moveing mods to a new game
Thandal replied to dbm2047's topic in Dragon Age: Origins's Mod Troubleshooting
Ever since patch 1.03, mods that add items directly to the inventory will FAIL with a brand-new game. Work-around is as follows: 1. Disable/Remove the add-item mods. 2. Start your new game. 3. Play until you are able to make your first save. 4. SAVE. 5. Exit the game. 6. Reenable/Restore the add-items mods. 7. Start game. 8. Load SAVE. Your items should now appear in your inventory. -
Sorry you're haveing problems, pajklee. When you say you "have some DLC for DAO", what do you mean? If you use the in-game "Downloadable Content" method, you don't have to start DAUpdater at all. The game will do everything for you. It is, in fact, somewhat complicated to obtain and install BioWare DLC WITHOUT doing it that way. So some more information might help us help you.

DAO: UE and the CFF editor
Thandal replied to endersblade's topic in Dragon Age: Origins's Mod Troubleshooting
BioWare has NEVER "supported" modding the game. They released the Toolset as a favour, and have only said that they *might* release one for DA2. There was the one fix to it (v1.01) for an actual coding bug, but not even an update for Awakening. -
DAO: UE and the CFF editor
Thandal replied to endersblade's topic in Dragon Age: Origins's Mod Troubleshooting
This isn't a BioWare thing. As I said, the UE version and the non-UE version are identical. And I'll bet the Steam version and the non-Steam version are too. This is a STEAM thing, and BioWare doesn't have anything to do with it... (Or do you mean that BioWare should correct whatever it is that causes daorigins.exe to crash in the first place? Now THAT, I'd agree, is their problem! ) -

No, Print Screen in Windows 7 works essentially the way it always has under Windows. BioWare MAY have done a poor job of coding the RESULT of hitting PrntScrn under Win7, but ever since Win 3.0 (remember installing from floppies?) hitting that key has put the contents of the screen into a memory buffer for the user to "do something" with them. For those who care, in the pre-Windows (e.g. DOS) days, it used to dump the contents directly to the "LPT1" port, (connected to which was usually, but not necesarily, "Line Printer #1". )

mods in old save file
Thandal replied to mattsslug's topic in Dragon Age: Origins's Mod Troubleshooting
Welcome, mattsslug; Good question. IF the mods you're talking about were installed as ".dazip" files and appeared on the "Installed Content" screen, then there SHOULD be a way to retrieve that info. They will be listed as "missing" when you try to load the save, so their names are stored somewhere in the .das! But if they were in your "\override" folder as stand-alone mods, then you're outta' luck. -
DAO: UE and the CFF editor
Thandal replied to endersblade's topic in Dragon Age: Origins's Mod Troubleshooting
Sorry, mate. Sounds like Steam is doing a good job of ensuring the integrity of the exeutables under its control, jsut like it's supposed to! Maybe it does this for ALL files obtained through the service... The fact that the user has to "give up all control of patching" for the programs installed via Steam is one of the main reasons I resist using it. I only have two such games, and one was received as a gift. -
spoiler Ending with Alistair question
Thandal replied to wolfman1911's topic in Dragon Age: Origins's Discussion
Welcome Wolfman; Without using a "cheat", there is no way to both recruit Loghain AND keep Alistair around in any capacity. He will either leave, or be executed, at the end of the Landsmeet if you choose to let Loghain live. The BioWare writers did not provide any other options. There *is* a way to "resurrect" Loghain and let him do the deed in the final battle, but it involves using the Command Console to achieve an ending that the Writers worked very hard to prevent being possible. -
Character player Mop file location
Thandal replied to Tommy6860's topic in Dragon Age: Origins's Discussion
Hey Tommy; There is no ".mop" created from using the CC. The "presets", (that's what the .mop files are) are the starting points. The result of your customization in the CC is the ".mor" (for "morph") file. You can use the Toolset to build a NEW .mrh file, then export it as a .mop or a .mor, depending on what you want to do with it. The .mor is stored in your saved game (the ".das" file) and can be extracted using "DA Face Replacer", or one of the other similar utilities. -

Dunno about your Win7 rig, Codifer, but on mine things work exactly as WastelandAssassin and I described. I've had Win7 since well before I got DA, and haven't ever installed or played it on anything else. Never had any reason to mess with the keybindings for the Print Screen function, and have no idea what "special file" yours were going to. Maybe you could do some more digging and put up deatails so we'll have more complete information? Thanks!

DAO: UE and the CFF editor
Thandal replied to endersblade's topic in Dragon Age: Origins's Mod Troubleshooting
I don't use that approach, I use the FO3 "Large Memory Area Flag" fix. Have been since 1.03, and am now on the UE myself. Never had a problem using the header-edited version. Still have very occasional CtD issues, but nothing like the "every 10 minutes" nightmare before I found it. And there is absolutely ZERO difference between the UE version of "daorigins.exe" and the patch 1.04 version. None. Bit-for-bit, they're identical, (ran FC against them.) -
4gb enabler for Ultimate edition?
Thandal replied to angelsavior9mm's topic in Dragon Age: Origins's Mod Troubleshooting
So, are you Steam-install players absolutely sure you edited the "daorigins.exe" header correctly? Because there is absolutely ZERO difference between the UE version of "daorigins.exe" and the patch 1.04 version. None. Bit-for-bit, they're identical, (ran FC against them.) I've been running with the FO3 "Large Memory Area Flag" fix since 1.03, and am now on the UE myself. Never had a problem using the header-edited version. Still have very occasional CtD issues, but nothing like the "every 10 minutes" nightmare before I found it. -
DAModder has stopped working
Thandal replied to FastBlackCat's topic in Dragon Age: Origins's Mod Troubleshooting
(Well, I don't use DAM myself, I use DAMM. But if DAM is like DAMM, then...) It really isn't "installed", in the sense of an ordinary Windows installation. It's just an executable that's put in a folder somewhere. Just download a fresh copy (to make sure you have the latest version and a clean copy) then uncompress it and put it back. I give mine its own folder in my "\packages\core" folder, one above "\override". -
(PETITION) unskippable video adds cross the line
Thandal replied to mikeloeven's topic in Site Support
@mikeloven; All true, for US/Canada. Much LESS common in the rest of the world. Broadband isn't even available in many places. In others the provider is State-owned/controlled with no competition, and in still others even though there may be some choice in provider, they all meter usage and charge more for more. -
As the newest Moderator here at the Nexus, I don't have enough experience to even imagine ALL the possible situations, but on the face of it, I cannot picture a situation where we would ever "deny" the deletion of files. For all files/mods that meet the Terms of Service ("working", "not malware", "not inappropriate/illegal") that means the decision to make the mod available is left totally up to the author. The position of this site is that mods "belong", (in the sense of having control over their publication and distribution) to their authors; not to Nexus, nor even "the Community". If authors choose to share their works with the rest of us, great. If, for WHATEVER reasons, they change their minds, that's fine too. Here at the Nexus, we will respect their wishes.

Felicia Day Stars in new Dragon Age Series
Thandal replied to hiybbprqag's topic in Dragon Age: Origins's Discussion
Now I've watched the trailer, and agree that they seem to be playing it "straight". (Or as straight as Felicia Day can, seeing as how she wrote and co-produced the series, and stars in it as an elf assassin named Tallis with a "really sarcastic sense of humor." ) -
WastelandAssassin is correct. Within that folder will be sub-folders for "Achievements", "Story", and "User". The first two are for screenshots the game takes automatically. The last one is where the ones you take with "PrtScrn" are placed. NOTE: DA adds metadata to the image (point in the game, EA Profile ID, character names, etc.) that will prevent it from displaying properly if you simply "post" the screenshot anywhere except the BioWare website. You have to open it and re-save it under a new name in order to have something useable elsewhere.

Seriously? After over 90 days of silence? I think this falls into the category of "Thread Necromancy". Putting the poor thing out of its misery now.

cant open damm
Thandal replied to crystaldragonz's topic in Dragon Age: Origins's Mod Troubleshooting
Sorry, crystaldragonz, I didn't realize that's where you were in all this. Those mods are COMPRESSED for distribution. They aren't usable by ANYTHING in that form. You have to "uncompress" them using the right utility program before you can get them into your game. That particular type of compressed file is created with this: "7-zip.org". But other utility programs (latest version of WinZip, for example) can also deal with this format. You might want to check this article for a better picture of the various kinds of mods: "Using DA Mods for Dummies". Happy (Modded) Gaming!
