  1. This is what I would do with your system Buy an closed cooling system and overclock the CPU or waste money on a 990X. Get 24GB of ram because it's cheap, it doesn't need to be rated fast, just something that works with your overclock. Maybe buy an AMD 6690 but probably just keep the 580 for now. Get faster hdds. Get at least 1 SSD like a small vertex2/3 for games. Vraptors or short stroked 3TB drives. If the PSU is browning out then get a new one. Skip the case, it doesn't make the computer run faster. [edit] +probably just keep the 580, -raid vraptors
  2. I've seen hash tags used for twitter and channel names in IRC chat.
  3. Ya, just relax a bit and try not to have any expectations about the game. The casting doesn't require hotkeying each time. When you've selected a spell you can just keep hitting your cast button over and over. This is how you can build up experience with a spell. You can refer to the manual for more info. For where to go, just walk around enjoy and look at your compass/map to see if there is a way point. Look at your quests screen to see where you should go next. You can read the manual to find out more info on it but it shouldn't be necessary.
  4. Why I love being single: I have *a lot* more money to spend I can selfishly only think about what I want to do I can meet new people and date whenever I want I can travel anywhere I want for as long as I want No one nags me I can sleep when I want I can play games when I want I can put my stuff where ever I want I can buy things I want I don't have to explain where I went or why I did something Why I love being in a relationship: Having someone I can trust more than my friends Being able to be 'me' and be accepted 90% Regular mating I don't have to do my laundry I have someone to cook for I have someone to buy gifts for I can share all my excitements with someone I have someone to endlessly harass I have someone who'll sacrifice time and energy for me Having a plutonic relationship with my best friend is better than having a relationship with a woman from my perspective because I get all the benefits of being single and most of the benefits of being in a relationship except regular mating, having someone do my laundry and someone I can trust more than my friends. At some point I become best friends with my girlfriends but I still lose all the benefits of being single. For some guys it's nice to have a life of dating (refer to random celebrities for this one) and for some it's nice to have a life with a woman. Each to their own.
  5. Is there anything that restricts what sort of RAM you can use besides sockets? Ya, sometimes there are compatibility probs, go here to see the compatible memory modules for your board. Just because a module isn't in that list, it doesn't guarantee it isn't compatible, it's just showing which ones they know are compatible. Is moving the machine to it's new housing somethign I, a total layperson could do at home Ya, it's totally something you can do at home. I've stepped my sister and some kids thru it before so just be take care (google it) and if you have to force something to connect it, chances are you're doing it wrong. will a 1000W simply go into a machine built for a 720W(with a bigger case ofcourse) or does it need rewiring? Yes, it'll swap straight out because dimensions and screw locations are standard unless you have a proprietary case design which you probably don't. I have an EX-58 MB, .. Is that still workable? or should I think about replacing. Keep your board unless it's somehow holding you back. If you don't need SATA 6Gbs, USB 3 or more pci-e slots or to switch CPU types then you're good. And finaly, when it comes time to replace the MB, is it better to replace the motherboard, or the whole machine with a new rig from the ground up? Just calculate the cost + energy to upgrade your components vs. the cost to purchase a whole new machine. With upgrading you may not have to buy a new hard drive, sound card, video card, ram, blu-ray, case, power supply, keyboard, mouse and that can save you money.
  6. These days you see boards which support both SLI and Crossfire like the M5A99X but in the olden days boards that supported SLI or Crossfire only had one of the technologies on them so it's normal to see boards like the M5A97 which are Crossfire only.
  7. That was the longest single sentence I have ever seen EVAR!
  8. It is because 'suspending disbelief' is important to this type of gaming. When something is added that breaks the credibility of the world then it pulls the player out his/her imagined reality and tells them that they're playing a game. I guess some people like spaceships and aliens in their Post Nulcear Simulations and others don't. Personally that was the only DLC I didn't buy because it didn't fit in to what I was looking for from the game.
  9. I haven't lived in the UK but I've lived in 6 different countries and I agree with Dark0ne that grass is always greener... If I could choose any country in the world to live it would be Canada because it's like the US except with health care and people are less stabby and shooty so you get a great quality of life and can buy all the new products and services that you see online without bankrupting yourself.
  10. Here is a CGI fly thru of the memorial at ground zero: I assume the two square holes in the ground at the memorial are where the towers sat. If it wasn't for that representation I wouldn't like the memorial's design at all. I'd like to see it much larger and with more cow bell. I haven't made my pilgrimage there yet so I don't know if I'll think it's great in person.
  11. I theorize it's because they have really good imaginations so if something like a blue Yoshi runs across the mojave in front of them it just makes sense. Some of us need realism to suspend disbelief and others may be not so much.
  12. sounds like a plan Opt in for the html5 player beta. You can find the opt in page via google. Last I used it, it didn't support many videos but it should support more now.
  13. A nice feature would be having the ability to load approved popular mod stacks (admin managed) from the site and auto downloading new mods if subscribed to the mod stack. I can do all the coding on the server side without trouble but the c/c++ app coding would me longer because my kungfu isn't fresh. Also having the ability to apply approved load orders from the site to your mod stack would be nice, that would solve the problem of everyone asking about load orders. This can all be done with http calls so there won't be a need for any magical network coding.
  14. This wouldn't be a big deal unless you were modding a lot and forgot about some hard work. One way to be safe would be to have it tell the user that the current mod being un-installed has been changed. It could be something like this: on mod install record checksums (you're probably doing this anyways) and on uninstall compare the files against them, if files were changed then pop up a child window showing detected changes with a list of changed files + dates (window with scrolling). Add an Ok button and a "Save Changed File to Zip" button that zips them to NV's root folder name something like [mod_name]_date.zip Just a thought for the dev backlog [edit] Wait, this is open source right? Maybe if I get time I can add it in later.
  15. That used to happen to me before I switched to the 4gb workaround. Maybe check if that solves it.
  16. With steam I feel like I'm guilty for buying my game and being punished by the software company when I want to use it. Unfortunately Steam offers a decent service for the companies who want to sell their wares, push out updates easily and reduce how many copies get pirated. I'm of two minds when it comes to pirating. On one hand I believe theft is wrong and we must to support our devs 100%, on the other hand I don't agree with denying people the enjoyment of games just because they are poor to afford them. It would be nice if there was a way to let poor people have games for free but make everyone who has money pay for them. Leave no child behind!
  17. The mod pages from the old one were easier to use than the current ones but other than that I think its fine. The only thing that bothers me is the tabs on mod pages because they don't have text, instead they have low contract icons. Is there anything particular with the new design that doesn't work for you?
  18. Let me guess, the images show when you look at this post but they only don't show when we look at it. You should upload them somewhere for us to see then link to those rather than the ones on your c:
  19. That could be it. It could be related to the shader the game is using and what your card supports. In the Data/Shaders/ folder you'll see a whole bunch of shaders. The game checks your graphics card and determines which shader to use. I can't remember where it stores that but I believe it's in one of the .ini files. If your card uses Shader 14 but you want to use 19 because it has a bigger feature set then you renamed 19 to 14. If your card doesn't support something then it may not work or maybe the game won't start until you choose a diff shader, I don't know. I'm not sure if that would fix your situation but it might be. Sometimes changing your shader gives you better visuals. I remember doing it with Oblivion in the old days and when I look in my shader folder now it looks like I swapped 17 and 19. You might want to read up about it.
  20. I remember a history of HDR not being available in some games if Anti-aliasing was enabled. I believe nvidia drivers had a workaround to easily allow both AA and HDR at the same time. I recall the method was to turn off AA in game and choose HDR then force AA in the nvidia panel. At any rate, check if it's because you have AA on in the game.
