Completely Balls'd up

So I'm having some issues with Vortex today.
Skyrim needed a fresh install, so I set Vortex to uninstalling and deleting mod archives overnight, so I could start today.
That al happened without a hitch - apparently.

I've removed Skyrim, any leftover files/scripts and took a really concise clean out of my disk drives. Now, I DID leave Vortex and LOOT installed.

The firsft 4 or 5 mods on the fresh install (after installing skyrim, SKSE, ENB etc.) were fine. The next few apparently installed fine - but their plugins were inactive in the plugins tab. This was strange, as all of my plugins usually activate with install/deployment. I also use LOOT after every 2-3 mods, sometimes after each singular one if it's script heavy or large in file size, or just generally has a larger effect on the game/my system.

I activated them manually, but noticed they didn't affect Skyrim when booting up through the Script Extender (yes, I'm going to be overly descriptive in everything I've done inb4 "oh you need to use SKSE to run it" and "oh you need to use loot, mod newb"). Closed Skyrim, looked in Vortex to see that they were apparently active, closed Vortex and re-opened it, to find that Sky UI and XPMSE were no longer installed - instead they were in 'never installed'. I definitely installed them initally.

I then deleted their archives, downloaded fresh ones, installed both, deployed, ran LOOT - to see that LOOT was refusing to sort plug-ins, with a message along the lines of a sort being unneccesary, or the order not being changed.

Also, half of my plugins weren't listed in LOOT, namely XPMSE and the USSEP.

From my (inexperienced) knowledge of computers, this would indicate to me that Vortex had corrupt files, or my system does (my system is monitored and maintained by those employed to ensure complete stability), or maybe even LOOT.

So, safely uninstalled Vortex, LOOT & Skyrim, stripped out anything leftover, and reinstaleld again.

To the exact same thing.

Strangely enough, before the initial crash of the game, I was at 624 mods, all safely installed, merged, patched, and honestly at least as stable as vanilla Skyrim (70+ hours with no crashes or freezing seems stable to me, but i know that's not enough to rate the experience overall) - it was one badly scripted mod that f*#@ed it up. That's my fault for not looking into the mod better, and reading reviews on other sites in regards to it.

But all of this s#*! afterwards, I can't see the problem as lying with anything other than Vortex.

Along with the UI issues (C'mon, half my college class designed better UIs for other software 10+ years ago), am I going to keep seeing issues like this? Whilst this has been the first time I've had any issue like this with Vortex, it's disheartening to think that it could do this in future.

STOP USING LOOT, it's already built into Vortex.

Go to SETTINGS----->INTERFACE
Turn On
Deploy Mods when Enabled
Enable Mods when installed (in current profile)

Not ONCE did I see you mention that you PURGED any of the mods before Uninstalling Vortex, LOOT and Skyrim.
Which leaves all the mods right where they are, sio you're guaranteed to have the same problems over and over again.

I probably should have included that I purge mods anytime I do a fresh install, whether I'm removing mods from my system or not.

I hadn't came across anywhere else telling me stop using LOOT, so I've been using it again overnight, after moving to a fresh system. It's been ordering things extremely odd since the update last night/this morning - putting XPMSE about 3/4s of the way through my load order for example. I've just always used LOOT or manually assigned load order, so wasn't comfortable with just letting Vortex do it's thing, when I wasn't aware of that bud - the Vortex page just states that it auto-sorts, not that it's using something tried and tested like LOOT.

So the problem now becomes how to fix my load order, with XPMSE loading BEFORE RaceMenu, and causing CTD on 'showracemenu'.

nice to know I don't have to keep running loot every few mods though, thanks.

There seems to discrepancies between an order generated by LOOT and one from Vortex though. Much bigger differences before the recent update, but still occasional.

*edit*
I did mention that I uninstalled Vortex/Skyrim and stripped out any remaining files - even if I hadn't purged, I know where to look and what I'm looking for to remove things manually. People have been modding long before automated installers and organisers were a thing.

The LOOT built into Vortex uses the SAME Masterlist FIle, downlaoded directly from the LOOT github, that LOOT uses.

Stop making Vortex and LOOT fight over your load order.
