That's probably the tricky part. I just want something that'll fit right in in Fallout 4 & Skyrim quality wise. I'd say the goal is for it to not look stupid if somebody wears the outfit in Diamond City or Whiterun like who is this clown with the crayon outfit and the weapon out of Minecraft. This. If you stick with it long enough, you'll have a hard time stopping, even when it gets frustrating and you kinda hate it. I think I'll get hooked once I can make the kind of stuff I want. It's a bit frustrating being stuck since there's tons of Fallout 4 mods I can try plus a bunch of other games I can play so it can get frustrating doing "nothing"(ie spending time in the programs but nothing in the way of results being outputted). It'll be really awesome when there's a tangible sense that if there's stuff I want I can simply just put it in game after x amount of hours. It might be a personality thing since in a game like World of Warcraft I could anticipate rewards if they were fairly certain like faction rep rewards but I don't feel motivated when the only things to go for are say a ~5% drop chance. Similarly I greatly dislike the recent trend in games to add lootboxes, it's cool when it's limited to cosmetic stuff but I hate the idea of locking actual progression behind it(Middle Earth Shadow of War & EA's Star Wars Battlefront 2). I find not many people are making anime mods anymore. Maybe it's because of the people who complained about anime mods but I think it'd be more accepted if the modder adapts it to FO4 artstyle. As in, few people are going to want to add cell-shaded style models into their game as it'll visually clash with everything else in the game. I think the trick is to take things a step further and add realistic material detail rather than leaving the clothing as a mostly solid color like is normal in anime games since they use cell shading. I'd seen some Naruto mods on Skyrim Nexus but I didn't add them even as an anime fan since they were mostly solid colors, resembling stuff from Ultimate Ninja Storm. They'd just look weird next to other NPCs in Skyrim but maybe it'd be different if there were material details similar to the original clothing in Skyrim. I was thinking about what I'd want for a stealth character since I hadn't made one and I'd like to make Kakashi or Itachi. Although maybe I'd put Itachi in Fallout 4 too since his VA is actually in Fallout 4. I was a fan of classic JRPGs but now my interest has shifted towards certain anime series. I wonder how people make hairs? If I can get UVs going good maybe I can try making a hair that uses an existing texture. Some of the ones in the Fallout 4 hair packs are just unbeatable IMO. Thanks! I was in Max a little bit but was getting a headache trying to use quarter screen. I like using guides but I also like just seeing what I can do, that way if I get sudden idea I can go right in to just try it. I see about Illustrator, probably isn't anything of any usefulness or interest to me.

Wow this is really awesome! I wasn't even specifically looking for weather proof stuff but checked topic anyways. Pretty cool there's tiles that do that so I think I will give them a try. This solved another thing I wondered about, adding our own interiors & elevators between interior/exteriors to a settlement! I think at least for initially building/visualizing a potential location I'd like to first try using the building interface rather than CK Can I ask where to find the door to anywhere mod and basement living?

Strange forum code bug, it keeps adding end quote tags to the bottom of the post automatically. Tell me more. In max main thing I didn't like although I only try briefly were the 4 screen split. On a 4K monitor each region still looks quite small so it makes things difficult. They are cool to have but I wish I could toggle to a single viewpoint at a time. They are incredibly expensive but it might be possible to get a Student license. Same here. Learning to do things in the beginning seems like the hardest part. Editing textures yes but what about creating textures? Best thing is probably to try doing that so there aren't any issues due to permissions and such. Or maybe author whose file you used as a resource goes AWOL and takes all his stuff down, it would likely not be allowed to use his file as a resource anymore.

Building settlements in creation kit
fftfan replied to steamtacular's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
You can get around this to an extent. Place NPC guards from USO or Robot Home Defense, these don't get replaced. Add some custom NPCs through CK, I made PA guards since I think enemies with PA should be a bit tougher and their armor shouldn't all quickly break in combat. Also what I was thinking I'd do if I did this in CK is just make it an initially hostile settlement rather than using NW quest. Maybe make little plugins where raiders or whoever had taken over the settlements. Maybe on a new game when you go to say Abernathy Farm there's Gunners controlling the settlement complete with Sentry Bots, Assaultrons and high tech turrets. -
I know right? After seeing some of the funny gifs I was doubtful I would be able to take the story seriously. I also wondered if Bioware took the game seriously, releasing the game despite the ridiculous glitches that they surely had to have been aware of. Maybe I will look at one of these Let's Play episodes some time, if for nothing other than comedy. Although Vanilla Oblivion faces were pretty bad mods can do a lot to help. Vanilla Oblivion sure but I think I'd prefer OCO 2 faces over ME Andromeda(although that could be the fault of the 360 degree turning heads).

Can I just copy over the really big files like >1GB B2A's? Mainly I'm thinking I'd do this for the HD DLC(60GB total) & a few of the larger mods. I'm using a 600W currently. According to pcparts picker my build uses about 349W. I think it'd be borderline if I went SLI GTX 1080s as it said it would go up to 539W. Since the 1080's & i7 use a kind of dynamic clock where they'll up things a little for extra power, like the 1080 can go to 1.9/2 Ghz from the automatic boosting. This is without trying to do any regular overclocking and it happens automatically so technically it could kick in for a sec even on a game like Oblivion as it'll up the power a bit when it senses the current operation can benefit. I'd bought a 750W originally but it arrived dead so I refunded it and just got a 600W since I didn't think SLI would be really worth it.

Building settlements in creation kit
fftfan replied to steamtacular's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
That's in the Nuka World raiding quest yes. They got replaced by level 1 Militiamen with pipe rifles and like no armor. At least I'm pretty sure they were level 1, they died instantly when hit even by the raiders who join you(whom I think might be leveled but have basic weapons like Short Handmade Rifle or Short Combat Rifle). I know right? First time I tried I'd set up all my settlers with Ballistic Weave & legendary weapons. -
I'm starting to think about changing mine perhaps when I begin uploading stuff. Starting to wonder if people see the name and go "oh a troll/****poster/foolish person." On other sites it does seem a bit like the FF username people are only around for the LOLs or causing trouble due to boredom. If I become a mod author I don't want to assumed to be a troublemaker or a fool. I'm kind of not really an FF fan anymore, I only like IV-X, X-2(somewhat), XII & FF Tactics. I hated FFXIII, didn't buy the sequels and I ignored the MMOs. FF mobile games like FFRK & FFBE being simple gambling-based microtransaction cash grabs. I was also quite disappointed with FF XV and am finding it hard to be excited about VII Remake. I replay the old ones from time to time but am having less interest in the newer ones

That is quite strange. Usually this sort of thing is due to an ad. When I have seen that icon it has been from an ad trying to forcibly redirect me or open a popup. I now always run 2 adblockers due to having been served trojans and other malware from website advertising, and I am not talking clicking on the ad. I have gotten viruses simply from the banner ad rendering on my browser. I associate that icon with potential bad actions on the part of advertisers. I feel bad for sites like Nexus since it is not their fault rather it's the careless advertising provider at fault for not preventing this kind of problem and typically people will blame the website if bad ads show up. It seems to me like advertising network providers do little to nothing to stop malware creators from exploiting their networks. I additionally use Sandboxie & Shadow Defender if I need to visit potentially questionable/unsafe websites. Is it possible to see more info about it? I think Nexus has a link for reporting bad advertising. On a side note this reminded me to go buy Supporter membership. I guess I am naive about this stuff but may I ask why? Actually in that SnB topic I was thinking some of my posts were kinda pointless so I was wishing I can just delete them. I just deleted the settlement I was working on and disabled that mod anyways so my posts were unnecessary. I had a tech issue thread which I resolved but I doubt anyone else would have that same issue so I feel like the topic is pointless too. Other forums I used keeps archived stuff so if for example somebody is flaming people then deleting the post you can report them and say in the notes that they are doing that then the moderator will check archive and find it. This usually means heightened punishments since it's a deliberate action on their part to escape punishment(ie The offending users actions demonstrate that they are knowingly violating the rules and are trying to do so anyways plus avoid punishment). I actually had typed a bit about this but I deleted it because I didn't think there are any people around who would be foolish enough to try such lame tricks on the Nexus forum. Any who would be are probably long gone by now. On the other site you'd get a instant suspension if you make a flagrantly bad post insulting somebody then delete it(with idea that recipient sees the post but not the mods) because it's a double offense, the rule violated by the post in question plus attempting to circumvent the ToU. And if your account goes into "Purgatory" an Admin will go over everything (I'm assuming they'd check the deleted stuff). Purgatory means user's banned unless the Admin decides to let them come back. They review your total history as a user. I've never gotten moderated so don't know more of the details. I'd seen a couple trolls use the post-deleting for bad reasons but they end up getting banned soon after. It's a Final Fantasy board so the trolling is really bad there. But I'm sure Nexus' ToU already would cover this kind of stuff. Like this: If it is a pain then offending people would probably just be gone the first time they do it. It would be explained to us via a ToS update. But I understand if Nexus does not wish to enable post/topic deletion. I haven't been an active user for very long so maybe I just don't know about this stuff. I never really see trolling going on around here so I figure they all must have been banned already. I do wonder if I should have gone for a new username. I feel like with Final Fantasy's awful track record recently I sort of wonder if Final Fantasy usernames might get associated with trolling. And it'll be 10 times worse if FF VII Remake turns out bad too. I am basically only an FF fan of the old school ones. I want to get Premium but low on cash, guess I might make new account eventually and just make that one Premium.

I'd like to make a suggestion about the forums themselves and maybe I've happened upon good timing since there's the redesign happening. Adding an option enabling users to: Entirely delete their posts after the fact. Topic creators to delete their topic after the fact. A possible restriction to this would be if other users have made recent posts it could perhaps include a notification inside the topic that the topic creator has requested deletion of the topic that way if people were having a separate discussion within the topic they could then reopen the topic or move it to PMs. Or preventing a deletion request outright if the topic is fairly active like >1 post per hour until some time passes without any posts. This is mainly about if I've made a topic and later decide I am not interested in the topic anymore. I'd just leave the topic alone in the case of other people using it. But I'd delete if nobody posts and I'm also not interested anymore since it's just clutter. Like for example if I had a technical issue which I later resolve it on my own and I don't think the solution is likely to help others. The exact topic is about Oblivion causing system crashes, turned out it was due to uncapped FPS, solved by setting a 60fps limit(Skyrim and Fallout 4 already do this by default).

Sorry about late reply. I had typed up a reply already but don't know what happened. UV mapping was the biggest obstacle since it made it really difficult to try to gain an understand the texturing process which I had already been disinterested in on my old PC. My specs were really bad so I wouldn't be able to even use anything with decent textures. All I wanted to do at that point is pretty much make discount textures that run on the weakest hardware possible so trying to get UVs working in Blender was an unwelcome obstacle. Now I have better hardware so that isn't any limitation anymore but there's so much stuff to learn about I'm not sure where to start! I see about the modifiers, I'd seen the seams thought it must have wrecked either the UV map or materials.

I believe I have found a solution by setting an FPS limit of 60 in nVidia Inspector. I just set a global limit in it to 60fps(why not since my display is 60hz?). Noise is gone in game so far and utilization values are normal. I was seriously wondering why Oblivion caused 100% utilization when even Fallout 4 typically doesn't. I guess there are issues caused by super high FPS since 2006 hardware is a lot weaker. Didn't figure this would be necessary since Skyrim & Fallout automatically limit FPS to 60.

I believe I have found a solution by setting an FPS limit of 60 in nVidia Inspector. I'd go ahead and delete this topic but AFAIK we can't? Short version: Can these sort of occurrences lead to actual damage to my components? How can I run & save benchmarks so I can record and go over exactly what was happening as the loud noise + shutdown occurred? I don't know if this will always happen but it happened once and I want to be sure I'm not in danger of destroying my PC. Hi I've been using current PC for about a month now and I just tried installing an old game on my new PC because I just wanted to see if it'd look any different on my new PC which is a lot stronger than my old one. I used to play TES IV Oblivion on my old PC and was just trying it last night on my new PC. Old specs: GT 330m, i5-480m 2.67Ghz, 8GB ddr3 700mhz, 600GB HDD(Pre-SATA) New specs: MSI GTX 1080, i7-7700, 8GB DDR4 3200mhz, 500GB 850 EVO But when ingame I get a loud noise like maybe fans are on max and it made my PC restart after a few minutes just simply standing in the cell at the very beginning. I am only trying New Game, I don't care about continuing with my old saves since it's been years. I'd like to benchmark my system and save the results since I'm concerned if the shutdown could have been due to overheating and stuff. It even happens when I turned the settings way down & use 800x600, there are no apparent differences in running 4K or anything all the way down to 800x600. I believe my system should be okay since I can run Fallout 4 on 4K maximum settings w/ HD DLC/200+ mods and still can get like 40fps average so it is producing results that are consistent with what a 1080 w/ i7-7700 should be getting. It still runs if I throw in an ENB on top of it, I wouldn't say the performance is great but the game ran and there was no hard crashes shutting my computer off. GTA V more or less getting perfect 60fps with everything maxed on 4K, if there are any drops I haven't noticed them after playing half the story. Just saying since I don't think my components are all defective I've tried stuff like MSI Afterburner but as soon as I alt-tab out the fans/noise stop and temp appears normal. I do not get any major noise or shutdowns when playing new games on 4K like Fallout 4, GTAV, Skyrim, Dark Souls 3. I am not sure if the noise is from the fans because system stays pretty quiet on the newer games. There are random "clicks" but I think it's the fans stopping, they probably are running on a lower % and it can happen also shortly after exiting a game. They appear to being working great for everything else I play. I would like to record results of my gaming session to see if there's anything weird like GPU/CPU temp going really high before shutdown or power usage going really high. Also I can't find any option to try running the game on integrated graphics. That was what I was thinking of trying next since Oblivion is an 11 year old game maybe the iGPU would work but no option in the menu for Intel HD Graphics 630. I want to try XP compatibility mode since I read that being suggested for Oblivion on Windows 10 but I'm hesitant until I know why this stuff is happening. I don't want to damage my components. I am not running any mods other than CCC & OCO2 just the official patches and DLC. I just want to go see in-game first & customize my character on a new game so I didn't install stuff yet. I had a bit of stuff before but I was getting CTDs so I just figured let's just turn off everything but the official stuff and appearance stuff

Building settlements in creation kit
fftfan replied to steamtacular's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
I'm also curious about this. What you can do if you want to test out existing settlements you made on higher level save you can use Transfer Settlements. But if you already have a good idea of what you want in the settlement then I'd say CK settlement is the next step. I'm hoping to do this as well but I'm also looking into learning 3D modeling. Lots of stuff to learn. Challenge level seemed to be pretty good using UCO NPC guards(given legendary weapons), Robot Defense assaultrons/sentry bots, PTRS AMR's turrets, and some quick legendary PA guards I made who are based on BOS Star Paladins but with customized Minutemen T45 PA which has X-01 stats and super durability. I didn't place settlers since they disappear when you raid it and get replaced by Level 1 Militiamen. I gave the minutemen PA guards Explosive Combat Shotguns and the other guards Never-Ending Handmade Rifles. There is in fact something to note here if you are wanting to potentially share anything related to this. Avoid using a mod as a resource if it's been taken down. I had a pretty good settlement going with Snap N Build but the mod has been taken down by the author and no permissions have been given for the mod. Therefore I would not be allowed to share the settlement. So I've deleted it and will start over using other mods like Homemaker and Master Plan instead. Thankfully there's no shortage of great building sets on Nexus! -
Same as me. I used Blender 2.49b originally and have been away for a good number of years. I've been away so long since my old system with GT330M/2.67Ghz dual core barely ran Skyrim(like 20fps average with everything on minimum plus further ini hacks to make the game more lightweight and I even tried DOSkyrim but it didn't help for some reason) and I've only just upgraded. It basically looked and performed worse than on Xbox 360. Although I'm deciding to switch to a new 3D modeling program mainly because these reasons: Still no proper Nif support for Skyrim/Fallout 4. There's the workarounds but it seems like some of the data like materials get lost in the process, I found that if you copy over material data from a vanilla outfit the end result looks off.The devs have stopped working on it at least as far as supporting TES/Fallout goes.UV system just wouldn't work well for me, I tried both the automatic methods and hand-placing seams for unwrapping. Tried recreating the UV maps on vanilla stuff in-case it was something to do with my models but same results.I could have tried Blender 2.6 but I'm thinking it may be just as well to switch to 3DS or Maya and/or Zbrush instead. I'd really love to though I wonder if this would mean I have to maybe try getting tied into that Creation Club stuff. One of the authors said you get to learn from Bethesda people so it sounds like probably the main way to go for potential career. I'd obviously love to learn skills from Bethesda but CC means putting a price on your stuff and that will lock people out of it. I think it'd be a little bit better if content went free after a timeline like say 6 months. Not sure how I feel since the whole thing seems like it might go against the spirit of free modding. There's a ton of cool content on the Nexus which shows what is possible and I have to wonder how much of it wouldn't exist today had the game launched with a paid mods system or a Creation Club from the beginning. I think a lot of it happened because the authors tried really cool stuff they liked at some point and this inspired them to look into the game more in-depth and start developing skills to make their own mods. Whereas if the mods they wanted to try were paid content they may have just said no and never gotten more into Fallout 4 modding. I mean putting a CC style price on every mod I have installed I'm sure the total would be $500 USD or more. Sim Settlements would be like $20-30 and each addon pack would be $5 or $10. But I might try the old fashioned way and go to uni for Computer Science or something so who knows.

My system currently has a 500GB Samsung 850 EVO and a 2TB HDD for backup. I'm finding the SSD performance to be fantastic but as a Bethesda games fan who likes Fallout 4, Skyrim and Oblivion I'm having to take care to not run out of space, so I was thinking of buying another SSD. I'm finding it won't be feasible to also leave other big games like GTA V on the SSD. My motherboard has an m.2 slot so I am thinking of getting a 960 EVO either a 500GB or 1TB since I think Fallout 4 could stand to benefit even more from a faster SSD and the files size are a lot larger since my folder's at 125GB after 1 month(albeit I do have the 60GB HD DLC installed). My plan would be to relocate Fallout 4 to the newer SSD and leave my 850 EVO to be used by Skyrim/Oblivion/GTA V/a choice multiplayer game plus general usage like the modding programs and leave a good amount of headroom to allow max performance. Would it break my install or cause big problems if I wanted to just move Fallout 4 to a different drive?

Game CTDs at startup after last update.
fftfan replied to ArmoredTroll's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
I seemed to be having a similar issue to this. I read on here somewhere a suggestion to update all our F4SE-dependent mods. Tried it and everything's working well again. Just a suggestion as I'd hate for Creation Club to drive more people away from the game -
I can definitely say your textures are high quality! Didn't initially recognize you but I found I'm using a bunch of your mods when I checked your page. Even been using Crude Blowback on Xbox One last year. Will go through and endorse them all. It'd be a dream come true if I could have such versatility in texturing. Modeling I will make stuff for Fallout 4/Skyrim/Oblivion. And I might consider getting Star-field when it's out but space sims aren't my kind of thing. I will spend some more time in 3DS Max. I hope to have high control over the model so I can also make a good UV map. Maybe texturing would be slightly easier that way, it doesn't look quite so bad in tutorial videos when they get a very good unwrap. I will look into Substance Painter & Marmoset Toolbag 3. So far I didn't really like Photoshop for texture creation. It's great for modifying an existing one like if you want to do a recolor or something else that's fairly easy. But for trying to make brand new textures from scratch I didn't like it. On my old monitor I had 1368x768 but now I'm playing on 4K so low res/low quality stuff sticks out like a sore thumb. With stuff like guns it might have been fine on my old screen but now if a weapon had poor textures it would look like my character is holding some kind of cheap toy. The level of quality I want would be closer to something like your textures but I'm not much of one for hand-painting/drawing. Part of my difficulty could have been from using Blender 2.49b in the past, UV mapping never worked well so it made the texturing process much harder to understand.

Is it okay to use Scrapall on a Conquest Settlement if I decide I want to totally get rid of a settlement. I was building in a spot in Nuka World at the border by Hubologists camp but I found it wasn't a great location performance-wise for a very large settlement so I used Scrapall since Dissolve Settlement caused crashes. Navmesh thing could be an issue since enemies spawn directly inside the former build area. If I end up having to make a new game, no real big deal I suppose as I haven't played that long.

I'm currently learning 3D modeling but am still a beginner. I also want to learn texturing but don't really know anything. What I have done in each are basic recoloring in Gimp/Photoshop and mainly conversion of outfits between body types in TES IV Oblivion. I used blender for modeling but my understanding is the program isn't really viable for Fallout 4 modding and the developer has stopped working on Blender at least as far as Nif support goes. So I am going to learn a new program either 3DS Max or Maya. I'd be willing to contribute if you could help me learn. I've got 3ds max, maya, gimp ready to go. I suggest checking out One Punch Man & My Hero Academia. Excellent design and I think they would fit in well in Fallout! They have pretty good stories so the best way to become familiar is to watch them(Or I can tell you about them, I've watched the entirety of both). For example I think All Might would be a perfect fit as a Fallout superhero. If I had super great skills in 3D modeling & texturing as well as the ability to create awesome new hairs like in Commonwealth Cuts here's my picks. This would be a very challenging project but might be possible since you have skills in animation. Some animations would be needed like their poses and for example Bakugo's fire blasts(I don't know of any existing mod with hand blast/wrist blasters similar to Iron Man for example). One For All's speed strength would be represented by a VATS blitz that's animated rather than a teleport. If this stuff doesn't fit tell me more about what you want Are these characters already designed/written? If so tell me more about the characters. Or would the artists create their own designs?
-
I second this! An .esl would be perfect for my personal plugin I use to reduce plugin count, both avoiding dirty edits & allow even more mods to be installed. I'm at 200 and it seems like more cool stuff is arriving every day

I wasn't able to get 0.5.0 f4se working with game 1.10.20 but I have now gotten 0.6.0 working with game 1.10.26 although I have experienced slower performance than when I was on 1.9.4/0.4.2. Could the Bethesda update have reduced performance? I don't care about CC stuff I just wanted to be able to use the latest version of f4se mods like Transfer Settlements

That's really weird. I'd try getting LOOT to optimize your load order and find out more about any problems. I'm just having a little bit of issues since I decided to get rid of Snap N Build in my Conquest settlement in Nuka world by Hubologist Camp. After the update I starting experiencing lag in the area and it persists even after using ScrapAll and getting rid of the settlers. I just used LOOT and if there's still issues I'll try cleaning dirty edits and stuff. By the way I am going to start over making my custom settlement and I plan to use Home Maker so it's possible I might run into this issue too. I'll post again if I do run into this.
