zixi
I'm a bit puzzled by what 'Save Games' and 'Game Settings' mean on the profiles. One of my profiles has 'yes' to both and the other has 'no' and I'm not sure how or why... or indeed how they got there! Sorry if I'm being dense... if there's more documentation somewhere then I'm quite happy to RTM...

Each Profile will generate a FOlder in the My Games\Skyrim SE folder with random letters and numbers Profile #1 profile folder would be called something like "EhuIOp65" and have Profile #1 save games in it.If you start a new Profile, than Profile #2 will have a folder called something random like "thUbd57f" and only have the savegames for Profile #2 in it, etc etc
zixi
OK right... yes, it all makes sense now. I didn't put those two ideas together! Doh!! Thank you! These profiles are really useful. I've cloned a couple. It'll save me a lot of heartache when I go testing mods. The game is pretty stable under Linux but really I don't like adding to its burden by subtracting and adding mods willy-nilly. But I did, of course... At least this way I can have some 'protected' profiles and delete ones I no longer need. It also means I can separate play-throughs. It's always irritated me the way Bethesda represents saves inside Skyrim. I'm not sure how they think players actually play... Thanks again! Stay well!!!!! rmm200
My suggestion:Find your set of mods you always use and trust. Make it a profile called something like Default. Now when you find the latest, hottest mod - that you don't really trust yet - clone Default and add it there. If it does not work out, just delete that new profile.Don't forget to copy the newest Save from Default. That gives you a known starting point. Profiles for the win! zixi
Thanks! That's a good suggestion or knowing me, I'd end up with a lot of clones.
