samadchaz replied to Rennn's topic in Hardware and software discussion
overclocking may increase electricity bill  be sure you are getting "desired" temperature after overclocking -

Computer for the Parents
samadchaz replied to hoofhearted4's topic in Hardware and software discussion
Right off the bat it doesn't strike me as a good deal. E6600 cost $80 when they were new... now, $25 maybe Mobo, say $60 (used value <$30) RAM, $30 GT440, $20 used but $50 new HDD, $70 DVD no idea, $20? +$10 PSU Case, $80 Was there something else? Market here isnt same as you have, 450$ is just a conversion and old things means "you have to pay more"! -

Another Good Computer, Low Skyrim Problem
samadchaz replied to screamin4urlife's topic in Hardware and software discussion
wonder why you call that "decent" rig? 5450 doesn't even match for gt440. you need middle-level card to play (not just run) -

The problem with functions and C programming!
samadchaz replied to JJacobs's topic in Hardware and software discussion
for that keybaord (arrow keys) you need to use directx (six or seven) api or if you want to draw x,y I think I used putpixel -
you should give your laptop for checkup to see if its fan actually running or not, sounds like a fan fail issue
-
ah I see, Can you try overclocking after disabling EIST Driver, CPU Thermal Monitor and CPU Thermal Monitor 2 and put the CPU Warning Temperature to 85 C? (Its not good to save Energy When you want Performance

Nvidia 301.42 Driver problem
samadchaz replied to samadchaz's topic in Hardware and software discussion
Its not that thing, I actually using dual boot OS on separate disks  -
you mean multiplier change on the fly? sounds weird. Mine always fix to x10.5(selected the maximum value in BIOS) and just increased the "CPU Host frequency" without touching in voltage area.

Nvidia 301.42 Driver problem
samadchaz replied to samadchaz's topic in Hardware and software discussion
Thanks! managed to start Nvidia Inspector after having brawl with antivirus and enabled the FXAA but there is no indicator if I toggle it on, is it really shows an icon on screen? will try the Driver sweeper for 301.42 :psyduck: -
Did you see that your proc running at 1.4 ghz instead of 2.2 (you are under-clocking actually) can you upload a pic of your bios screen showing Vcore voltage and also of SpeedFan reading voltages of Vcore1 and Vcore2 There will be a problem(BIG) if you put load and your Vcore values not going down! (Vcore should drop in propotonal to CPU Load) DO NOT OVERCLOCK YOUR MEMORY! tight the timings(if possible) or if new, keep it left auto or timing by SPD

Thermal Paste: Got Any Tips?
samadchaz replied to TheFourthHorse's topic in Hardware and software discussion
Wrong! just apply in the middle of cpu AND put the cleaned heat sink on it, no need to apply on heatsink contact and no need of credit cards -
Yes they are The Best but I dont like re-tagging :pirate:

Installing a brand new HDD
samadchaz replied to ub3rman123's topic in Hardware and software discussion
Model? what steps you actually tried yet? Try this one: Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Computer Management->Storage (in Left Pane)->Disk Management you will see your Non-formatted(RAW) Disk there, if not there is a problem. Create Partitions(Right click) and format it. -
your Q6600 is good for skyrim ( If you want to overclock, you need aftermarket cooler and extra 120mm fan/s which is not included in stock) if you want to save bucks for some reason you can go for a 550TI and a Rosewill Green series RG630 (not a fan of what you listed above, they all are seasonic :whistling: and not sure about your RAM  how much its show up in BIOS?( 4gb AND 8gb inspiron 530a/b) You should Read this before Entering in Skyrim  Tom's Hardware Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim: PC Performance, Benchmarked

A silly question about hard drives
samadchaz replied to RitualBlack's topic in Hardware and software discussion
option 1 yes you have to format if you don't want dual boot and for drivers their files (inf) needs setup means you have to install those too you should install windows into ssd and storage in hybrid
