Trying to help? Where do you see that?

I didn't see any advice from him or you. Both of you are just looking down you nose and only asking "What cha wanna do that fer?"

a) calm down man. I'm sure you're having some serious problem in your life but you can't let it out on other people like that.

b) what you have to understand is that Vortex uses a ton of internet functionality for logging in, downloading, updating mods and so on. We don't maintain older versions of Vortex so even if Vortex 0.16 works fine for you today, tomorrow it may break because one of the services we use had a change to the interface.

On top of that, security holes get discovered and fixed all the time, if you're using antiquated software, you're almost guaranteed to being exposed to security holes that are widely known and abused by every script kiddy around.

That's why people are hesitant to help you in what is objectively a really bad idea. If you have a problem with the new Vortex, let us know about your concerns, maybe we can address them. Maybe you're not alone with your dislike for certain aspects of Vortex and you would be helping others as well.

But if you just stick with an old version because you dislike something in the new one, you will eventually run into the situation where Vortex no longer works and at that point you may be so hopelessly outdated that a smooth transition is no longer possible (we support migrating from one version to the next, we make no promise that you will be able to migrate from 0.16 -> 1.5.0).

I uninstalled it but now my PC will not let me install the older version because somewhere is some record that the newer version has been already installed. After talking to you and considering your particular avoidance of the question I realize this feature is deliberate.

Stop with the conspiracy theories, all you need to do is delete the C:\users\YOUR NAME\Appdata\roaming\VORTEX folder

You know, where Windows Stores EVERYTHING ELSE like Settings, Program Info, Program Settings etc...

Wow, someone finally gave me an answer I can use.

If the other 2 guys had something useful to say... like that, I would have just considered it solved.

And I don't even care you had to include the snide remark. If I had gotten such a direct answer to start with I wouldn't have been an ass.

Why don't you just go the hell away. I didn't ask you a damn thing.

My replies to your nonsense inside;

When you posted in this forum, you asked. I answered. Three times.

As I said, I hope you find peace in your life. Good luck with your uninstall.

Thank you for replying with a reasonable answer.

I dropped a mod in, this vortex renamed it. The old one never did that.

Yesterday, I'm putting in some mods for whiterun, planning a new playthrough. I'm comparing mods to The DrunkenHuntsman. I have 3 that I like, it's been a while and I've forgotten which one I liked best.

The fist two are right there, ready to be activated. The third one disappeared. Right. It just vanished. I drop it in again... "This file already exist...." Yeah. It still does not show up. The name of the eps is the same as the zip file, I checked that. I look in the vortex folder and there it is along with the other two. But it still doesn't show up in the program. I renamed it, same diff.

So to view this mod I have to copy it to the Data folder myself. Yes, it works that way.

Everything that's new, comes along with bugs. I don't see this problem anywhere else and of course I did a reasonable search before I posted. Maybe it's my PC. Maybe it's some corrupted file. It's not my skill set to find out. But I'm learning. I've decide this this forum is not the best place to get answers. But thank you a good answer and for being civil.

I just wanted to continue using the older version until someone gets the bugs out. That is not unreasonable. How did you get the idea I was NEVER intending to upgrade? I just want to use the older version to finish setting up some mods for this particular playthrough. A month? Two? I'm sure my chances of avoiding a PC meltdown cause of some virus is a little slim for a couple more months.

Dude, leave me the hell alone.

It's not uninstalling it I have problems with. It's trying to reinstall the old one. Learn to freakin read.

I've already reported you once. Now leave me alone.

when you uninstall it, you need to uninstall all of it before you can re-install it - however, as i put in the first reply to you - doing that is not recommended.

then i suggested, as you were familiar with google that you could find a guide on google to fully uninstalling a program.

the help was there. you simply didn't like it. i can't help that. i do not know what you like to read or what you don't like to read.

however, you have to look at the bigger picture, someone may come across this thread and see that the advice given is to not go back to an older, unsupported version of the tool and this thread may save them a lot of unnecessary trouble. For that reason alone, I will post in this thread, if not to help you, then to help someone else.

you telling me to go away, or leave you alone is not something i can help with or will take notice to.

i have not posted anything that breaks any rules or terms of service of these forums in my replies in this thread. my posts have been given in good faith and contain accurate and true information.

I hope this clarifies everything for you, and once again, i wish you peace and good luck with your uninstall/reinstall. peace.

Oh ok, now you want to come with actual advice.

See, I didn't ask if I should do it, I asked how to do it.

The moment I drop a mod into my game, it's on me. Even if that mod is crap and messing up my game, I am the one who decided to mod the game. I understand a lot of people get post on here and on the mod pages about "your mod destroyed my game..." That is NOT me. I take full responsibility for screwing up my game by deciding to mod it in the first place.

As far as completely uninstalling it, the other guy beat you to it. Call me a noob (it's true) I actually didn't know about the Vortex folder in Appdata. You could have just said, "Man that is a **** idea, but if you really want to...."

Now seriously, I really don't want to have anything else to do with you. Nothing personal but you're just not my type.

Again, as above, if you can read, the advice was there from the start of this thread when I advised you (correctly) not to do what you wanted to do.

You ignored all advice given to you repeatedly and decided for whatever reason to be openly hostile to everyone who tried to help you.

Also, you are not having anything to do with me. If I'm honest, you are irrelevant to me and are on a mission to break your games because of your inability to follow well meaning and correct advice. That's great, and I wish you well with your endevor. It is certain to be successful.

Again, if you look at the bigger picture (its not all about you), I'm posting up correct advice, if not for you, because you don't like it, then for future readers of this forum. I'm perfectly allowed to do that as long as I don't break TOS.

BTW, as HTR pointed out above, older software, especially out of support software has bugs that are fixed by newer releases of the code. Your stance in this thread is asinine beyond belief, but some people are beyond being helped and want to blame the world for their own shortcomings. Again, I wish you nothing but success in your mission, and as a final act of assistance, I would recommend you search for and install a program called Revo Uninstaller. It will uninstall any program on your system, but will go off and find other directories and registry entries such as files in APPDATA that may be missed by the built-in Windows uninstall process. I think that program will give you a lot more bang for your buck, and it is free (they offer a paid version too).

Good luck.
