  1. Perhaps the dislike of one's self in the mirror might be the only redeeming grace.
  2. The liberty to redefine Liberty or the Liberty to redefine liberty?
  3. I ban Pagafyr for being so good at this game. ;D
  4. Winston, like many other famous politicians, was quite the political chameleon throughout his life and career, flipping from one perspective to the other, being contradictory, and keeping people guessing a lot of the time. A very useful tactic, especially when followed by a knowing wink and a *nudge nudge*... Thing is pragmatism, and often the inconveniences and matter of fact of life, crosses political and party lines very often. It tis' the fool who does not look up to see what is around them. However, perhaps 'applicable pragmatism' can only really be effective with a certain amount of 'populism' - or idealism i.e. getting people to do what you want them to do for less... Of course this can prove to be a barrel of firecrackers that can quickly become too hot to handle if it veers to far in either direction.
  5. Yeah alien invasion would be some serious stuff... but I'm sure we'd at least stop arguing and give it our best shot. But before and hopefully in spite of that ever happening there are a few things we could galvanise around already. That was what Globalisation™ was supposed to be trying to do, but that has all gone toxic now despite probably having some noble ideas originally - well I at least hope so. The problems are still there even if the plan has kinda changed - not saying it didn't need to either. Question is will we be able to replace it with something better before the wolves are eventually at the door. I think the greatest most unifying 'mission' for mankind is surviving the combination of artificial intelligence and possibility of a nuclear war. After that it will the depletion of resources, disease, famine, and yeah... climate change. I think personally we have all the reason we need to pull our finger out and get it together. But I agree that some 'kick up the ass' would be best to be something everyone can relate to despite language, geography or culture barriers. Maybe a close shave with an asteroid or something... or a mission to colonise the Moon and Mars... or maybe a self-sufficient re-usable green revolution. C'mon peoples, let's make the world great again!
  6. Considering if America was not the great country it still is (and has potential to stay), the world would surely be at least as bad a place if not worse. The history of civilisation is an ugly one. My point is really that 'you don't realise what you have till you don't have it any more' and America does have quite a unique position, it just needs to realise it and not let it go to its head (the difficult part). I do wonder if we got over ourselves and all put as much effort into making things work as we do planning ways to destroy each other, we might actually survive as a species. I think we all like to think we are in charge and control though, so I guess nothing like that will happen till we all find a common purpose perhaps through some kind of real-time mass communication. Well maybe at this point it is simply optimism or bust!
  7. It's beyond stupid imo to believe that anyone goes into politics for the public good. According to history public politics is the final refuge for people with egos too large to be contained by the private sector. It's been true at least since the Roman Empire and probably always has been. So can we please stop with the claims and delusions that some politicians are "in it for the little guy". Nobody is, and the sole difference between politicians is in the groups of special interests they represent. Just to reemphasise my intended sarcasm  I am equally cynical (which is perhaps just a weathered nervous reaction to uncertainty), but I do believe there are good people in all arenas, but unfortunately power does eventually corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
  8. It is no doubt The Donald is wealthy, but only so far as Wall Street, The Crown, The Vatican, The Russians et al. will allow. He is likely a pawn as much as he is a 'self-made man of the people'. Hmmm... I dunno, I try convince myself that these guys (Farage, Trump, Le Pen et al.) are out there sticking it one for 'the little guy', but I have to admit I get my doubts. It is all perhaps a distraction, while the pieces are still moving.
  9. I ban myself for ~not~ playing this game. ;D
  10. The confusion and often irrationality produced by such events is beneficial to the establishment, which is still very much established. The house always wins and the rest is just smoke and mirrors. The phrases 'be careful what you wish for' and 'the truth will hurt' also spring to mind. As much as there may be opportunities, those windows will close just a quickly as they seemingly appeared. Speaking of which is the influence of mass media... and specifically on the topic of a wall, you don't necessarily need concrete to divide and alienate people.
  11. Confirmed! How amazing! Gonna download those mods pronto!
  12. An update. Thankfully NVAC now fixes this issue through FOSE. No need for the workaround anymore. https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/4962915-proper-windows-10-crash-fix/
  13. Posted and liked/re-blogged other people's posts on Twitter and Facebook. https://twitter.com/sunshinenbrick/status/793498288532099072 It all seems to be overpowered by commercial rubbish though
  14. How disappointing it was to think 'phew, the site is still up for another couple of weeks or so', only to go and click on a project and get nothing. Without any warning that feels very cruel and disrespectful to say the least. What is the final status in terms of file backups? Do we know we have at least one copy of all the mods inventoried? I was given the go ahead to upload a couple and forgot to download them at the time (I know... really stupid and I'm very sorry ). Guess I was assuming there would be a '7 days left' or something... I assume trying to contact anyone would be futile?
  15. Hey, Sorry, it goes in your Fallout directory where the game exe is. Under Program Files most likely, or your Steamapps/common folder if you have the game on Steam. Don't forget to change sD3DDevice="NVIDIA Geforce 8800 GS" in FalloutPrefs.ini. If you use ENB, Sweet FX, or any other DLL then you'll need to follow the rename and proxy procedure in my first post. There may very well be but the DLL has to be specifically 'designed' to do so. What that means is if you want to use d3d9injFX.dll it has to be made to hook another DLL after it. Doing so would involve editing the library itself... As for working on some (possible) solutions to your issues: 1. When using SweetFX with 'external dll' option you MUST NOT delete the '//' at the beginning of that line. If you do this will cause instant CTD. It has to look like this: // external_d3d9_wrapper = d3d9_boost.dll I know this seems counter-intuitive but that is just how that one value works. There is a note just above stating similar and I can confirm this is 'intended' behaviour. 2. You can use Sweet FX to enable FXAA instead of an FXAA injector. They are essentially the same thing, however it is true that they can be configured very differently and can look very different. You can tweak some of these settings in SweetFX_Settings file itself. 3. To use ENB, SweetFX and FXAAinjFX then you could try use the ENB Injector Version (Wrapper and Injector are included in most enb downloads). It uses an enbseries.dll instead so you may have some luck using the other two DLLs, but I have not tested this so I don't know if it will work. Make sure to use the enb injector exe included in the download - put it in the game folder and run it before starting the game up. Other than that I am not sure what else one can do. I have been in exactly the same situation myself and using ENB and SweetFX anti aliasing was the way I ended up going. As a sidenote, if Microsoft and Nvidia solve the issues their end and newer drivers work, then this whole headache will become unnecessary anyway! Here's hoping! Also see what RoyBatterian said above and the progress Queued is making on his New Vegas Anti Crash mod. ~ Sunshine
  16. Thanks for the heads up on that. Very interesting read about it being related to Windows Driver Development and it begs the question whether this could be MS slowly raising the drawbridge? I'll be up for testing the fix, where exactly does one 'sign up'? :)
  17. Just a small update. Sorry I've been uber busy lately as the end of term is coming up and have a lot of work coming my way. I have received a few responses from authors, roughly 50/50 as others have said. Most of the responses have also given the go ahead to upload onto the Nexus under BCN terms and conditions. I will most likely do this myself when I can find the opportunity to do so. For the most part they seem to be 'experimental' or 'first-time' projects although they all work and seem pretty useful from at least a resources point of view. I will put aside some time in the next couple of days to try get through a few more pages, however if there are any other more pressing things to do then I am happy to do what is needed so long as I know how  Glad to be part of the team and will be willing to help do whatever need be even after the apparent deadline... btw have we had 'official' confirmation that everything will actually go dark after the 25th?
  18. Just noticed this which is very wrong! It should be: d3d9sfx.dll Fixed original post as well! Sorry about that..
  19. What do you think should be skipped ? It's not like skipping 1 or 2 cells in each row will save much time. Copy paste helps make it take close to no time already. What takes time is searching for external hosts and contacting mod authors, which we can't really skip, since it's the whole point of the project^^. Aye, agreed. Hmm.. I did say I may not know what I was talking about ;) It was more a suggestion of looking at the project as a whole and seeing where something might be streamlined or delegate certain task or something... Like I said, everyone seems to have done such an amazing amount of work already and I just wanted to give some support and encouragement to people's efforts. :)
  20. Just to give a little support and ideas if it helps at all. I think we have all done super-well so far and should be proud that what has been done has at all in this dark and cynical world. In all honesty there is A LOT of data there and everyone that has contributed has done an amazing job so far. My point is that as time may be very limited, and considering the amount of stuff to cover plus the extensive attention to detail already given, maybe we need to slimline the number of fields/pages/values that we are collecting. I suppose the main things are the individual game pages, the contacted authors list and maybe a final basic list to cross reference and check as much as we can what has been done. I think it might be best to just concentrate on the mod pages and get the 'big' stuff done then see how much time left to 'tidy up' the edges and gaps. Now of course I am just a 'little guy' here and perhaps have absolutely no idea what I am talking about or saying right now, but I thought I may just try and help with some possible suggestions. Hope y'all are okay and that we can find solutions to these problems. I am hoping to set aside a couple of evenings to crack on with a few pages, reply to some authors and upload some mods (although latter may have to wait). Good work everybody  ~ Sunshine
  21. Same here! I spent two days trying to fix this. Finally found a solution although a slightly different tactic. I used the old Performance Booster dll by nix9862 and this allows the game to run! Also with the newest Nvidia driver installed so less hassle and won't mean other games suffer. Oh, and you will need to change your sD3DDevice to "NVIDIA Geforce 8800 GS" in your FalloutPrefs.ini! I cannot guarantee this will work but it is worth a try! Damn you Microsoft!! *dramatically shakes fist* Another method although I haven't tried it yet is if you use ENB there maybe an option in enblocal/enbseries to 'force fake video card', this might work. Additionally and with regard to using ENB and the above Performace Booster you will need to use the Proxy functions in enblocal/enbseries to direct it to the second dll - rename it d3d9_boost.dll for example. Furthermore if you use SweetFX as well then you will need Boulotaur2024 Sweet FX Injector and direct enb to this first - rename it d3d9sfx.dll or something. Then open SweetFX_settings and at the bottom add the third dll (d3d9_boost.dll) to link them all together! Phew! Last thing is that there might be other reasons the game stopped working because Microsoft erm... 'added' features *cough*. Before I got it to work this way I did the following which may help: - Updated DirectX Redistributable including June 2010 SDK (you will likely have to uninstall Visual C++ 2010 first, but we are installing them again below) - Updated all Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable files. Search them all by year in google and install them even if the filenames are the same - Updated everything to do with .NET Frameworks - Installed Windows 10 SDK (which includes updates to DirectX SDK beyond the above version) That with the above solution should hopefully help if anyone runs into this horrible mess! Cheers peeps
  22. Cool beans. I guess people are still downloading stuff and the database is updating accordingly? Glad you're back (tomorrow) and hope you had a good rest after all that work. Same goes to everyone, an amazing amount of work and effort!
  23. Erm... maybe I am just being a dunce (again) but the page order seems to have changed for me while I was doing a couple of pages... I am ordering mods by 'Everyone' and 'Downloads' and leaving status as 'blank'. It's confusing the hell out of me!
  24. Expressing an opinion or challenging others are two things safe spaces stop people doing. This all depends on how you define 'safe'. Who is safe, and from what? Safe to express, or safe from expression? Analysing it further one could argue, "well there is no such thing as 'safe'", but that is wholly relative. For example, as children (and as adults too!) we all learn inside walled gardens, some more walled then others, which allows us to make mistakes and learn from them so as to become stronger. You can have too much 'parenting' and end up utterly useless of course, but likewise you could be an orphan on the streets of Aleppo and learn more in a week than some do in their whole lives, if you are lucky enough to even survive that is. Extrapolating this to our current scenario we have a (likely) superficial garden where people can feel 'safe' to express themselves. While in all reality they are probably even less safe in this place because now they have automatically become a target! Deeply ironic, but such is the paradox within the debate. Perhaps there are those who don't feel the need for a 'safe space' (although most of us have them in the form of a house, work, family, friends, or whatever), but perhaps it is likely because the spaces they occupy already allow them to be, by and large, that which they feel comfortable being. It follows that they will naturally start to feel 'unsafe' if those spaces begin to become places where they no longer feel as comfortable. It's largely down to perspective and such efforts can easily backfire as much as they can become the topic of conversation.
