Strange CTD Mods/no Mods

Hey,

 

So I finally got around to buying Fallout 4.

 

However I was met with a strange CTD. So having used mods for TES for many years, I'm familiar with what breaks and fixes the game, mods or no mods.

 

1- I set up a mod list, tested it, reinstalled a few mods and changed the load order as I was getting a ctd on "Transferring". This was fixed and I played, saved/loaded for around 6-7 hours.

 

2- I installed 4 additional mods, 3 armor mods, and 1 bomb mod. I play for a couple of hours, save and load, it seems to work.

 

3- CTD on load, okay well I was prepared for that when I installed mods mid-game, so I tried "new game" ctd also.

 

4- Uninstall one of the new mods one at a time, until all are removed, still ctd.

 

5- Verify game files, re-download DLC, re-clean dlc, ctd on new game.

 

6- open game without any mods, CTD on new game.

 

7- Googles this, can't seem to find anything that matches.

 

8- Goes to Nexus forums.

 

So not knowing fallout 4 errors/bugs - with/without mods very well, I was wondering if someone here has come across a similar issue?

Although it doesn't appear to be a mod issue here is the list - F4SE is of course installed.

So you're saying you can't start a new, unmodded game without an instant CTD?

If that's the case, try turning off your firewall. Also, disable Steam Cloud synchronization.

Check your Scripts folder. Are there any pex files leftover in there from mods which you've uninstalled? Sometimes they don't uninstall properly.

 

Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling the DLC and then starting the game?

Or did you clean the DLCs before starting the game up with them un-clean?

 

The problem may also be your nvidia driver. It may need a downgrade.

First thing you can try is downloading the CTD-log tool Buffout 4. Here's the link - https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/47359

It will give you a crash log whenever you CTD, and tell you which mod is causing it. You can post the crash log on that page or here, and i'll look at it.

I know you said it's probably not a mod. But if it is an nvidia driver issue, it'll also point that out.

It also comes with code that helps prevent CTDs and fixes engine flaws and bugs, so it's fine to keep installed regardless.

CTDs on a new game often happen during the transition from the intro to the part where the main character starts the "War never changes" speech. This is due to the heavy load of the main features of the game and the root of the CTD is often not enough RAM.

 

You also have a few mods that are known to cause issues, like "Start Me Up", "SSEX", "Concord Expanded" and/or "SIM Settlements". These mods are okay, but a lot of other mods tend to conflict with them.

Okay, Fallout 4 used to work before I built a new PC with an RTX 2070 and an I5 9600K on Windows 10. I've tried many things and my game keeps crashing at the exact spot when you are supposed to get into the cryo chamber. Same exact spot every time. I've disabled weapon debris, I've set everything to low, I've tried borderless, windowed, and full screen all separately. I've installed the F4SE and the Weapon Debris Crash Fix mod along with it. And I still experience CTD every single time at the same exact spot. When I press E to enter the cryo chamber it immediately crashes to desktop. I run MSI Afterburner so temps are acceptable, GPU= 50C and CPU= 45C. Low temps because the game barely uses my hardware potential.

I've also tried different resolutions as my monitor is 1440p. I've tried 1080p and 720p. My game is capped at 60 FPS as I know the engine gets weird past 60 FPS. My PC is 2 months old and I built it myself. All of my drivers, as well as Windows is up to date with the latest of everything.

It's very irritating as I've never had a problem with this game when I used cheap/old hardware. I used to use a GTX 570 and then an Rx 480 for a GPU and an I5 2400 for a CPU. And with that hardware never had a problem and I also used Windows 10 on that old PC.

If anyone else has a similar experience it would be greatly appreciated. Turning off weapon debris and even lowering everything to low does nothing. Same exact spot everytime it crashes to desktop. And I've installed and uninstalled this game 3 times in the past 2 days on a 2 month old PC I built myself. I have no problems with any other games. Even Cyberpunk 2077 is running better than this. Yes Cyberpunk has T-posing and some graphical glitches but I haven't experienced any CTD with that game and I run at Ultra settings 1440p with DLSS set to quality and I average between 60-70 FPS.

Hand built the PC myself and it's 2 months old

 

The first time I tried playing was completely vanilla and second time I turned everything to low and I turned weapon debris off. None of that works so I began to mess around with F4SE and the Weapon Debris Crash Fix mod to no avail. I own the original Fallout 4, not the special edition and I have 2 DLCs which are Far Harbor and Nuka World.

Also check you haven't got mods that need ALL the DLC. The Unofficial FO4 Patch, for instance. There's dozens more and this isn't always specifically mentioned on the mod pages, especially for newer mods as mod authors tend to think that by now; alsmost six years after the game's original release, most players would have the complete package.

Another suggestion - have you tried skipping the starting cryo scene altogether?

SKK's quick start mod will take you from character creation straight to leaving the vault in seconds.

See if the rest of the entire game works fine or not.
