is changing the UI to make it more obvious what they do and what they don't do.I mean - technically I guess it might be possible to have further profile options, like "This profile has its own staging folder" and "This profile has its own download folder" but that would make the interface even more complex.Otoh, having these things as options would also make it more clear what the default behavior is. > The only minor profile pain I have is when I download an update on one profile, I delete one or more old versions and enable the new. But this is a problem with your process then. If you delete the mod first you give Vortex no chance to transfer information from the old mod to the new. At the time you delete a mod, Vortex doesn't know you're about to install an update. If however you simply install the update - assuming Vortex has all the meta data - Vortex will ask you if you want to update all profiles in which case all profiles then use the new version automatically. rmm200
Well - harumph - I have seen that message, and always say Update All, but never really thought through what it meant. So if Profile A has the old version enabled, Profile B has the old version disabled, and Profile C downloads a new version of that enabled mod,Profile A will get the old version disabled, the new version enabledProfile B will get the new version but disabledProfile C will get the new version enabled and it will be up to me to disable the old I still sort of prefer a notice when switching to a different profile, that enabled mods have been uninstalled (and list them). That would cover all cases; not just the mod update case.
Tannin42
You can make a feature request on our issue tracker, although admittedly I wouldn't really know right now how to implement that. Zanderat has made a proposal for a change to the profile system following this thread and I proposed a bunch of different approaches to how we could implement that without breaking the Profile functionality as it is now: https://github.com/Nexus-Mods/Vortex/issues/8043 Opinions are welcome, also please ask if my descriptions are unclear. Edit: Fixed the link
Zanderat
Hi, Tannin42. Thanks for the thoughtful suggestions. I will respond via GitHub after I had some time to mull over your suggestions. FYI, for some reason your link goes to a page one level higher than the actual feature request. This one seems better. https://github.com/Nexus-Mods/Vortex/issues/8043
