  1. So I first tried this mod. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/17 I used NMM. It didn't work at all. I just figured it might just be the mod. So I started a new game and just went without that mod. I installed this mod: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13687 I used NMM, and the mod would not activate. So then I used Steam Workshop on the same mod, and it would not activate. I did a manual install, and it would not activate. I thought maybe it is just the mod, but I was starting to wonder if it is my computer instead. Was there an update to a new version for Skyrim very recently? Maybe one for right before Dragonborn hit? Maybe that could explain why those mods aren't working. Or maybe it is my computer. Before starting a new game, I did a clean reinstall of Skyrim. Maybe something went wrong. It could be something like that, or it could be a new Skyrim update. I had four mods that change the appearance of 4 different NPCs. They were working ten days ago. A few days ago, I had to uninstall each one, as any one of them made the game CTD right after the Bethesda logo. If there was an update to a new version of Skyrim recently, maybe that problem and my other problems are due to the new version.
  2. At first, I was like "nah", but then I played the video and ran it for like 5 minutes. Somebody make this mod happen.
  3. If you are starting a new game — an entirely new game, not loading a 'clean' save — you can just uninstall mods without running any special procedure. What usually gets left behind in mods that require special uninstall procedures are scripts that are running continually. If you delete the mod without stopping that script, your save game will continue to have that script running, perhaps forever, leading to big problems. So that save game and any save game that had ever used the script becomes unusable. An entirely new game would not have the same problem. One caveat, the above is only true if you are correctly uninstalling your mods. If you are using NMM to uninstall mods, you're probably good, but if you've installed mods manually and then attempted to remove them manually, you may be leaving files behind in your data folder by accident. If you are unsure if you have bits of old mods left behind, you can delete your data folder then verify your Skyrim install in Steam to re-download your proper game files and then install the mods you want again with NMM. Kudos to you. This information was helpful, and the last bit could come in handy (deleting data folder and using the verify game cache tool; that could come in handy in the future).
  4. Some of us Skyrim players like to add more immersion to our playing experiences. Maybe by a little, maybe by a lot. I have an idea for a mod that I'm sure some will like. My idea is a mod that limits how many potions and poisons - both those found in the game world and player created ones - can be carried. Make the mod have an in game menu where players can then choose what they want for a limit. Let it have a high cap, such as 100 or 120 or something like that. Then allow players to modify the limit in increments of one from anywhere between the cap down to a single potion. If someone wants to choose 100, they can. If someone wants 40 or 7 or 20, they can choose what they like. It can be recommended for it to be used with a backpack mod (adding immersion by allowing the player to imagine the character has a means to carry several/many potions with them) and the Bandolier mod, which has pouches which show vials being held. (See image: http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/7032/examplenexus.jpg) What do you guys think? I think some people might like this idea. This mod would add some more challenge to the game, as well, as players would have to manage what they can bring with them, limiting how many beneficial potions/harmful poisons they can carry, and it requires management because they'd have to allow some headroom for potions and poisons they find in the world/get as loot/buy, etc.
  5. First of all, I know that some mods have special instructions for how to uninstall them. I know that if you uninstall said mods without following instructions, it'll create problems for you. But here is my situation... I had about 68 mods installed. I just did a clean reinstall of Skyrim. I uninstalled it, deleted the Skyrim folder in steamapps, deleted the Skyrim folder in the My Games folder, run CCleaner (a tool that fixes registry issues), and then I reinstalled Skyrim. Then I installed SKSE, activated a little under 70 mods in NMM, sorted out the load order, and went to play Skyrim, and...every time I launched the game, it'd crash to desktop right after the Bethesda logo. Btw, I'm not picking up any game saves, I want to start a new game from the beginning. So anyway, I deactivated all my mods via NMM, even though a few have special instructions... So, I deactivate all the mods, and Skyrim loads. I can get to the screen where you can choose New Game, Continue, and Load. So I have a mod that isn't working out. Okay, cool, I just gotta figure out which one not to use. The issue is simple to fix. Now, what about deactivating all my mods hap-hazardously? Do I have to worry about that and it leading to issues if I start a new game? Should I do a clean reinstall of Skyrim now? Or is it all nullified because I didn't actually play the game with all those mods activated, I don't have any saves with those mods and with all the scripts, and thus, it was harmless to just activate all those mods and then simply deactivate each one via NMM?
  6. I was thinking about that. I have very little experience with the creation kit, but it should be easy to make an "empty spell" that does nothing when cast, right? Because that is what I'd do. I'd make a spell that you cast that doesn't actually do anything, it is just labeled as a "buoyancy" spell or "spell of swimming" and it'd be all about doing a little bit of role playing once you cast the spell ("Oh boy, now I can swim in my heavy armor! hurr" )
  7. It's not really the weapon itself that's trash: it's the associated perks. Hack and Slash, Bonebreaker and Bladesman are all practically wasted perks considering what good they do (because like you said, nothing has significant armor rating and the other two scale very, very poorly). I'd recommend skipping Reflect Blows, Matching Set, Tower of Strength (doesn't work AT ALL in vanilla) and possibly Well Fitted (and 1-5 ranks of Juggernaut) depending on what type of armor and/or shield you plan on using. I would also recommend skipping Conditioning, Cushioned and Fists of Steel unless you plan on using a standing stone instead of the Steed Stone (after you have finished leveling all your important skills of course). Two things I would recommend are Quick Reflexes and Shield Charge (although I'd skip the 5/5 Shield Wall because it just isn't necessary). Skip the 1h weapon based perks entirely (axe/mace/sword) as they're all worthless. As for the speech perks, personally I would skip 5/5 Haggling in favor of something like 1/5 Haggling/Allure/Merchant/Investor and maybe a few points in Pickpocket for 1/5 Light Fingers/Night Thief/Extra Pockets, but that just comes down to what utility perks you would prefer, if any (I prefer extra carrying capacity over everything else). I followed some of your advice on the perk calculator. This is what I ended up with. http://skyrimcalculator.com/254857 The questions I ask are for anyone in this thread. I have perks to spare with this build, so I kept the perks in haggling. I might need 5/5 in haggling and allure. I don't want money via very easy means. I could pump perks into alchemy and be rich from selling potions, but that wouldn't be fun. I want to get most of my money from adventuring and finding loot and selling loot. That'd be a more fun way to get money. The lockpicking perks Golden Touch and Treasure Hunter will help me to make more money. Since I won't have a get rich scheme, having several perks in haggling will do good for me, as I'll be spending a lot of money on healing potions and resist shock and resist fire potions. I dunno what to do about Extra Pockets. I'd like this perk, but my character won't be a pickpocket, so it'd be out of character to have her going around picking pockets until she reaches level 50 in the skill so that she can have that perk. I could raise my carry capacity via the bandolier mod, a backpack mod I found, and via The Steed Stone. I want to use The Steed Stone. Should I activate The Warrior Stone and stick with that until I get high levels in heavy armor and one-handed, and then go for The Steed Stone, or should I go for the Steed Stone right away? Not worth it? It is better to just raise my warrior skills first? I have perks to spare. The perk calculator link only goes up to level 40. What should I spend perks on? Should I put some perks into two-handed if I have nothing else to invest in? I wouldn't mind having some fun with some two-handed swords. Should I get paralyzing strike, or is it too cheap? Is shield charge too cheap, or will both those perks really come in handy with higher level enemies?
  8. I see what you mean, and it makes sense, but I was thinking of removing the heavy armor and swimming, regardless of encumbrance, due to immersion. Now, the encumbrance idea you bring up makes sense, but going around with tons of loot already is unrealistic and kills immersion regardless. You know, it breaks immersion, but it is good to be able to carry around a lot of things. I'm not super picky with increasing immersion, but I like to increase immersion when I can, without going so far that it starts to create hassles and take the fun outta playing the game.
  9. Is there armor made from frost bear fur? Anything from a mod? I might carry around some fur armor for when I need to get to an area that requires you to swim in order to get to. This way, I have some basic armor, and it'll be light, so carrying it around won't add too much to my carry weight. When I'm done swimming around in the water, I'll just go back to the armor I normally wear.
  10. I'm going to start a new character soon and will opt for heavy armor. Realistically, you can't swim in heavy armor. Doing so in the game would break immersion. I found the mod Better Swimming, which would add more immersion. I was thinking, maybe what I could start doing is strip the character when I want to swim. I was thinking also, maybe instead of striping the character naked, is to put on some fur armor for swimming instead (I could carry around fur armor). If you were to add more immersion with swimming, which would you choose. Do any of you try to make swimming more immersive, especially when it comes to using heavy armor? Also, is there a mod that makes it so that you can't swim in heavy armor?
  11. I have a revised build. http://skyrimcalculator.com/254387 What if I ditched the "restoration knight" build and just went for a character that excelled in some warrior skills, didn't use restoration magic, and just relied on potions for being healed? I would have perks in speechcraft that would help bring costs down so that I could better afford healing potions and resist shock/fire/frost potions. I like the idea of a "restoration knight", but as someone pointed out, I'd have to raise magicka, health, and stamina, and I don't know if I want to worry about raising all three enough. Now if I just bring stamina up several notches and then pump many points into health, I could create a pretty good tank. Maybe I should just create a pure warrior character instead of trying to throw magic into the mix. Throw in some lockpicking perks so that I can get more gold and more rare and special loot in chests in caves and dungeons (via two certain perks). Also, I will use this mod: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/18919 It has these perks: Linguist (60/90, Allure) - Shout cooldowns are 15% shorter. Has two ranks, letting you reduce shout cooldowns by 30% if you take both. This will stack with an amulet and blessing of Talos for a 70% potential cooldown reduction. Orator (75, Linguist) - All shouts are 30% stronger. This increases both duration and magnitude of all shouts by 30%. Some shouts have both and will benefit from both parts. As you can see, they help you by giving bonuses to your shout abilities. This would also help me in combat. What do you guys think of this refocused character? Would it be better to go with this new character build rather than try to mix warrior with healer?
  12. I do things that are different, but are like "self imposed rules" of some sort. I do things to add to immersion sometimes. If I use a physical bow, I use a little trick that makes more than one weapon showing on the character. So I might have a shield in one hand, a one handed weapon on a hilt, and then the quiver with arrows equipped and then the bow on the character's back. I don't like them pulling a huge bow out of nowhere. I know, it gets unrealistic when you are carrying around 100+ potions and you carry around loot like armors and dragon bones, but I like to try and have the weapons I use be visible. Sometimes, I'll opt for the DSpSoB mod (it puts shields on your back), and then I'll use a bound bow. I use these two mods in that case: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/17775 and http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/11476#content See the downloads section of the second one. Allows for different bound bows other than the Daedric one (like bound Dwarven Bow, bound Elven Bow, bound Hunting Bow, etc.). Also, to add to immersion, I use the Basic Human Needs mod that requires your character to eat, drink, and sleep. What I'll do is that when I'm going to have a meal, I take a seat somewhere, remove the helmet, and then will drink two bottles of water or a bottle or water and some mead/wine/ale, and I'll eat what seems like a meal (for example, two rabbit haunches, a tomato, and some bread). If I'm out in the wilderness or in a dungeon and I need to eat, I'll just eat a small amount to satisfy the hunger, and usually will just do it standing up (with this mod, being hungry and thirsty and tired gives penalties to your stats). I carry around a sleeping bag. If I need to sleep away from a home or inn, I'll find shelter of some sort (a cave or dungeon, or something), and set up the sleeping bag and sleep. Usually, I make efforts to keep my character rested. They sleep everyday. If they will need sleep soon and I'm about to go on an adventure, I will sleep at a home or inn; get sleep somehow, and then go adventuring/set off on a quest.
  13. Okay. Good advice. How do I play in offline mode? Do I have to select it every time I wanna play, or select it once and it stays like that?
  14. The progress I made was from about January 1st to about January 25th (I played most of the days in between those days). I made it to level 28 in that time. It wasn't a huge amount of progress, but it was a good amount of progress. I'll wait to see if I can get some more input on this, but I may start a new game with a similar character. With this character, I may change things up a little, I may change things up more than a little.
  15. Your GPU is absolutely one of the best available for purchase right now. What do you have for RAM and a CPU? Also, Radeon HD 7000 cards are having some graphics drivers issues with Skyrim right now. Make sure to update your graphics drivers to this beta. Reportedly, it works out the issues. http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/AMDCatalyst132BetaDriver.aspx Thank a lot, will do. CPU- AMD FX-8350 4.00 GHz Eight-Core AM3+ CPU 8MB L2 Cache RAM- 32GB (8GBx4) DDR3/1600MHz Dual Channel Memory Is that good? I know the RAM is, but I dont know about the CPU The RAM will be underutilized. It is really 32 GB of RAM? Anyway, that kind of RAM isn't needed for most things. It isn't needed for PC gaming. I have a computer with 8 GB of RAM. I got my computer last fall and was thinking of getting 16 GB of RAM, but people told me that it just isn't needed for PC gaming and general PC use. No games use 8 GB of RAM, I believe. Skyrim only utilizes 4 GB of RAM. About your CPU, it'll do great with Skyrim. It is more than you need to run it at max. Certain Intel CPUs are the best on the market, but your CPU has 4 GHz per core, so it'll run Skyrim like a champ. It seems like that AMD CPU is a really good AMD CPU. Skyrim will only utilize 4 cores, but some day not too long from now games will start to utilize even more cores, I'm sure. Your specs will have your computer going strong for 2 or so years, and you could stretch the usage of your computer for a good number of years. You could stretch those specs for PC gaming for, let's say, 4 years, and 4 years later PC gaming on it would probably be okay. What you wanna do if you really get into PC gaming is that you'll want to do a big upgrade about every 2 to 3 years, or upgrade certain parts here and there. Your PC is in the top of the line range, though. Your PC will run Skyrim great, for sure. All settings as high as can be and at 60 fps. You could run enbs, too, which enhance the graphical quality. What you'll wanna do is monitor the temps of your components while playing. Get HWMonitor and open the program and run it while you play PC games. Find out what are the safe temperatures for your GPU and CPU, as well, so that you know what numbers to look out for. http://download.cnet.com/HWMonitor/3000-2094_4-10793486.html?tag=mncol;1 Get Fraps. It'll show your frames per second. You don't have to use fraps every time you play, of course. You just run it while playing PC games to see what your fps is like, so you don't gotta use it every time you play. You can use it when you use graphical enhancement mods, too. http://www.fraps.com/

  17. It's fine if you are using exactly the same mods and exactly the same scripts, but it also depends on why you did a reinstall of the game to begin with. If the point was to clean out script files that may have been left behind when you uninstalled some mods, that junk is already baked into your save game so you might as well start a new game (because otherwise, you'll just experience the same issue you had before with the same save games). Well, I had an issue that I was trying to figure out (I didn't know what kind of problem it was), and it just turned out to be an issue with my graphics drivers. So you are saying that if I just install all the same mods and copy/paste my saves into the right folder, I should be able to pick things up again just fine?
  18. I was trying to solve some technical issues recently. I backed up my saves, but I did a complete reinstall of Skyrim. I uninstalled all mods, uninstalled Skyrim, and then deleted my Skyrim folder in Steamapps and deleted my Skyrim folder in My Games. I reinstalled the game and I was going to just install my mods again and then copy/paste my saves into the saves folder and pick back up my game, but...someone said some things to me in another thread indicating that I shouldn't uninstall all my mods. I have a feeling I screwed things up. Someone said something about how if you remove all mods and then plug them back in, the game will have missing scripts from those mods (scripts that formed from when I was playing my character). So...is this true? Would this lead to issues with mods/issues all around? Can I salvage my save files, or should I start a new game? My character was up to level 28. Will I have to cut my loses and start anew?
  19. If I went that route, I'd need some mods for wards. One that makes them more effective against melee attacks, and one that has them eat up less magicka. If I just use a shield, I was thinking that, when in combat, when I need to use a healing spell, I could just put the spell in the right hand, so that I could keep the shield equipped for defense.
  20. I was thinking of only raising stamina to 150. I won't raise magicka that much. With the mod that allows you to get enchanted items and apparel for a price (from court wizards), I could raise magicka and stamina up some notches and then get fortify magicka and fortify stamina items and apparel, and then just pump most points into health. I also like to play with a mod that allows for more than one ring and more than one pendant. It allows for way more than one of each, but for the sake of not being so cheap, I only go for up to 4 or 5 rings, and only 4 pendants. It helps with immersion, too. You can only wear so many rings, and you can only wear so many pendants. In fact, I should look into modifying the mod with the CK, and changing the numbers (for how many rings and how many pendants you can wear) from 100+ to much lower numbers. But this is off topic. :P Does power bash eat up a lot of stamina? Maybe I can do without power bash.
  21. EDIT: Changed character build, see post # 8. I have a character I'm planning. I call the character build a "restoration knight". They will have the highest proficiencies in Heavy Armor, One-handed, Restoration magic, and Block. Here is how I plan to have the character by level 50. http://skyrimcalculator.com/252712 I'm going to play as a female Nord. For heavy armor, I will get them steel armor as soon as I can. Regular steel helmet, steel Nordic armor, steel Nordic gauntlets, steel cuffed boots, and a steel buckler (from a mod). I'll work my way up to steel plate armor (might opt for a heavy helmet that matches steel plate armor that allows you to see her face, I prefer that). She'll use swords and maces (switch it up between the two, mostly for fun). I'll have her use steel swords and I'll get her a skyforge steel sword as soon as I can. I'll get her a Dwarven mace as soon as I can and I'll get her a Dwarven bow as soon as I can. I'll use a mod that makes Dwarven weapons grey metal, so they will match the steel armors. I'll probably just use steel arrows. I don't need many perks in smithing. I'll use a mod that will allow blacksmiths to improve your weapons and armor for a price. I won't have to pump that much points into raising my magicka, either, as that same mod allows court wizards to enchant items and apparel for you for a price, so I can pay for some fortify magicka items and apparel. I want perks in lockpicking because, for one, it gives the character some more variety and makes them more interesting, and two, I want two lockpicking perks, one which allows you to get more gold in chests, and one that gives you a higher chance of getting special treasure in chests (like enchanted items and apparel, gemstones, etc.). I really want those perks so that my character could have more money. My character would have no ways to make a ton of money easily, but I'd like to be able to have some money, so if I go on adventures often, then these two perks will help her have more money, with more gold from chests, and better items which she can sell for good and decent prices. Heavy armor makes you slow, so I will activate the steed stone early on in her game, and I'll eventually get the perk 'conditioning' in the heavy armor skill tree. What do you guys think of this character build? Now, should she fight for the stormcloaks or imperials? She is a nord, but I think she sounds like someone that would want to support the empire when it comes to Skyrim, in hopes that the empire can someday thwart the Aldmeri Dominion and Thalmor (both of which she hates). What do you guys think? I just thought of this, maybe I won't make her a Nord. I might go for a Breton or Imperial instead. I'll have to look into this. I'd like your inputs on this, as well.
  22. Hello. I was hoping someone would take my mod request to make the perk Conditioning (from the Heavy Armor skill tree) more accessible to players. Here you can find the Heavy Armor skill tree for reference: http://skyrimcalculator.com/ The Heavy Armor skill tree looks like a 'V'. The conditioning perk is the third perk on the left side of the 'V', as you can see. My idea to make it more accessible is to make it the first perk on that side of the 'V'. Also, lower the required skill level from 70 to 50 instead. Make Fists of Steel the second perk on that path, and make Cushioned the third perk on that path. Now here is the thing, you'll have to change the required skill levels for Fists of Steel and Cushioned. Their required skill levels are 30 and 50, respectively. If we are to set Conditioning to level 50, maybe we could set both Fists of Steel and Cushioning to 50, as well. I just have a question; would setting three perks in a row to the same required skill level create buginess? I'm just wondering if it is hard coded so that perk progression on skill trees needs to have progression in the required levels, too. Does that make sense? Do people understand why I think maybe setting all three perks to skill level 50 might lead to problems? I doubt it will, but I figured I'd ask. I will be very appreciative if someone makes this mod.
  23. I'm having the same problems. I have a Radeon HD 7950. I'm going to try the new Catalyst beta. Here is my thread reporting the same problems: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/893030-the-screen-has-glitchy-imagery-sometimes/ If you read the OP, it sounds like the same problems. I have a question. These glitchy graphics don't happen to me all that much and I can bear with them for awhile. Eventually there will be better drivers (if that beta doesn't solve this). But can I play Skyrim with these problems? Are these issues harmless? Or are they harmful in any way (to my computer system, or to the drivers themselves)? Also, they aren't harmful to Skyrim save files, are they? If I decided to play Skyrim with these problems for awhile, do I have to worry about corrupt saves from them?
  24. Are you sure I'll need a new power supply unit? I have a really good model from a really good brand for my PSU, and I got a unit that is something like a 850 watt PSU. A Geforce 660 Ti should use more watts than my current card, but not by all that much, and my PSU will be able to handle it. I have a 256 GB Samsung SSD. I don't put games on it, though. I just hear it isn't worth. People say it'll only make load times really fast. Other than that, no performance gains for the games themselves, people say. Edit: I just looked it up. The Geforce 660 Ti actually has a lower max power draw than my current card (150 W vs. 200 W).
  25. I have given kudos to Georgiegril, for she has been helping me out, and I have given kudos to gamefever. Gamefever, thanks for linking to that thread. It seems like it is a graphics driver issue. Here is something I posted somewhere else, I wanted to post it here: So...I probably screwed things up. I uninstalled mods and did a total clean slate, fresh reinstall. I probably shouldn't try to salvage my current game. I have been planning a character build in case I had to start from the beginning again, and I'm kind of eager to actualize that character build, heh. Two things; 1) Would this artifacting be something to be concerned about, or is it harmless? I'm only concerned about it because I'm worried about the problem leading to other problems, but if it is harmless, the problem ain't that bad, because I don't mind this artifacting all that much. It isn't that much of a bother. 2) This is being serious, should I just invest in an Nvidia card? I like AMD cards, but I've heard about the graphics drivers problems, and now I'm experiencing it (this is probably a drivers problem). I have the money to get a Geforce 660 Ti. I put aside some money for a Wii U, but really, I can wait until later in the year to get one, and I'm thinking about getting a Geforce 660 Ti, as I hear Nvidia driver support is definitely superior to AMDs.
