  1. Unless you removed the data folder files manually, all likelihood that the problem files are still there. I actually use MTUI myself and never experienced what you describe. First guess is that you may have copied files into the folder that overrode MTUIs and as the files were probably never actually removed, the problem exists after reinstallation. Only way to be sure is to uninstall and manually remove all remaining directories for FONV then reinstall and run without any modding to verify its not a mod conflict and actually a hardware issue.
  2. You got to use the launcher, the options aren't available in FOMM, just graphics.
  3. The dx fix is dependent on both the file and the card. Honestly your best bet is to start searching the web and testing all the "proposed" fixes provided by others. Perfomance hits go beyond graphics in this game especially.
  4. FO3/FONV do have threaded options, the question is do those options actually utilize those cores optimally. As for your slowdown, assuming you're fully patched, you'll probably want to check up on the d3d9.dll replacement fix most people have been using to deal with slowdowns. Glad this should be the last Fallout on this Gamebryo engine.
  5. Use the Fallout Wiki for details, but you're really better off with a previous save - you can set quest stages and the like if you know what the numbers are (again see wiki).
  6. (Wonders why no one has mentioned whether or not they have been running mods?)
  7. Ghost Body Suit with A silenced sniper rifle. Like Boone, but better looking and even more deadly
  8. How can you test a mod for conflicts if you don't know what they change? Unless you're using a utility that verifies that no two esps/esms are modifying the same data, like maybe Fnvedit (which should be doing that I believe). If you used all blank esps, then you'd at least have a control somewhere as opposed to so many possibilities of random chaos. There's no legitimate way to completely test a mod to be bug free unless its something simple like perk every level (again one of those single variable changes) as it has a minimal impact. New patches can create problems for scripts that worked fine before. I'd never feel the need to test it because I'd never need that many mods. Considering how many things are STILL broken in the actual game, how can you believe that your mods are issue free? If the source material is flawed.... I just find it odd you think you've "fully" tested your mods when Beth couldn't even fully test the vanilla game. Your method of testing is flawed as you have no control, just a mix of mods with plenty of potential to break in various ways. While you may believe you're tests are sound, considering how many issues pop up in mod troubleshooting, let alone regular troubleshooting -- claiming for certain is overshooting your findings. I'm not disagreeing with you in that 150 is the breaking point, I'm disagreeing with you as you claim its the case for everyone without confirming it on multiple systems of different configurations. Some people never have a problem, some people have nothing but - you can't assume your experience is the only one.
  9. I had the most trouble with quest order. The plot is more linear than Fo3 but the game is just as open so would it have been so hard to have one of the sentries at Maccaran to direct the player to Col Hsu's office for example? If the player made New Vegas by way of Novacs then how exactly are you going to find the Great Khans before your killing Motorunner and ending the 'Abba Dabba Honeymoon quest'? There is a lot of stuff like that and I think the devs missed several tricks that would have helped. But the thing I missed the most, in view of the fractional infighting was someone like Old Ben to talk about this stuff. A non partisan NPC or two to give some clues about where some in-game decisions would take you would have been a huge help. Just an NPC in a bar or something that could respond to the players progress through the game would do, but that was one of effects things that Threedogs had in Fo3 and it's more badly needed in FoNV. I would actually say its less linear than FO3, as I will find myself all over the map before I finally decide to visit Benny. While I think it tends to break immersion with all the "quest failed" pop ups for quests you haven't even started, they also feel a lot more connected than the quests from FO3. Instead of start quest A, finish, start quest B, finish, etc.,. , actions in one region may have a profound affect in a region I haven't even visited yet. In FO3, I felt very confined as it basically felt like I would go to an area, do any quests, then move to the next. In FONV, quests can take you all over the place, leading to the player not needing to stay in the same place to still be productive and still having some sense of efficiency. I can hit 30 while remaining completely neutral with both NCR and Legion before I finally start running quests that "forces" me to kill them. While all the additional sidequests can be confusing, I'm grateful that they give the player so much to do before the final battle.
  10. You really can't make a judgement of compiling random mods. You've got to consider what each mod affects, what each mod changes, and just how many conflict with each other. If you were to test this by changing a single setting change in each esp, you'd get a far more accurate number on just how many "mods" the game can run with. You have to keep in mind with your tests the mods have varying sizes and effects, far from a scientific method of testing. Also, you fail to consider how the machine itself plays a role, installed memory, cache settings and the like. Considering each mod is a change or list of changes to the original "library", it would make sense that for the sake of performance that you streamline the number of added references, as its a lot easier if all the answers are in "one book" as opposed to a main book with a few hundred leaflets.
  11. I hold bunker destruction experience has to be on par or surpass Raven Rock. Since you're guaranteed to not get a scripted Fawkes come running in with a gatling laser, and I'm not fighting enclave advanced power armor and sentry bots and deathclaws, the little Hidden Valley Bunker is just screaming disappointment.
  12. The game tends to dictate what character I play in the story. While actually a male in RL, I've got no issue playing a female character thanks to games like Metroid, Tomb Raider and the like teaching me "girls don't have cooties". More often than not, deciding between male and female is a matter of what looks aesthetically better in game, all the while keeping in mind I'll probably be staring at a backside for hours upon hours. Never got heavy into RP, but I'd say a bit of myself exists in all my "characters". I'd say just about all of them have the same moral constraints, and while the thought of taking a life in real life is one I can't fully grasp, in games I don't give it a second thought, letting the moral compass be the guide. Hell, even killing fiends can give me pause once they've become "friendly". As someone mentioned before me, one of the keys to RP is actually doing it well. When someone truly can get into character in the game world, their real life counterpart matters not. I hate lying, so acting just isn't for me - not to say actors are lying bastards, I just have trouble faking things whether it be for personal gain or entertainment purposes. But in my gaming experience, every once in a while, you do run across the RPer that totally gets into character, and like the Queen's Guard, attempts to break their stride failed as they held their ground. But, for the most part, everyone's off doing their own thing or grinding to bother with serious RP. Then again there's always Leeroy!
  13. Complaining that ME2 has no merit... you just lost all credibility with me there. If you think because it was popular with the masses means its junk is idiotic. ME2 was popular because those who played it enjoyed it. I played both, and while ME was fun, ME 2 was a lot smoother. Granted, I started with Wolfenstein 3D back in DOS on a 386, I've had a thing for shooters since, though it wasn't until the first Half-Life that got me hooked. ME2 was a blast for me, bugs and all. I can't imagine how any true gamer would not enjoy it, as any real gamer won't be sucked in by pretty graphics alone. Considering how bugged FONV was at released and yet its huge popularity, its takes a helluva game to get passed so many flaws. When I think "worst", I think of obscure games pratically no one's ever heard of, or games that had so much potential and instead failed miserably (ie Command and Conquer 4).
  14. Yep. So what if Ashley was a tad upset when you meet up again, how do expect someone to react after coping with your death to see you alive? (because we all know "everyone" lets Kaidan Alenko/Carth die =P). As Carth, he would have had a better survival rate!
  15. The only "prebuilt" machines for gaming I could recommend are unfortunately out of that budget, though not necessarily by too much. Falcon Northwest and Sager are the only companies that come to mind that I'd personally be willing to spend to have pre-built. Alienware's rep took a big hit after Dell took them over. Otherwise you're better off building your own, and honestly, if you're really into your games, you should be learning the tricks of the trade. Considering all the troubleshooting one is likely to do as a PC Gamer, learning to build and maintain your own rig(s) only makes sense. Also all you need is 30fps (eye sees about 28fps as fluid if I remember correctly), the key is keeping said frame rate from dropping to below that. Of course, any game that can do 30fps in all conditions is effectively going to run higher than that unless you lock in fps limits.
  16. It's possible that you may have corrupted the pipboy with incorrect installation of MTUI since it does override a bit of that interface. Would recommend a clean install (uninstall/reinstall) without installing MTUI to see if the problem persists.
  17. From what I remember, FO3 at release wasn't bugged as badly as FONV at release, but it had plenty of issues. I've been using FOMM so I haven't used the original loader in a long while, but that should have the options you're looking for.
  18. The BoS in New Vegas are too arrogant to like in my opinion. If I'm not going to use Veronica in a playthrough I'll walk into Hidden Valley with the Pulse Gun and dare them to try and disarm me. I concur. I've settled on taking out McNamara for putting a slave collar on me, but now that Hardin is in charge I can't find him. Is there a prison that he is in? At any rate, I took out the Van Graffs, as doing so coincided with my objectives anyways. Thinking of leaving some mines and frag grenade stocking-stuffers though after I learn Power Armor Training. After playing unarmed I am thinking of a Sniper/Flamer build. Would like to see meltdown in action and to pop some heads from 1 mile away. The first time I entered the bunker was with Veronica, and since then I don't bother with them till I decide to have her tag along so they've never pissed me off, though the practically broken t45 they give me after I do what they couldn't does annoy me. I now start birds of a feather so I don't have to get stripped-search before going in the Silver Rush. I just end up crouching in a corner and sneak killing everyone but Gloria since I modified her vendor container so that they are actually the energy weapon version of the gunrunners. It's kind of sad that I can shoot them down right in front of each other without anyone blinking an eye, but I'm just that good =P Flamer with meltdown is bad juju. The first time I got that perk I decided to tear apart the fort with my gatling laser, but the meltdown ended up blowing me up. Not sure if the perk that boosts DT to explosives will be enough to deride all that damage.
  19. I'd say lings is the best for general looks, though its focused primarily on females. SG Sweeter Veronica is probably the best looking companion mod, as I know I'm doing the rest of mine by hand for personal use.
  20. I'd have to disagree - if anything the problem is that the sniper rifle is more versatile and deadly than everything else in the arsenal. Unless you've got other mods affecting DR/DT, it doesn't take long to see differences between weapons. Trying to kill a giant radscorpion with a 9mm pistol or varmint rifle should make it blatantly obvious. There are quite a few mods that can affect damage dealt/taken. I'd strongly recommend you take a look at some if you're not already familiar with the Geck. All one has to do is browse the gameplay section of files.
  21. Unarmed is awesome, at least when I get passed the fact that I actually have to take some damage as my prey now actually has a chance hehe. Found it a little strange that the ballistic fist does a bit of area damage yet only fires a single projectile. Energy weapons are a lot more useful once you mod the ammo like the ps3 patch, though meltdown ended up being a lot more powerful than I expected. While its fun to watch the explosions, it keeps energy from being a useful in cqb. That, and it doesn't really make sense for someone I just tore through with a gatling laser to look like they just stepped on a plasma mine on each death.
  22. Have you done any ini editing to enable multi-core threading? Do you have FFDSHOW installed?
  23. That's the drawback with the sniper playstyle, as you're rarely actually threatened. But it definitely beats the FO3 snipe one and everyone still alive knows exactly where you are setup. I try to think of it as being rewarded for playing smarter.
  24. I think it's having the opposite effect. That surmises the basic point at least a few of us are trying to make. Protecting your product is one thing, but when said protection results in losing more repeat business than actual piracy prevention, it's time to readdress priorities. I would say piracy is much more rampant than when I first started using computers years ago, so the anti-piracy drm hasn't been serving its purpose enough to justify all the problems created for actual customers. When you start punishing paying customers, you alienate your customer base, reducing profit in the end. I don't think its plausible to fully eliminate "piracy" as its defined by copyright laws, but I do think a better solution can be found that doesn't punish the customer so frequently.
