EchoRNGR
I've been trying to install mods for Baldur's Gate 3 but every time I try to make the mod staging folder it says I need to have it on the same drive as the game. The only thing being, it is on the same drive as the game. My game is on my F: drive but it tells me to make the folder in the C: drive and vice versa when I make the folder in the C: drive. I have already reinstalled both vortex and the game. I've restarted my computer, I've run vortex as administrator, and even tried moving the game to a different drive. Version is 1.3.
Guest deleted34304850
when you reinstalled vortex, did you by any chance reinstall it on your F: drive?also don't install it as admin. ever.
Tannin42
The message may be misleading. The staging folder has to be on the drive where the game loads its mods from. In 99% of games that _is_ the game folder, but BG3 loads its mods from the Documents folder (which is usually on C:).So the suggestion of putting it on C: is correct. No matter where I put the staging folder it tells me to put it on the other drive. Also yes, I have it installed on the F: drive now but I've tried it on both. Installing Vortex in more than one location on your system is going to be problematic. You may have to completely uninstall vortex from your system, and then go and clean up your appdata folder as there will be remnants of Vortex in there too. If you don't know what to delete - use something like Revo Uninstaller, which is pretty good at cleaning up left over files and folders out of appdata.I don't know if you'll have to clean up your mod directories as well, it won't hurt, but I think you're in for a busy weekend trying to undo all this and redo it. So, in short; uninstall vortexclean up appdata (remove vortex folders and their contents)clean up any directories that had mods in them (delete the contents) reinstall vortex - not as admin - not ever start over. sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I never installed it as admin, not even sure how that's possible, I only launched it as admin. And it isn't installed in more than one location, I uninstalled it before reinstalling, I've already cleared out the directories and app data. There's no problems with any game besides BG3. Don't think it has to do with an installation on more than one drive, I'll try the Revo uninstaller but I seriously doubt if it's working with other games that this will be the issue. Edit: Didn't work

Don't RUN it as an Admin, I did that once and it locked me out of my Vortex files, I had to take ownership of the folder to get permissions back You probably have to report it as a bug with the BG3 extension, because it's giving you a "Catch-22" situation, telling you it has to install the Mod Staging folder on C:\ (Which it DOES), then telling you it has to be on the same Drive as the Game. When it tells/warns you about having to be on the same drive as the game, is it STOPPING you from proceeding, or is it just giving you a 'heads up" than you can ignore? Tannin42
Try changing Settings->Mods->Deployment Method to "Symbolic Links".

I am beginning to think there's a problem with BG3 and not Vortex since it works with other games and Candor isn't working for it either. I'm at a loss, this sucks. Try changing Settings->Mods->Deployment Method to "Symbolic Links". Unfortunately it says that the Filesystem doesn't support it Edit: Quick update, I tried removing all the files related to larian studios so that they would be remade on a fresh install, this didn't fix the issue. I have absolutely no clue what the problem could be at this point, super unfortunate but I guess I'll have to wait till this game fully releases. Edit 2: Vortex no longer works with any games, it now has the same issue with them as BG3

Edit 2: Vortex no longer works with any games, it now has the same issue with them as BG3 Your problem is that you don't have NTFS on the hard drive you're trying to use Vortex SYmlinks, Hardlinks on Instead the file system is something like FAT32 that isn't supported.
