Sound cuts out, game freezes, CTD, followed by device disconnected sound

After not playing Fallout 4 for about a month, I played it a few days ago and I started encountering a serious issue while playing. I found this odd, as when I had previously played it, it ran perfectly with no crashes. At first I thought it had to do with mods I had installed since it mostly came up during firefights. The gunfire sounds would cut out, then the game would freeze, followed by a CTD, and as soon as it hit desktop a device disconnected sound would play. My first thought was that maybe a gunfire sound mod was the cause of this, so I disabled any mod that could alter gunfire sounds, or any sounds for that matter. I disabled Reverb And Ambiance Overhaul, and Commonwealth Gunfire Overhaul - realistic weapon sounds, loaded up a save entered a firefight, and the crash still ensued. So I tried restarting my computer and trying again to no avail. This time I didn't even enter a firefight, I was picking up items. Once again the sound cut out, the game froze, CTD, and device disconnected sound. My next thought was to address that device disconnected sound. I run Fallout 4 from an external SSD (a Samsung PSSD T7) connected via USB. I went through to Power Settings in the Control Panel and disabled the disconnecting of drives due to power consumption. This didn't work either. The same sequence of events happened. I've ran F4SE as administrator, I've ran MO2 as administrator, I've made Windows Defender exceptions for my entire MO2 and Steam folders, and all of these things have failed. I tried simply keeping the computer cooler by keeping a fan blowing on it as I play, this didn't help either. I've run Fallout 4 in compatibility mode, that didn't work at all. I've reinstalled MO2, nothing. I've verified file integrity through Steam, and that did nothing. I've turned off V-Sync, Threaded optimization, and Tripple Buffering for Fallout4.exe in my NVidia control panel. All I get is at most 5 minutes of play before the sound cuts out and the crash just happens. I still get the device disconnected sound, and sometimes MO2 crashes right on with Fallout 4.

I use an Alienware m17 laptop (GeForce RTX 2060, 16GB RAM) to play Fallout 4.

You should put that massively long list in SPOILER tags so people don't have to scroll down the page for miles...

 

 

Perhaps your USB drive can't keep up with the data transfer required for the game, so it makes the computer think it's been disconnected, which in turn, would definitely lock up your game.

Yeah, trying to run the game over the USB bus is pretty much assured to cause some interesting problems..... if you are on a desktop, install the drive IN the machine.....
